Shadow of the Tomb Raider News

If you were thinking about buying Shadow of the Tomb Raider any time soon, don't, because it's free on the Epic Games Store next week.

The most recent and probable final entry in the Square Enix published, Eidos-Montreal developed reboot of the series is the next free title to be given away on the Epic Games Store. You'll be able to pick up the game next Thursday, September 1, and you'll have until September 8 to do so.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider isn't the only game being made available for free. Submerged: Hidden Depths will also be free for the same period of time. In Submerged, you'll explore a drowned city with deserted villages inhabited by "enigmatic creatures." There's no combat to be found though, self-described as a third-person "relaxploration" adventure.

Embracer Group has been on a buying spree frankly so large that it's hard to keep up with all the properties that it owns. Back in May it was announced, however, that the company was in the process of acquiring Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal. Former Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett has said she would like Lara Croft to have a touch less father issues in the next game.

Pratchett recently spoke with Eurogamer at this week's BAFTA Games Awards, where she touched on her thoughts on working on the rebooted version of the character, as well as what she hopes to see from Lara Croft in the future. "We had a really fun time evolving her character, so I would like to see probably less father issues," said Pratchett. "And that's coming from me!"

A fairly understandable sentiment, as it would be nice if one of the most recognisable female characters in gaming didn't have to have her character revolve around her father's problems.
