  • Dolch 96 now has [10/10] ammo capacity instead of [10/5]

Developer Note:

The Dolch and its game balance has been troubling us for some time now, we have tried many different solutions during the Early Access period. The dilemma we are facing is that we want to ensure the weapon is portrayed correctly, being one of the most powerful and advanced weapons of its time, firing bullets at velocities unmatched by classic black powder handguns. On the other hand however, we have to find a compromise between pros and cons to ensure it has a balanced spot in the arsenal and is not considered OP. This is not an easy task, but just like with the recent changes to the Uppercut, we feel it's necessary to encourage variety and mix up the meta.

With the changes in this update, we want to clearly position the Dolch as an endgame weapon. It is a powerful weapon and that comes with a price. So, besides increasing its cost (see further below) we are also making it harder to use: On one hand we are drastically increasing its recoil even further, and on the other, we are making it harder to resupply by changing the ammo type from Medium Bullet to Prototype Bullet, which is described as a "Modern Smokeless Powder Pistol Cartridge" that refills from Special ammo packs only, just like the Crossbow and the Nitro Express Rifle. The actual ballistics are identical to how it worked before.

To compensate for these nerfs, we are reverting a previous change that reduced the Dolch's extra ammo to just 5 rounds. This change was originally done in order to reduce the effects of equipping additional medium ammo weapons, just to give extra rounds to the Dolch. With the Dolch effectively having its own ammo type now, we can safely increase the extra ammo back to 10 extra rounds, giving it a full stripper clip reload without complicated extra ammo management.

We hope that the combination of these changes will allow the Dolch to finally find its place in the arsenal, having a solid mix of advantages and disadvantages, making it a rare, but prized weapon to bring into the Bayou. Please tell us what you think!

Hunter
  • Enabled selection of alternative "Gunslinger" control scheme in the options for further testing (default is classic "Hunter" mode)

Developer Note:

With this test update, we are activating a different, optional control scheme called "Gunslinger" for players to experiment with. The game settings menu already had these options listed for the last updates on test server, but players were not able to switch to their control scheme of choice until now.

Since the Early Access launch last year, Hunt has featured controls that have been tailored to its unique gameplay formula, focusing on melee and discouraging players from simple "run and gun" to avoid detection. Noise is an important mechanic in the game that can also work against the player very quickly, if not managed carefully.

However, we also have to recognize that some players that would love to try Hunt out, are discouraged from giving the game a chance because of the controls being different from the games they normally play. With "Gunslinger" we are trying to find a good compromise, giving those players, who simply cannot get behind Hunt's unique controls, a way to still enjoy the game with a more streamlined, classic control scheme.

Players can now choose between these two controls options:

  • “Hunter” is the current control scheme that you are all familiar with and it remains unchanged. By default you will melee attack with any currently equipped weapon and to shoot you have to actively enter the aim state. The focus is on stealth and a careful playstyle, using melee and silent actions until the moment you are ready to take your shot.
  • “Gunslinger” on the other hand features an alternative control scheme that is inspired by classic FPS shooters. By default, Hunters will always be aiming, introducing the possibility to hipfire without having to press a button. In this control scheme Hunters will lower their weapons when sprinting. Entering ADS requires only one button now. Triggering any melee attack will be done with a separate melee attack button that players can bind in the controls options. The usage of tools and consumables is also a bit more accessible, basically aiming with them all the time.

Neither of these options will have a gameplay advantage over the other, as all core movements and player actions are the same, and only provide the player with more choices on how they want to play. They are available for both Keyboard & Mouse and Controller. We would like to hear your feedback on "Gunslinger" and what you think about this option!

Update 1.0 - Patch #2

Version: v1.0 Patch #2
SteambuildID: 4066508
Client patch size: ~550 MB

New Unlock Conditions
  • Weapon variations are now unlocked following an XP-based unlock system, instead of specific kill goals as used for the daily and weekly challenges
  • XP rewards for player kills have been halved to allow for normalized XP earnings across both PvE and PvP for the purpose of weapon variation unlock challenges (i.e. a kill against a player with equal skill is now worth 250 XP instead of 500 XP)

Developer Note:

With this update, we have made a change to how the challenges in the Book of Weapons work, changing to an XP-based system instead of the current specific challenges. We had to use the existing system for our initial test server deployment (which makes sense for daily and weekly challenges, as well as Book of Monsters unlocks) since the new XP system was not available in time. Unfortunately, this has caused some irritation within the community as the unlocks felt very 'grindy' and in some cases forced unwanted playstyles on players.

So, with this patch, earning XP with a weapon (or its variants) fills a bar towards the next unlock. This will make the progression system feel less like a "side quests" and allows players to simply unlock new variants by playing how they like, as long as they are using a weapon from the same unlock category. Of course, the new system is still meant to give a slightly different experience from how it works on Live, but that is intentional. It gives more control to players in choosing what equipment they focus and work on to reach their unlock goals, rather than having everything available automatically with ranking up.

World
  • Improved the spawn locations of Clue Defenders
  • Some minor tweaks and fixes to a number of compounds on both maps

    • Sub-tabs now always reset to the leftmost entry of the main tab, except for the Bounty Hunt and Quickplay sub-tabs

  • Slightly adjusted the size of icons in order to celebrate new unlocks

Update 1.0 - Patch #1

Version: v1.0 Patch#1
SteambuildID: 4047710
Client patch size
: ~ 450MB

Equipment
  • Slightly increased the recoil of the Dolch 96 and its variants
  • Reverted the price of the Dolch 96 back to $490
  • Increase the price of the Dolch 96 Precision to $550
  • Reverted the price of the Caldwell conversion Uppercut back to $275
  • Increased the damage of the frag bomb to make it more reliable against AI (150 up to 200)
Developer Note

Both the Dolch and Uppercut to us are classed as the top-tier sidearm’s that are available in the game. As such, they are often the most used as well as being two of the most powerful in the game. The Uppercut in particular often carries the punch of a “pocket rifle” that makes it the ideal companion with pretty much any other weapon. The Dolch – one of the most advanced and powerful handguns of its time – has the advantage of semi-auto fire paired with a decent range and additional punch from its more modern cartridge. We felt that the pricing difference between these two was a bit off, so while keeping the gameplay changes we rolled out with 1.0, we have reverted the pricing back to make what is currently on live so that we can get a better understanding of any other balance implications. The one exception here is the Dolch, which in general received a nerf to its control.

In general, 1.0 is changing the weapon balance up a bit in a number of ways; from projectile speed to ignoring arms for blocking hits to the body, reduced sway in ADS to wall penetration as well as extra ammo capacity adjustments. In some cases, where a weapon loses one advantage, it potentially can gain an advantage in other areas with these changes. For example, The Sparks now has a lower, more realistic bullet speed that has an impact on using the weapon against moving targets at range, but any torso hits are more likely to inflict the maximum damage, which balances the offset. The reduced sway and increased ammo help the chances of hitting but also allows the weapon to be used with more sidearms other than the Uppercut without running low on long bullets to quickly. There are a number of other examples like this throughout the arsenal that will take some time for players to get used to/relearn how to effectively use their favorite weapons.

UI Improvements
  • Added a option to the traits tab to only filter unlocked abilities.
  • Consumables in-game: added small icons to all fire bottles and syringes to help better identify variants
  • Improved the visuals for the comparative ELO ranking indicator displayed on the death screen (the small arrows)
  • Improvements made to the dirt visualization in the shop/arsenal view.
  • Implemented the correct icons for Legendary weapon and Hunter unlocks into the unlock notification pop-up screen
  • Players will no longer be able to switch store tabs while in options/region select/popup screen
    • Additional stats added to the “Last Match” stats:
      • Total kills
      • Your kills
      • Kill assists
Developer Note:

We received a lot of feedback – both positive and negative – when it comes to the new UI and are continuing to work on improving the usability and overall accessibility of the menu. Thanks to your feedback, we have a better understanding of the remaining issues, which in turn helps us to prioritize our time around the invite-play loop as well as the recruit-equip loop to make these rock solid for the player experience.

We have also identified several issues with the flow in terms of unlocking weapons and are currently working on another update to help make the unlock process a lot more straightforward, with improved menu readability. This should also help with the forced feeling of having to play in a different manner than you are used to, just to unlock challenges.

Please keeps that feedback coming on all UI matters as it has been a big help so far and will ensure we can improve things even further.

Audio
  • First round of improvements made based on community and internal feedback specifically around the death sounds, burning and out of stamina breathing.
Developer Note:

We received a lot of feedback regarding the male voice set and have addressed the pain and death sounds based on this. Both death and pain sounds will be more distinct and easier to read. Burning has also been adjusted accordingly.

We are aware that the old male set had some preferred and somewhat iconic screams that you all became very familiar with, so we are revisiting the voices and working out how to bring them back into the existing and upcoming sets.

World
  • Fixed a number of exploits on both Lawson Delta and Stillwater Bayou that resulted in players being able to access areas that are not supposed to be accessible.

Other Improvements
  • Shrapnel damage from frag grenades no longer benefit from the Bulwark trait
  • Added leather bracers to Legendary Hunter "Carcass Gunrunner" in first-person view

Known Issues

Lobby / UI:
  • An owned but locked Legendary weapon cannot be equipped with a double click on its icon.
  • Dying as the last Hunter in a game and waiting until the sever kicks the player from the match results in the wrong error message being displayed on the mission summary screen.
  • The Inspection screen for a partner stays open after unloading from a match and cannot be closed.
  • Switching between Recruitment sub-tabs (Recruits, Soul Survivors, Legendary Hunters) shows wrong or empty Hunter slots
  • Players are able to have multiple contraband items with different dirtiness levels in the inventory
  • Lobby chat doesn't work.
  • Double-clicking legendary weapons in order to equip them triggers an invalid error message. The Equip button works though.
  • Wrong dirtiness variant might get equipped if player owns more than 2 variants of an item in his inventory.
  • Switching to a different screen and then back to the lobby while being in group that has already readied up removes the ready checkmark from the partner(s).
  • It may happen that underdog bonus is displayed when in a team of 3.
  • Unlock pop-ups from previous missions may trigger when unlocking new equipment.
  • After playing a match with a steam group, the player ends up in “searching for random partner” state, rather than in solo state.
  • Contraband weapons can sometimes not be discarded when they are unequipped.
  • The Trait list for newly hired Hunters might not get displayed correctly after dying in a previous mission.
  • Various issues with sorting items in the shop/arsenal (legendary, price, …)
  • Buying items using double click doesn’t work when the player already owns two or more of the same item.
  • The Icons displayed for unlocked rewards are too big.
  • Trying to buy a trait that is not yet unlocked displays a wrong popup message (Not enough hunter points).
  • The Combat Axe cannot be cleaned at the moment.
  • When starting the game with "ignore window focus" audio setting enabled can lead to sound missing in the menu.

Gameplay:
  • Weapons dropped on the ground can sometimes hover in the air instead, with partially missing models and they cannot be picked up.
  • Outlines for doors/gates are broken
  • Boss damage indicator (in the boss icon) is not working.
  • Spider can get stuck mid-air.
  • Stance and stamina indicators are missing.
  • A burning player can unintentionally set a downed hunter on fire
  • Sometimes own Hunter animations may stop working and players will only see a static weapon model on their screens (does not affect other players).
