Owner of Payday 2 and Control publisher announces layoff plans, will focus on established games going forwards

Digital Bros, the company behind 505 games - which has published the likes of Control and Assetto Corsa - has announced that it expects to cut 30% of its global workforce.

The anticipated layoffs have been announced as part of an “organizational review” Digital Bros is conducting “across its development studios and publishing units”. That list would include the number of prominent studios under the 505 Games umbrella, such as Kunos Simulazioni, creators of racing sim Assetto Corsa Competizione, and Terraria mobile developer DR Studios.

“The video game market has evolved since the pandemic to be more selective in terms of new games, with consumers increasingly reverting to well established Intellectual Properties and playing these same games for longer periods,” Digital Bros wrote in a press release about the announced review.

Spatial Awareness

spatial awareness is such an important trait to have when racing on Assetto Corsa Competizione to ensure that you prevent any risk of damage and significantly increase your chances of finishing races.

Try to paint a mental map of the cars around you and take full advantage of radar to predict what your opponents are going to do next.

Are they going to run deep into the corner? Can you go for a cutback?

"It is very important to both know where you are and where competitors are around you. Looking for references in the track is super important for braking properly, even little patches of brown grass are good markers”.

Mastering a Car

Car choice is very important when getting to grips with Assetto Corsa Competizione. Each car has unique characteristics which synergises with your driving style. Spending time to try out each car and find the one that fits your driving style is crucial not just to finding pace but to maximise your enjoyment within the game.

"Spend time picking a car you can handle on default setups & stick with it to improve pace."

Slow in, Fast out

This one comes straight from the legendary esports driver himself Nils Naujoks.

The importance of exit speeds when trying to gain time on any track is incredibly crucial especially at tracks like Monza where there are long straights, so every KPH (or MPH for the Brits and Americans) really matters.

Initially try adjusting your braking point so you can focus on maximising the exit speeds and then push that braking point back until you reach a point where you're carrying as much momentum as possible through the corner.

"Change mindset from trying to gain time in corners to gaining time on straights. Exit corners fast as your first priority."

Tyre Pressures

As the only part of the car that actually contacts the road, getting your tyres to the optimal window for pressure and temperature is a major factor to gaining both lap time and confidence.

The optimal dry tyre pressure range is from 26.0 to 27.0.

Depending on what these values are set to affect the way the car behaves, the lower in the optimal range, the more responsive the car will be but top speed will be affected and vice versa.

The optimal tyre temperature range is 70°C-100°C core

If the temperature of the tyres is outside of this window, then tyre wear is increased greatly.

Find a Community

Growing as a driver and finding pace is done much faster when you aren't doing it alone. Find yourself a community for your platform and introduce yourself, be realistic about your abilities and your goals. The Assetto Corsa Community is a very supportive and friendly place to be.

"Find a community and grow up with someone. They will give all the advice you need."

Maurizio Manos - Facebook.

Practise your Racecraft

What is Racecraft?

Racecraft refers to a driver’s ability to race against other people and make quick, strategic decisions under pressure whilst on the track. It covers everything from a driver’s ability to overtake and defend their position whilst also managing their tyres and fuel.

Improving your racecraft is crucial to succeeding in racing. You can gain many places by just making the right decision at the right time. Sometimes (especially in endurance racing) it's more beneficial to let a person attacking you pass if they are much faster than you. This will minimise the amount of time lost by defending them and also introduces a possibility of gaining on the cars ahead because they might not have the wisdom to do the same so lose time as a result.

"Practise your racecraft, don't just focus on hotlaps. Being surrounded by other fast cars takes getting used to."
