The Survivalists Farming Update Is Live!

Hey Survivalists!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The Farming Update has now washed ashore the Steam live version! This update ties together the Animal and Dangerous Plants updates that brought new enemies, bosses, taming. Adding Farming content with new crafting benches, crop system, dyeing customisation, combat update, fishing and many more top community requests!

Thank you to everyone for there feedback that has helped us continue to improve the game and the support so many have shown. We hope this update shows how committed we are to making the game the best it can be.

These 3 updates will be coming to all other platforms soon, we’ll let everyone know when we have time frames!

Farming Update Notes
Crop System
• Players can now plant and grow their own crops including new varieties of plants to grow. Remember to water them!
 • Domesticated crops can offer a higher yield of resources including rare items.
 • Dangerous plants can now be grown to act as base defences.
 • New cooking recipes have been added utilising new crops.
 • New structures and items have been added to support new farming system.
 • Monkeys can now plant seeds and water plants if taught.
 • Seeds can be found on certain animals throughout the world.
Dyeing Bench
• A bench that allows players to colour walls, floors and chests to suit their tastes.

We wanted to give those players who love base building more customisation and control over how their island homes looked!
New Structures
• Tools and weapons can now be repaired with the new repair bench.
 • Weapons and tools can now be improved by using the grindstone structure.
 • Alchemy bench allows the player to transmute certain items into others.
 • Food processor bench allows food resources to be converted.
 • Cosmetic structures have been added including pond that can be populated with fish.
 • Refuse pit can be used to destroy items. (We know some people will be happy to de-clutter!)
 • Decorative water features have been added.
Fast Raft
• A new faster raft can be crafted using crop resources.

There was a lot of community requests for the raft to be speedier and we thought it would be a good idea to have a better version of the raft that can do just that! We hope everyone has fun speeding from island to island!
Fishing
Cast away! Nets and fish traps can be crafted enable catching fish live or for food.
Raid Improvements
• Raids are now focused on the player and only occur during a bloodmoon.
 • Players now receive plenty of warning prior to a raid to enable them to pick the right course of action.

We had a lot of community requests both that raiding on a base could happen when you were away and you felt a little helpless. This way, there is plenty of warning for the raids and you can make decisions on whether to try to get as far away from your base with no items and take the fall or prepare your defences to fight of the enemies.
Taming
• Tamed animals can be used as guard animals.
Larger Inventory
• Access to a larger inventory via a backpack has been added.

This was a big community request, there is now a permanent extra row of slots you can access to drop things in and out of your hot bar. You can however still teach a monkey to pick up a chest too for extra storage.
Group Pickup
• Alternate methods of pickup have been added, no need to spam the button.

This might be the biggest community request, people were tired of having to pick up individual items, now if you hold down pickup you will suck in all items on the ground granted you have enough space in your backpack!
Multitool
• No longer needs to be selected, if it is in the inventory it will be used to craft.
New Rare Resources
• Rare resources are now present in the world needed for some recipes.
Combat & Stamina
• An overhaul to combat giving more fluid combat.
 • Greater control over direction of attacks.
 • Lunge and knockback changes.
 • Stamina has been altered reducing running out when in combat and harvesting resources.
 • Flatter difficulty curve for enemy health.
Other adjustments
• Damage values added to weapon tooltips.
 • Durability values added to tooltips.
 • Some reworking of weapon and tool values to make clearer the benefits of using the right tool for the right job.
 • Better colour coding on items to make clearer their rarity.
 • Baby animals are now present in the world.
 • New rare crops have been added to the world (*requires new save for them to appear naturally although all the resources are obtainable through getting the seeds from monsters/animals to grow these plants yourself!)
 • Monkeys now ‘bark’ needs as well as an icon.
 • Loot pools have been rebalanced.
 • Summon favourite monkeys from anywhere with the new summoning banana.
 • Durability on weapons and tools increased.
 • Slight increase to player and monkey movement speed.
 • A host of new recipes have been added to complement and support new features.
 • Online privileges are now turned on by default.
Bug Fixes
• Fixed an issue where Shadows were displaying incorrectly around Teleporters.
 • Fixed instances where sleeping could cause a desync between the visual and actual time of day.
 • Fur rugs are no longer able to be placed ocean tiles using the raft.
 • Fixed an issue preventing players from using the Host’s shared monkeys unless both players have the privilege turned on.
 • Fixed an issue which caused raft music to continually play.
 • Fixed an issue where players could place storage chests on swamp tar pits.
 • Fixed an issue where the growing up particle effect for baby animals was desynced.
 • Fixed an issue that prevented players from changing the colour of their character or monkey using Mouse and Keyboard.
 • Fixed an issue where pins placed in Vaults and Labyrinths were incorrectly displayed outside of these areas.
 • Fixed an issue which caused the Structural Integrity achievement to unlock when building the Taming Bench.
 • Fixed an issue preventing interaction with some lootable objects.
 • Fixed an issue where on rare occasions a player’s monkeys could not travel back with them when leaving an online session.
 • Fixed an issue where on rare occasions after a raid, damaged chests could no longer be used by monkeys.

That's it for this update, we hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them! We'll be looking to move forward with more changes and the new content into a live patch as soon as we can so any feedback is hugely appreciated. This update will also be coming to other platforms with the previous Animal + Dangerous Plants Update and we'll keep everyone updated on when they are expected.

If you don't have access to the Experimental Branch yet for The Survivalists and would like to try upcoming changes to the game you can do some by following the information below...

Installing the Experimental Branch

Warning on save data

If you access the Experimental Branch you risk your save data. We highly recommend backing up your save data before accessing it. Your save data default should be here:

You can just copy this to another folder for safe keeping.

Your current save will be compatible with the new Experimental Branch but likely you will not be able to go back to default with that save. The Experimental Branch will be kept up to date, so you could in theory just play the new branch going forwards. Also you will only be able to play online with other experimental branch players as the default will be incompatible.

Steps to enable Experimental Branch

First right click the game in your Steam Library and select Properties.

Then select the ‘Betas’ tab.

From here select Experimental from the dropdown list.

Once you next try to open The Survivalists on Steam you should automatically download the experimental branch!

Experimental Branch Feedback

Let us know all your thoughts and feedback in the ‘Experimental Branch Feedback’ section on the Steam forums and feel free to report any issues in the ‘Report Experimental Branch Problems’ area.

Thanks again for all your support and feedback so far, we can’t wait for everyone to try out all of the tweaks and new changes!

We'll keep everyone up to date here on Steam when all of the new changes roll onto the new branch and live.

Message in a Bottle - Quality of Life and The New Update

Survivalists!

Following 'Island Orientation' pre launch, we now have 'Message in a Bottle'! This is our developer diary where we'll show behind the scenes developer workings and teasers of upcoming content!

A big content update is coming soon that will act as an almost part two to the animal update, though today we aren't spoiling that just yet. ːsteamsadː

We will be instead focusing on the extra parts to this update and the quality of life additions lots of players have been asking for! Thank you everyone for your invaluable feedback so far.
Corrupted Save File Fix Is Here!
Before we start, we'd like to again apologies to those that experienced the save file issues with infinite loading and corrupted saves. Our update to fix this has been on the live version for the past couple of weeks.
Backpack
It has been one of the hottest requested community features and whilst you can employ a monkey friend to carry a storage box. We've listened and a backpack to extend your personal storage is coming!
Fast Raft
One of the regular complaints is that the regular old raft is a bit to slow for the keen sea farers among you. Well, good news! A more advanced version of the raft is coming to the desert island lands.

This will be crafted in a super secret, soon to be revealed manner with advanced crafting resources. No spoilers...yet!
Raid Warnings
Raids are now focused on the player and occur during bloodmoon. Players now receive plenty of warning prior to a raid to enable them to pick the right course of action. We know that a lot of players have been frustrated with raids and we've been tweaking them over the patches to make them more interesting and less out of the blue.

We hope this move will get raids to a good place where you will have time to prepare and put up the best fight for your survival!
Much More!
This is by no means an exhaustive list of what improvements are coming in the next update, we'll be teasing more in the coming Message in a Bottle posts! We will also be teasing the big content feature that is washing ashore, soon!

Thanks for reading and we look forward to seeing you again next week Survivalists!

Experimental Branch New Corrupted Save Hotfix

Hey Survivalists!

We've released a patch on the Experimental Branch aiming to fix the remaining corrupted save files and infinite load screens. We hope after some feedback to move this across to the live version as soon as we can.

We had released a patch to the main branch which resolved many of the save corruption issues at the end of December but we've been working hard on another fix for those saves still effected. Thank you all for your patience so far and we're sorry to those still effected.

The last fix post:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/897450/announcements/detail/4135958413714984526

For this patch on the experimental branch we highly recommend backing up your save data which you can find instructions below.

We'd hugely appreciate feedback from those people still effected on the live version.

Infinite Load and Save File Issues Hotfix

Hey Survivalists!

We're so sorry that some of you have come across issues for saves, where there would be an infinite loading screen and we have been working as fast as we can to get through the reports here on Steam and the save files sent across on our Discord! We have a fix for the cause of the issue and also a fix to some of the corrupted files. See the full notes here:

Fixed an issue causing corrupted saves and infinite loading screens.

To provide some context: The most recent patch introduced an issue, which, by itself didn't cause any harm however in some cases if players saved after experiencing this issue it would cause an infinite loading screen when attempting to load that save and potentially corrupt the save.

Fixed an issue that was causing saves to become corrupted after several save and load cycles.

This will prevent current saves from becoming corrupt but unfortunately saves that are already corrupt due to this issue are not fixed. We are working to try and resolve this issue. Please keep all of your corrupted saves.

Thanks for everyone's patience so far and we'll keep everyone updated with the further progress we make. If you have any remaining or other issues you can report them here:
