Among Us teases a sleek new map

Is the Among Us community about to get a new favourite map to replace the Skeld? Quite possibly, as developer InnerSloth has teased a new map for the game - and everyone is understandably quite excited.

The teaser itself leaves much to the imagination, but shows a shiny new cockpit with an all-important vent in the middle. InnerSloth plans on revealing more at the Game Awards, which takes place on 10th December (or in the early hours of 11th December, for those in the UK).

Plans for the map were announced back in September, when InnerSloth detailed a Henry Stickmin-themed location in its blog post discussing future plans (Henry Stickmin is another game series created by InnerSloth co-founder Marcus "PuffballsUnited" Bromander, by the way). We also know the map is supposed to be bigger than Polus, with "plenty of new tasks," and will be free for all players.

Innersloth reveals sneak peek of the new Among Us map

Among Us developer Innersloth has just revealed the social deduction game's latest map via its shiny new Twitter account. "Get all the news, peeks, and fun shenanigans here and become a part of the crew", says the account's first-ever post.

While the attached pic doesn't give away a great deal regarding the new map's overall layout, Innersloth has teased that more info will land at The Game Awards on December 10. The game itself has been nominated in the 'Best Multiplayer' and 'Best Mobile Game' categories.

What we can see so far in the small teaser is a nice, bright cockpit boasting a very comfy-looking command chair. We also get a peek at some screens, which could potentially house new tasks, and even a very sus Imposter vent. This is now the fourth map for Innersloth's hugely popular multiplayer game. Each offers its own quirks, tasks, and design layouts to keep things fresh.

New Among Us content teased for The Game Awards 2020

Among indie gaming, Among Us burst into the spotlight in the late months of 2020. From mobile devices to PC to viewing on Twitch, millions of hours are being spent playing or watching the sci-fi whodunit in action. It’s become such a popular phenomenon that of course Among Us has some well-deserved nominations in The Game Awards 2020 (despite being a 2018 game). With the game making nominees listing for Best Multiplayer and Best Mobile Game at The Game Awards, it seems like Innersloth is teasing new content that could be shown at The Game Awards 2020.

The tease was coming from the Innersloth devs themselves, who posted a cheeky little tweet from the Among Us Twitter on November 18, 2020, shortly after The Game Awards 2020 category nominees were revealed. Among Us has a place in two categories, Multiplayer and Mobile Game, for its status in 2020 as an incredibly popular breakout hit, so it could be argued that it was bound to see some kind of airtime during the show. However, Innersloth shared that said airtime could feature the reveal of new content.

The tease came immediately following a peek at a new Among Us map, which appears to be a large boat or something of the sort. It was very recently that in addition to a patch, Innersloth talked about a development roadmap for the game that included the development of a new map. The new map is said to be based on Henry Stikmin, which was another game by Innersloth, and the screenshot shown looks an awful lot like a certain scene from the Henry Stikmin games.

Even so, it remains to be seen if that’s the extent of what’s in store. As The Game Awards 2020 go live on December 10, 2020, stay tuned to Shacknews for new Among Us reveals and more announcements from the show.

Among Us devs show new map, tease Game Awards announcement

Among Us has a Twitter account now. Yeah, I know, a bit surprising that one of the most-suddenly-popular games is now months into its absurd success without a big social media presence, but here we are. The devs have kicked off the new account with a screenshot of the upcoming new map, and are teasing a more substantial announcement for The Game Awards.

The new map looks remarkably like the Toppat Airship from Innersloth's previous project, Henry Stickmin. The devs previously revealed that this map would have a Henry Stickmin theme, and the big bubble cockpit and red exterior leave little doubt. The map is expected to be "bigger than Polus", so expect to get extremely lost on your first few runs.

We're going to get more info on what's coming for Among Us at The Game Awards on December 10. The devs aren't specific on what that announcement will be, but there's room for all kinds of things, from a proper trailer for the new map to console releases and battle passes. That's all pure speculation, though, so keep an eye out for more in a few weeks.
