Remedy teams up with Tencent for multiplayer game codenamed Vanguard

In an investor announcement (thanks Game Informer), Remedy Games asserted its intention of partnering with Chinese publishing giant Tencent to create a free-to-play cooperative shooter with worldwide appeal. Dubbed Vanguard, the game will be Remedy’s IP localized for “select Asian markets” by Tencent and released and distributed for other markets by Remedy itself. This will be Remedy’s first game-as-service title.

Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, expounded on what the partnership entails:

The rest of the scant info we do know is that the game is for consoles and PC, with a potential mobile version developed by Tencent. The game will also use the Unreal Engine. The full announcement can be found on Remedy’s investor site. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Vanguard, but the Tencent partnership is new.

Alan Wake Remastered to launch Fall 2021

Remedy announced the long-rumored Alan Wake Remastered on community site The Sudden Stop. The remaster, which will include the base game and the two expansions, The Signal and The Writer, will be published by Epic Games and launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC sometime in Fall 2021. The game will be available in 4k and feature developer commentary from creative director Sam Lake.

The emphasis for this announcement was centered on the fans, as this announcement came in an open letter from Sam Lake to the Sudden Stop website, a community website dedicated to Alan Wake and Remedy at large.

This announcement tracks with the rumors and leaks we’ve been hearing for a while now right down to the release period, though Remedy aren’t quite ready to announce a more specific date yet.

Taiwanese retailer lists possible October 5 release date for Alan Wake Remastered

Gematsu reports that a listing on the shop page of Rakuten Taiwan for Alan Wake Remastered suggests an October 5 release date as well as appearances on the PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S, furthering speculation that the franchise is coming back soon.

Before this listing, the initial event to set off this speculation was a leak on the Epic Games Store suggesting its existence, though until now we didn’t know a release date or what other platforms it would appear on. This listing changes that, and seemingly makes it clear that it’s coming soon.

Also noted by Gematsu is a tweet by analyst Daniel Ahmad that suggests that an official announcement is coming in the next week, which coincidentally is also when Sony’s hosting its PS5 showcase. That potentially points to the presentation being Alan Wake Remastered’s official debut.
