End of early access and soundtrack




Hello everybody,

We're getting very close to the end of Early Access, which will happen on June 15th. This is a major milestone for the whole team, and we wanted to give you an update on what it means for you, the players.

  • :cutedragon: Version 1.0 offers a wide range of improvements and new features. We'll let you know the details on June 15, but among the big news, get ready to explore dungeons with your best students.
  • :fatpegasus: This does not mean that it will be without balancing issues and small bugs. The team will stay full time on the game for a some more months to make sure to provide the necessary updates.
  • :flyingguineapig: And even after that, it doesn't mean that we are dropping the development of Spellcaster University. On the contrary. In the fall we will offer all players a major free DLC that we will be working on until then. New cards and new equipment are on the way. And we've got more ideas for what's next!
  • :councillor: We will keep a close eye on the new dungeon system. It's very young, and we're ready to adjust and balance what needs to be adjusted.



To prepare for this release, we have put the game's soundtrack on sale. All the music composed for Spellcaster University is here, including all the new tracks made for the end of the early access. Feel free to check it out if you want to support us.

Some news from Spellcaster University and the next 1.0

Greetings to all magic school directors. Today we have a small announcement to let you know a few things about the immediate future of Spellcaster University.

The first thing we wanted to tell you is that the pace of updates is going to decrease significantly, because unless there are major bugs, the next update will be 1.0 and the release of early access. When will this final release take place? It is not yet fixed, but expect something between 2 and 4 months. We will announce a definitive date soon.

What does this mean for you, dear magic school directors?
  • new events
    new languages (a priori we are targeting: Spanish, Polish, Korean, Japanese, German) in addition to those already available
  • ] a completely rewritten version of the English version
  • ] more improvements of UI
  • and a big extra addition to enrich the gameplay. For now, here's just a little preview of what's coming... we'll keep the surprise for now.



But what is it? What are these creatures? Well, let's say your students are going to have some extra work! But we'll talk about that later in detail.

Finally, we would like to make it clear that the 1.0 release does not mean the end of Spellcaster University's development. We still have quite a few community-suggested improvements that we would like to add. Even though we won't be able to do "everything"! Thanks to all of you!

Update 0.99 - Sly Disciple

A smaller update, but one that will still allow you to improve your teachers and offers you some new features of UI. But in the meantime, in the shadows, we are working towards the advent of 1.0...

Thank you again for your support. We're approaching the end of early access, and the game has come a long way in a year and a half, thanks to your feedback !

  • New: display of the number of identical cards played at the time of selection (probably the feature we have been asked for most since the beginning of the early access!), will only be accurate on new games.
  • New: end game info panel.
  • New: 5 new cards to specialize your teachers (one per magic school).
  • New: buffs logo for elves, deep-ones and half-orcs.
  • New: more events.
  • Balance : Sign of the Very Old Ones is much less effective (60% less).
  • Balance : Impact of the deep-one on the progress of the evil is much less effective (60% less).
  • Fix: fix a bug when the old teacher archetype clean a wall.
  • Fix: no more artifact placement sound at game loading.
  • Fix: global statistics are now well recorded at the end of a campaign.
  • Fix: end-of-game achievements are enabled.
  • Fix: student blocking on the cloud map fixed.
  • Fix: typos.
  • Fix: students no longer get stuck in the crypt.


Update 0.98 - Vengeful Archimage

A new update with new content and gameplay additions ! We also integrate the Steam cloud. We've always tried to ensure backward compatibility of savegames, but adding the Steam Cloud can eventually lead to some problems. We have tried to anticipate all possible scenarios, but if this update should cause you to lose access to your savegames, do not hesitate to report it here https://github.com/JulienNigon/SpellcasterUniversity-Bug-Report/issues. We will do our best to help you recover them.

* Balance: event of the visit to the peasants rebalanced.
* Balance: "Skull" artifact is half as effective now.
* Balance: conditions to obtain a ghoul modified (because similar to the marionetist).
* Balance: the acceleration factor of the evil beyond the normal time of a gameis increased from 280% to 380%. This means that if your game lasted twice as long as the "normal" time, the evil is moving at 380% of its normal speed.

* Fix: the "Demanding" trait now works correctly.
* Fix: the curves in the statistics book no longer go completely out of whack when a save is resumed.
* Fix: it is no longer possible to accumulate several pieces of equipment on the same location (e.g. several staffs, several medallions, etc...)
* Fix: when loading a save the students appear directly with their equipment.
* Fix: the thaumaturges do not make any more mana with each recruitment of a new student.
* Fix: the belvedere can be placed in mirror.
* Fix: typos and ressources logo not showing when needed.

Update 0.97 Demonic Arcanist

A new alternative way to win for the last level, giving you more options. It is essentially based on being a generalist in your mana production, and on having a bit of luck. We will pay attention to your feedback to balance it in the next patches.
We also added a whole set of statistics and logos for futures. We hope you'll like it!

  • Balance: delaying the progress of evil by visiting zombies is a bit more expensive.
  • Balance: strong acceleration of the Dark Lord's speed of arrival when the "normal" time of the game is exceeded. It is always possible to delay it greatly, but this will complicate infinite strategies.

  • Fix: less stressful sound for the volume control bars.
  • Fix: the advance of the forces of evil can no longer be negative.
  • Fix: correction of the transmutation mode (abnormal behavior of decks on several consecutive games).
  • Fix: buying a crypt from zombies now consumes mana correctly.
  • Fix: multiple objectives are correctly loaded and validated at the beginning of a new game.
  • Fix: Fairy Dragon now count as a dragon for quest purpose.
  • Fix: no more characters stuck in the pit of the assassins' arena.
  • Fix: displaying high level pieces of equipment no longer bugs in the stats book.
  • fix: text and zoom on card selection bug when hand too big.

  • Meta: uploading assets for the future "Donjon Project"
