Tonight, we will be testing out some matchmaking methodology for balancing casual matches around players earned XP.

Please bare with us as we work out any unforeseen consequences from this change.

  • Fixed an issue causing default bindings of new features to be unbound
  • Fixed an issue where on punting/field goals, an invisible wall prevented defense from attempting to block the ball.

Our latest patch changes bring more precision to how catching the ball is measured, as well as many improvements to clock management. Let the toe tapping begin!

[h2]Gameplay Changes[/h2]
  • Catching is now measured where your feet land rather than where you were in the air when you caught the ball.

[h3]Clock Fixes[/h3]
  • Clock should now run properly during a punt.
  • Clock no longer runs during extra point attempts.
  • Clock now correctly runs when the ball is touched on kickoffs.
  • Clock no longer runs during timeouts erroneously anymore.
  • Fixed a bug where extra plays occurred after time has run out.
  • Added a 1 minute warning to the game before the end of half time and the end of the game.

[h3]Custom Lobby Options[/h3]
  • Added ability to free roam on defensive formations(available in custom lobbies only, space bar to activate).
  • Added pause functionality (pause key by default)
  • Added competitive ruleset which will have unique rules for league play.
  • Added competitive rule: Intentional Grounding.


[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]
  • Spectators now get play feed notifications.
  • Allowed all chat to be viewable by spectators.
  • Showed end game screen to spectators.
  • Fixed spectator inverted mouse bug.
  • Fixed bug where the chat would send blank messages.
  • Fixed issue where camera would go underground when tackled.
  • Fixed bug with incorrect position names in formations

GridIron's 2020 in Review

It's the end of the year, and that means it's time to crunch numbers and take a look at all of the awesome stats our player base has achieved.


[h2]GridIron is played by 127,546 players.[/h2]
Since our launch in July of 2020, our player base has queued for a game of GridIron over 1 million times and each player played GridIron for an average of 5 hours.

3,008,501 passes have been thrown.

1,221,578 passes have been caught.

612,041 passes have been intercepted.


[h2]All of those passes have combined for 28,401,121 passing yards.[/h2]

The combined offensive might of all of our GridIron players has resulted in a whopping 28,419,963 receiving yards and 496,156 rushing yards.

The ball has been punted 13,676 times and 29,729 field goals have been scored.


[h2]In 2020, you guys scored 2,419,038 Points.[/h2]
You did it through the air and on the ground.
You scored 338,614 receiving touchdowns and 64,559 rushing touchdowns.

Quarterbacks have been sacked 1,317,384 times and players have made open field tackles 2,696,209 times.

Patch 1.0.3.17

Patch 1.0.1.17 introduces many new changes to help give the competitive community in the game some new options.

[h2]Gameplay Changes[/h2]
  • Added more time after a touchdown to allow players to taunt/emote to the other team after scoring.
  • Added more time after interceptions, tackles, and sacks to taunt/emote to the person you just destroyed.
  • Added a catching animation for when the ball is caught.
  • Added more formation options on offense and defense.
  • Added a handoff animation for when a QB wants to hand the ball off.


[h2]General Changes[/h2]
  • Allow players to reconnect to custom matches if they disconnect mid-game.
  • Gingerbread Shield is now holographic.


[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed a bug causing timeouts to not always stop the time properly
  • Fixed a bug where calling a timeout during a punt or field goal would cause the ball to remain on the field, not allowing the possessing team to touch it, but allowing the defense to touch the ball and cause it to turnover.
  • Fixed a bug causing input issues such as shields to get stuck or sprinting to not always work.
  • Fixed a bug causing "playername" to display for backfilling players and vivox to not work for people backfilling into games.
  • Fixed a bug where ranks were not showing correctly in the locker room badges, and players were not being allowed to achieve ranks in the Grandmaster Elite bracket.
