Update Notes

Miriam’s Challenges

"Something in this suffering land, brought me to this place…”

The Penitent One has gained a new ally as Miriam from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night crosses over into the land of Cvstodia!
  • A totally new quest in which Miriam, star of Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night, makes an appearance.
  • To be able to return to her world, you must retrieve the crystal shards located at the end of the 5 hidden challenges.

Miriam's questline can be started in New Game, New Game+ and in existing saves.

If you'd like to know the area where you can find Miriam and begin her quest we have a hint for you here: Miriam can be found waiting for you in the Mother of Mothers.

Sacred Sorrows Mode

Boss Rush comes to Blasphemous! Pit the Penitent One against the toughest of foes in an unrelenting onslaught of penance and suffering.
  • Fight against all the Blasphemous bosses in this new “Boss Rush” mode.
  • 5 different unlockable courses, each with 2 difficulty levels.
  • Try to beat your best time and achieve the highest rank.

Please note: In order to unlock and play Sacred Sorrows Mode you must have completed Blasphemous at least once.

Art
  • A new background has been added to the main menu.
  • Various elements of the existing levels have been tweaked.
  • New animated scenes have been added to the game.

Voices
  • New lines have been recorded for Miriam in English and Spanish.
  • New lines have been recorded for Diosdado.

New items
  • A new Prayer has been added.
  • A new Rosary Bead has been added.

Languages
  • Korean language support has been added.
  • Various corrections have been made in several languages.

Misc
  • A new hidden retro area has been included for players to discover.
  • A new rendering mode menu has been added.
  • A new menu has been added for checking your Blasphemous achievements.
  • An alert has been added to the game that informs you when an achievement has been unlocked.
  • Diosdado’s quest conditions have been tweaked.

Technique Update: Air Impulse

Air Impulse is an advanced technique that allows the Penitent One to ascend and gain height after hitting an enemy up to two consecutive times.

Prior to this update the only way this move could be activated was by holding down in mid-air as you struck an enemy. Whilst this worked fine for combat situations, Miriam's challenges introduces new platforming set pieces which require use of this move outside of combat situations. Because of this we've added a second way to activate this technique: Right Trigger + Attack.

This should make it easier to make use of this technique both in and outside of combat, particularly in the content mentioned above. Don't worry if you prefer the original input method though, you can still use that if you'd rather.

We hope you enjoy Blasphemous: Strife & Ruin!

That concludes today's update notes for Strife & Ruin.

We're incredibly happy to bring this awesome crossover with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to you, as well as the rest of the new content! As mentioned this update is totally free to everyone that owns Blasphemous, past, present and future! We can't wait to hear what you think of it - so leave us a comment and let us know!

If you enjoy your time with the new content please feel free to give us a Steam review, it really helps us out and lets us know what you're enjoying about the game.

Sorrowful be the heart.

The Path to Penance

Blasphemous began its pilgrimage on Steam on September 10th, 2019. Many of you raised Mea Culpa for the first time on this date, twisting fate to your will as you challenged and triumphed over the twisted, the corrupted and the zealous.

Since that day, many more of you have swelled the ranks of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow, further building a community around Blasphemous that we are humbled to serve.

As the community continued to grow, we set about working on your feedback around bug fixes, quality of life improvements and more - all of this driven by what we saw being discussed by you, our players.

The Stir of Dawn
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Then, in August of this year we released our first free DLC for Blasphemous, The Stir of Dawn, adding a host of new features including:
  • New Game + (True Torment Mode)
  • New story quests
  • New bosses, prayers and items
  • New ways to play via the Penitence system
  • New executions
  • Visual update and location overhauls
  • Map overhaul
  • More fast travel options

and more...

The Stir of Dawn not only gave us a fantastic opportunity to further build upon Blasphemous with our own ideas, but implement a lot of the great feedback we'd seen from the community around what they'd like to see added / changed about Blasphemous.

The best bit? This DLC was and still is absolutely free to everyone that already owns Blasphemous, or decides to purchase it in the future.

Spanish VO - Honouring the roots of Blasphemous

Some of you may already know this, but The Game Kitchen is a Spanish Developer Team!

As such, when creating Blasphemous we took inspiration from our home country, it's architecture and its history. But, we were missing one key part of our home... Its language.

This was rectified when we released The Stir of Dawn as it came with a full, optional Spanish voice over for all characters in the game.

We were privileged to work with a fantastic and prestigious group of actors, check them out below:

Just like The Stir of Dawn DLC it was apart of, this content came absolutely free to all our players.

Mac & Linux Support

Whilst we worked away on the above content, part of the team were busy creating Mac and Linux versions of Blasphemous for their respective communities here on Steam!

We're pleased to say that in September of this year those versions became feature complete and arrived on Steam with full parity with the Windows version of the game, including with it The Stir of Dawn DLC and all quality of life patches / fixes the game had seen.

Penance never truly ends

With that, our dear Penitents, we are all but finished with our post where we humbly ask that you vote for Blasphemous to receive Steam's 'Labor of Love' award.

Each and every one of your votes will go a long way, and who knows, if the Miracle wills it we may even be blessed with such an accolade!

But know this, Cvstodia still has much left to reveal as Blasphemous' next free DLC arrives in 2021!

Penitent be the heart.
