Stream Events: Acid rain

Hello!

Sorry for the break we had in regards to delivering the news about The Riftbreaker! We’ve been working very hard, though, and achieved a lot of progress! You can see exactly what changed by giving our stream VODs a watch. They can be found here, in the 'past streams' section:

https://mixer.com/exor_studios

Our streams are quite special for two reasons. First, you can see the effects of our work on an almost day-two day basis and instantly give us feedback (and laugh at our failures!). Second, you can interact with the gameplay through the Community Events that happen during gameplay. When a Community Event occurs, the viewers of the stream are given a couple of options to vote on. They can do so by using either the MixPlay interface on Mixer or the Twitch chat, depending on the service. The player sees the voting results in real-time.

The events that can occur through this system range from beneficial to detrimental. The viewers can give the streamer resources or take them away. The same goes for the attack waves - the viewers can strengthen or weaken them. The most interesting, however, are the weather effects. We are going to take a look at them this week, and the first has already become a fan favorite. Let’s learn everything about acid rain!

Acid rain is a global weather event. Once it is in effect, all the player-built structures on the map start receiving some damage per second. It is not a high amount but definitely adds up over time. Acid rain is accompanied by dense, dark clouds that obstruct the sunlight, rendering solar panels useless. The damage is slightly randomized, leading to glorious effects, such as this one:

During the acid rain, it is impossible to set up new buildings, as the printing device becomes damaged at an instant. The player must keep that in mind to avoid losing resources. It is also important to note that all Community Events are linked with attack waves, so the rain is not the only threat. We won’t leave you defenseless - there is counterplay to this, with automated repair facilities at the forefront. Introducing redundant energy lines can keep your base operational even if some energy hubs get destroyed.

We would like to hear your opinion about events like these. Do you think the damage from the acid rain is a bit too much? Or should we add some more detrimental effects? What other kinds of events would you like to see in the game? Let us know in the comment section or on our Discord server! The Riftbreaker's main theme - performed live!

...and now for something completely different!

A lot of side events accompany Gamescom every year. You don't get to meet your colleagues from the game dev world every day, after all, so when you do, it calls for a celebration!

This year we had the chance to co-sponsor the Polish Party organized by the Indie Games Poland Foundation. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, have a chat with friends and enjoy a warm, summer evening after a day of hard work at the fair.

One of the main attractions of the party was a live concert of the Manico String Quartet, playing music from various video games. Before the event, the organizers asked us if there were any pieces from our games that could work on strings. Without a moment of hesitation, we said yes.

Here is the Manico String Quartet's interpretation of The Riftbreaker Main Theme, originally composed by Marcin Pukaluk.

If you haven't heard the original version, you can give it a listen here:

What do you think? We were incredibly excited to hear The Riftbreaker Theme live and we think the band did a great job with their interpretation of the piece. It made the whole event even more memorable!

There's much more good music in The Riftbreaker, some of you have already had a chance to listen to it during our regular live streams at www.mixer.com/exor_studios - they take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 3 PM CEST. Follow us not to miss them!

Don't miss the interactive stream!

Hello!

Our biweekly stream is up. As usual, we are testing the latest development build of The Riftbreaker. The goal is to catch all the pesky bugs lingering in the game code and gather feedback from you. The suggestions from the community are very valuable to us, so keep them coming!

You can find the stream at www.mixer.com/exor_studios

Last time we managed to complete a 90-minute-long survival run. A lot of interesting things happened thanks to the audience and their participation. The interactive streaming events are shaping up quite nicely. Here's a little highlight of one of the awesome things that happened last Thursday.

Who knows what will happen this time? Come and find out! We are also going to have a little announcement during the stream, so it's going to be worth it.

See you on Mixer!

We are back to streaming regularly!

Hi!

Interactive live streaming features are something we are very excited about. They introduce interaction between the streamer and the audience on a completely different level. Needless to say, we've never done anything like this before, so there is a lot of work ahead of us :)

In order to get those features to a satisfactory level, we need to keep testing them. There is no better way to do it than to test with a live audience :) That is why starting Thursday, September 12th (that's today, btw), we are going to come back to our regular streaming schedule - Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 PM CEST. Of course, that's the general plan. Some changes may happen, so keep an eye on our news channels not to miss anything ;)

The streams are going to take place on Mixer, at www.mixer.com/exor_studios However, we are working on integrations for most major streaming services, and all of them will need some stress testing. We will, naturally, announce it ahead of time when the stream is going to be held on a different platform than Mixer.

To stay up-to-date with the streaming schedule and news, join our Discord - www.discord.gg/exorstudios - we post a reminder every time we go live.

If you have never seen The Riftbreaker in action during a live stream, you might want to check out this gameplay video:

All our past streams are also available in the 'Past Streams' section of our Mixer channel.

See you during the stream!

PAX West is in the books!

Hello!

August has been the craziest month in EXOR history when it comes to gaming shows. We traveled thousands of kilometers, attended Gamescom and PAX West, gave away tons of merch and got to meet a lot of amazing people! A+ experience overall. Enjoy some pictures from the event and our short report. There are also a couple of pictures unrelated to EXOR, but we enjoyed seeing those things so much that we wanted to share them with you!

PAX West was a one of a kind event. All the people there were passionate gamers, happy to share their enthusiasm with everyone around them. They were eager to try out The Riftbreaker, and even though most of them have never heard about it before, they had a lot of fun. So did we! Watching somebody play your game and smile is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

Now it is time to come back to the office and work on the game. We have a ton of new features planned, as well as upgrades to some of the stuff you’ve already seen. Make sure to follow our channels for updates. Some exciting stuff is coming your way!

Over the course of the last month, hundreds of show attendees had the opportunity to test the updated event demo and left us a lot of valuable feedback. We are in the process of implementing it right now. Expect to see the results soon on our development stream!

Starting Thursday, September 12th, we should be back to our regular streaming schedule. We are going to stream Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3 PM CEST. The stream is a great opportunity to talk to us directly, ask questions, give suggestions and also test the interactive streaming features. Acid ran, anyone? ;)

We would also like to invite you to join our Discord community. It’s a chance to get some behind-the-scenes knowledge and join the beta when it comes around. Head over to www.discord.gg/exorstudios
