Weekly Recap #22: Tree of Life and new biome!

Hi Fox Riders,

It's time to introduce you the second biome from Nanotale: The Sunken Caves.

"Poison is spreading from the edges of the Sunken Caves, but the town feels safe and nurturing."

The Tree of Life

While a part of the team is now working on the new biome, the other part is finishing the Ancestral Forest.

The people from the Ancestral Forest worships the Tree of Life as it sings the Final Song to the faithful and those touched by magic.

We reworked it to create a series of platforms which better fits the level design.

This give you an overview of how we procedurally generate the Tree of Life in Houdini.

And this is how it currently looks like in our game editor. Next steps will be to put a texture on it and adjust the lighting.

Name that plant

Thank you for all your suggestions. The common mushrooms are now called the Silver Caps.

BONUS

We showed you a lot of animations for the Sheep but I think we forgot to show you that cute sleeping one.

Thank you for reading!

Don't hesitate to leave your thoughts below ːepiwinkː

Weekly Recap #21: The Carrier enemy

Hi Fox Riders,

Last week we worked on the Carrier enemy. As suggested by its name, the Carrier carries fire, water, or poison on its back.

When the Carrier carries water, you can use it to your advantage to
extinguish a fire.

The Carrier walks slowly but can surprise you with its attack. Looks like a dinosaure's move, don't you think?

Fire can burn poison. Wait for the Carrier to be close to a poisoned pool and hit it with a spell to make its container explode.

We also created a few more animations for the sheep.

It is heavy and hard to move unless you entice it with that delicious grass it likes so much.

That's it!

Thank you for reading.

Cheers,
VirginRedemption

Weekly Recap #20: You said sheep?

Hi Fox riders,

Remember 3 months ago when we introduced you the sheep? Now it's animated!

This is how to create a bridge on water using the ice spell in the game.

Name that plant

We have so many elements from the Lore that our author needs help to name some of them.

Here's the Frosted Dragon named by a member from the community.

Do you have ideas for the following plant? Leave it in the comments.

Thank you for reading!

Weekly Recap #19: NPCs finally!

Hi Fox Riders,

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. I personally spent it gardening but also painted a bit. Curious? You can see my work-in-progress here.

But what did we do for the Nanotale last week?

New Critter

We worked on that beautiful Birdmoth (name to be defined) created by Quentin while the rest of us were at EGX Rezzed.

NPCs

We also modelized the NPCs from the Ancestral Forest and animated them.

Spring-Cleaning

We also updated our Steam page with new screenshots and gifs.

BONUS

And because our animator needed a break he decided to create that video. Better with sound!

That's it! Thank you for reading and following Nanotale!

Weekly Recap #18: Back from PAX East and EGX Rezzed

Hi Fox Riders,

I hope you are all doing great and did not miss us too much while we were at PAX East and EGX Rezzed.

The two conventions went great for Nanotale! When the first player sat on our booth at PAX East to try the game, we felt really stressed, not knowing if he would enjoy it. That stress was at its climax when we met a returning player from Epistory. The thing is that both new and returning players loved it very much. They were really happy with the new RPG direction of the game and so with the art style.

Here's the stream we did with Rockpaper Shotgun during EGX Rezzed. Hope you will like what you see.

And here's what the press said about it so far:

While the four of us were at the convention, other people from the team stood at the studio and continued to work on the game. They also had the chance to experience the "Mini Fox Bug".

BONUS

More Green Jasper! Funny thing is that we saw people during convention running away from the Green Jasper while playing the demo because they were afraid of it ːepisweatː

Thank you for reading! I hope this wasn't too long.
