Upcoming Unit of the Day - Week 2 Roundup

Hello Moonbreakers!

Charlie Cleveland, Game Director on Moonbreaker (previously of Subnautica) has been sharing some awesome Units of the Day on our Reddit (and we've been cross-posting them in Steam discussions). We're excited to share another roundup of new Units coming to Moonbreaker. To read the full post for each Unit, click "Read More."
"Originally called the "Tendril", the seed of the idea here was to have cables or tendrils shooting out from it, lashing onto to all units in range, paralyzing them. For a culture that's all about disrupting, that seemed appropriate. And this was another foray into bigger units, with splashier, more exciting effects." Read more.
Zapper Anenqui (Day 8)
"I think this one started more with the concept, than with an ability. We thought about some kind of big shock-mace, which emanated a lot of electrical power. That feels like a familiar trope, but the great thing about tropes is that they are clear and players "get" them immediately. " Read more.
Charger Macoa (Day 7)
"The idea was to "channel" energy from the sky or from your ship, and then reproject it somewhere on the field - or possibly the reverse. An earlier idea was to have it recharge your ship assists so you could use them twice in a turn. But now with ship assists removed (not forever though! more coming on that soon), we needed some other "channel"." Read more.

Thanks for all the excitement and feedback regarding these new Units! As a reminder you can play on our Experimental Branch to help us test some upcoming Moonbreaker goodness.

Upcoming Unit of the Day - Week 1 Roundup

Hello Moonbreakers!

Many of you know Charlie Cleveland, Game Director on Moonbreaker (previously of Subnautica). Every day on our official Reddit, he posts an Upcoming Unit of the Day. We're excited to share a roundup of all the Units he has shared! To read the full post for each Unit, click "Read More."
Pacifier Ohtli (Day 6)
"A lot of the units I've talked about so far took some iteration, some time to get right. But for today's unit, it worked pretty much first try. Introducing, Pacifier Ohtli." Read more.
Motivator Atzi (Day 5)
"Next up in our upcoming Crew we'll be releasing as part of our upcoming Servants of Yi-Aweti culture. The idea for Motivator Atzi was that it was originally a mining robot, before "awakening" to find a higher purpose." Read more.
G.L.I.T.T.E.R. (Day 4)
"The idea for this unit was originally to have some game effect "reflected" back at a unit. Ie, if you got hit with a 15-damage Furia, instead of hitting the target unit, it would bounce back and clobber Furia instead. So the art team created a robot with mirror, which she was looking into, and that she could also use to reflect things back at folks." Read more.
N3sance (Day 3)
"This is a fun one. I wanted to create a unit that was just plain annoying to play against. One that you could use to harass your opponent, trying to tilt them." Read more.
Rebuilder Texo (Day 2)
"We never wanted to think of our unit abilities as "good" or "bad". The game is all about infinite possibilities, so who were we to say that in some special situation, you might want to heal an enemy unit instead of your own? It doesn't happen often, but definitely happens." Read more.
Cloaker Tozi (Day 1)
"This guy can cloak all nearby units, forcing you to deal with it first before the other ones. It's a bit ridiculous - so much so that we had to make sure it couldn't cloak itself in case you found out a way to clone it" Read more.

Keep an eye on the Steam forums, too. We will hopefully post these daily Unit previews there as well. We are looking forward to sharing more and more exciting development updates with you.

Beasts & Blooms Hotfix Released

A hotfix for Moonbreaker Beasts & Blooms was just released! 🔥

This hotfix resolves an issue where matches would not end if Gardener Xo died from area of effect (AoE) damage when Fertilize Soil and Thornvine were used.

Beasts & Blooms Update Released!

Get ready to shake up the board in the latest update to Moonbreaker Early Access.

Grow your Rosters and roar into battle with two brand-new Captains, several new Crew, and tons more ways to make your Moonbreaker experience bloom and grow.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Welcome aboard, Captains
We're adding not one, but two new Captains to this update.

Xuna – whose name might seem familiar to those of you that listened to Zax's Story – arrives in The Reaches with her menagerie of robot animals. A 'Beastmaster' of sorts, she can deploy and engage her robots to help control the board and support her crew in a number of ways. With Toltacan ready to attack, Dado on standby for healing, and Majan to cover your tracks with some soft cover, the strategic possibilities are endless.

Want to learn more? Xuna's audio drama is also available with this update. Listen in-game or on your favorite Podcast platform to dig deeper into the world and lore of The Reaches.

Meanwhile, Gardner Xo is ready to cultivate. Fertilize the soil of any map and give Crew in-range a speed boost, Nourish gives a health boost, or you can plant Thornvines to create obstacles for your Rivals and send them on the attack. You'll be a real thorn in their side.

Some improvements to Xuna and Gardener Xo's models will be introduced in a future update. So, for now, they are not able to be painted. (We don't want you to lose your incredible and creative designs!)
New Unit, Who's This?
Looking to shake up your Rosters? Look no further!

Five new Units are crashing onto the board with Beasts and Blooms. They're ready to head into battle alongside your chosen Captain.

 • Pacifier Ohtli (Yi-Aweti): A five Leadership cost, nine health melee Unit. He has the ability to return friendly or enemy Crew to the Bridge. But Pacifier Ohtli will take one damage each time
 • Dr. Feelbad (Smuggler): A six Leadership cost, 10 health ranged Unit. He can fire their Left and Right gun for a Cinder cost of one (Left) or two (Right). For the next turn, affected Units take one extra damage, per gun used, whenever they take damage.
 • Fixer (Smuggler): A one Leadership cost, seven health ranged Unit. With Call Favor, they can choose a Crew and give it Infused for three turns (if friendly), or give it a Bounty for three turns (if rival).
 • Arms Dealer Yuki (Smuggler): A five Leadership cost, nine health ranged Unit. She can use Fire Sale to give each allied Crew in range a single-use grenade, flamethrower or mine.
 • Whispers (Smuggler): A two Leadership cost, eight health Unit. Use two Cinder on Feel the Music to push away all Units in range. Crew in range also gain Powerless for a turn, rendering their unit ability unusable

You can also trial Units from the Collection menu. Select the Unit that tickles your fancy and click “Try Me!” to give it a shot and see if you'd like to take them into battle.
Train at the Academy
Hone your strategy skills by completing Tutorials at the Methedori Academy and learn all the intricacies of Moonbreaker! Maximus will guide you through a refined first module and three new training modules to help you get the edge on your rivals.

As you complete each tutorial module, you'll also earn unique rewards to trick out your Roster and much more.

Paint Your Way

Have you ever wanted the deployables to be as customizable as the Units themselves? You're in luck! With this update, you can now paint some deployables to match your sweet paint jobs.

Zax's mines are currently available to paint and customize to your heart's content, with additional deployables (such as Xuna's robot companions) coming soon.

You can even lose yourself more in the painting experience with new environments and backdrops to choose from. Try them out and see if they make your time painting even more zen.

Changes for the Community

But that's not all!

The team has been hard at work improving the game in so many areas, based on continued feedback from the community.

You can now select your map for private games. See where you stand on the new Leaderboard. Plan ahead with improved pathfinding. Create Rosters with more ease. Strategize your next moves with greater accuracy with added bases to cover. Increased board visibility thanks to adjusted map lighting, Added volume slider for tutorial videos. And much more.

Please keep all of your incredible feedback coming in through Discord, on Nolt, and across social media. We want to make the Moonbreaker experience one you return to over and over again.

Dev Blog: Beasts & Blooms

Hey Moonbreakers!

We've been hard at work adding new features and new Crew to the game. But now it's finally time to add something else - two new Captains! But first…

We like to say that if we're not embarrassed by our first release into Early Access, we waited too long.

Some of you might remember that the first version of Subnautica didn't even have… a sub. Seriously, the Cyclops was nowhere to be found. Nor did it have any survival elements. I'll never forget reading words on a Steam review that said "How DARE you release a survival game without eating and drinking?!" At that point, we hadn't even been thinking about the game in terms of survival. But those words just kept ringing in my ears.

Players were clearly thinking of the game as a survival game, and they "showed us" that it was. So we added food and water and kept moving forward. That's a long way of saying that even though we knew three Captains, ~40 Crew, no tutorial and no single-player was a pretty threadbare first release, we released it anyways knowing that the feedback we'd get would help us immensely.

We didn't know how much of the core game systems needed revisiting along the way, but we're so much better for it. So, Beasts & Blooms (releasing this week or next) is the first addition of two new playstyles, with many more to come.
Beasts
Xuna is our robotic "beastmaster", who plays as a control archetype. Instead of her being able to attack, she has a robot dog that becomes disabled when it would otherwise be destroyed. As an expert robot-maker, Xuna can repair her trusty Toltacan by getting close to it. She can also use her robotic parrot to create areas of soft cover, and assign her insect drone to repeatedly heal any Crew she likes. All together, this gives her a nice toolkit for controlling game pacing and regions of the map.
Blooms
Gardener Xo is our "gardener" class, who is all about creating, growing and nurturing (he is also the first of a new culture, called The Servants of Yi-Aweti - more to come there). The Gardener can create spiky Thornvines, which damage anything they touch. He also automatically "nurtures" all friendly units nearby, increasing their max health temporarily. A nurtured Thornvine turns into a mobile sentry, which slowly marches towards enemies and automatically shoots them every turn. He feels a bit like the Gorge from Natural Selection 2.
Crew
We've also added five new Crew, which will unlock new gameplay. Generate more Cinder and place bounties on other units with the Fixer, give any Crew single-use flamethrowers, grenades and mines with Arms Dealer Yuki, throw friendly or rival units back to the Bridge with Pacifier Ohtli, blanket units with multiple piles of corrosive particles with Dr. Feelbad or deafen and push Crew with Whispers. These new units should add more variety and playstyles to the game, and we have many more Crew (and all new cultures) on the way.

There's tons more in this update though. For more details, check out this video we just posted, where I show the rest:

We hope you love the direction we're heading with Beasts & Blooms and enjoy playing it arrives this week or next (just got to squash some bugs first).

Please keep your feedback coming and we hope you're enjoying the Early Access experience!

See you in the Reaches,
Charlie.
