Among Us' next "major" update gets a livestream reveal this week

Among Us has a chonky update on the way, and you're going to find out more about it this week. Innersloth has revealed on Twitter that it's hosting a five-minute presentation tomorrow (November 9) at 11am PST / 2pm EST / 7pm GMT to share what's coming.

Suitably called Emergency Meeting, the livestream will delve further into what roles are on the way alongside some other things the developer isn't revealing just yet. That said, Riot has teased a League of Legends crossover in the latest Progress Days trailer, which features a shot of some crewmates with LoL-style accessories. You'll be able to watch the lowdown on the next major Among Us update on YouTube here when the time comes.

Earlier this year, the Among Us devs released a brief roadmap of things they are working on bringing to the game, though they didn't expand upon any in great detail.. We know that the sheriff and scientist make up two of the coming roles and that the general idea is to give players new ways to play. The team also revealed that they are working on a Hide-and-Seek mode to go with a new map. You'll need to wait until tomorrow, though, to see how much of this will be in the next update.

New Role Peek: The Shapeshifter

Impostors!

Our next major update is coming soon - actual release date to be announced - and while a huge chunk is secret, we did reveal new Roles would be part of it. As a little treat for being so patient, here’s a peek at what the new Impostor role will be. The rest of the roles will be for Crewmates only!

Introducing: THE SHAPESHIFTER.

The Shapeshifter can change their appearance and disguise themselves as other Crewmates. Do it well to frame other Crewmates and create confusion about who the real Impostor is. But watch out! The disguise doesn't last forever and leaves evidence behind.

Ability: This Impostor can pull up a menu of all other living Crewmates in the game and select one to copy their appearance (name, colour, and cosmetics). However the shapeshifting only lasts for a limited amount of time, unless altered in the lobby settings. Crewmates can see you midway through shapeshifting if they’re within line of sight, and the shift will leave evidence behind. During meetings, the Shapeshifter will appear as their original selves.

Adjustable gameplay options:
  • Probability: In the game lobby settings, you’ll be able to change the number and chance of an Impostor to have the Shapeshift ability.
  • Shapeshift Duration: How long an Impostor stays shifted after they change.
  • Leave Shapeshifting Evidence: Whether or not there is physical evidence of a shapeshift being left in a room after the Impostor morphs.

Our internal playtests have already become extremely chaotic from this change, and it’s a ton of fun trying to guess who’s who. Especially when you stumble upon two of the same Crewmate in one room! That’s it for this sneak peek!

There’s going to be a special event coming up VERY SOON with more information about release so please watch out for the news on our Twitter, Discord, or newsletter for when it’ll be happening.

Cheers,
Victoria

Among Us releases for PlayStation and Xbox consoles in December

On December 14, Among Us will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass.

The release comes with all previous content and on PlayStation consoles you will net a Ratchet & Clank cosmetic.

While the game releasing on these consoles is good news itself, there's even better news: the game allows for crossplay between systems so everyone can play together. And 4-15 player lobbies are supported with online multiplayer.

Epic finally admits Fortnite's Imposters mode was inspired by Among Us

Fortnite's Impostors mode was indeed inspired by the popular indie game Among Us, the game’s official Twitter account has admitted.

The initial tweet brought to attention the fact Fortnite's mode now contains a new Role Bias feature which allows you to decide between being an Impostor or Agent when playing Public and Private matches. The most recent update, v18.20, also added an Impostors playlist with open Voice Chat.

In today’s tweet, Epic said the mode was “inspired by the hit Among Us game,” and further tweeted it would like to work together with InnerSloth on something “fun” sometime.
