Among Us patch notes announce free new map "currently looking bigger than Polus"

If you're a fan of social deduction games, you'll probably have been getting stuck into plenty Among Us with your pals of late. Some recent beta testing indicated a key gameplay tweak was on the way - specifically, the ability to hide who's voted for who. Now, that update's come to the live game, along with a few other adjustments and announcements in a new set of patch notes - including an announcement of a brand-new map on the way.

Developer Innersloth has posted a blog on the multiplayer game's site announcing the "small patch and small roadmap". It is indeed a brief handful of tinkerings, but the changes are pretty key - such as the new "anonymous voting option", which means "all votes appear as grey" if you have that feature in play. While seemingly minor, it can make working out who's alright and who's sus in a given game a trickier task, throwing some more curveballs and surprises into the mix.

Alongside this, the notes detail there are some added task bar modes, giving you some more UI customisation options. Plus, the notes announce "comms sabotage clears the security logs" now, a bunch of bug fixes have landed, and two other additions are symbols for the wire fixing task and cosmetics to the meeting screen. Lovely stuff.

Among Us beta guide

Wondering how to get access to the Among Us beta? If you're anything like us, you'll have invested hours into running around every nook and cranny of each of the Among Us maps, completing every task with the utmost efficiency; connecting wires with a flick of the wrist, shooting down meteors without a single wasted shot, and starting up the reactor at the same agonising pace as always. You may have even branched out into playing other social deduction games with your friends, putting everything you've learned about lying your socks off to good use.

If you've been playing Among Us for a while, you may be wondering what new content is on its way, and when we can expect Among Us updates to stir things up a little bit. Originally, Among Us developer InnerSloth had planned to start working on Among Us 2, starting from scratch to create an Among Us sequel with all the new features their adoring fans were looking for. However, now InnerSloth has decided to concentrate on the original game, gradually adding new Among Us updates as and when they're ready.

They've also set up an Among Us beta branch to test out upcoming changes to the game - and there are new Among Us settings being trialled in beta before they're released to the main client. If you want to dive in and try out these new features and settings for yourself, here's how to access the Among Us beta branch.

Small Patch and Small Roadmap

Hello! It’s been pretty crazy for us here at Innersloth. Lots of things happening behind the scenes. We’ve got a small update here for you all.

Firstly, we want to be sure to talk about the cheating and hacking going on. It was pretty bad there for a bit, so Forte pushed out server changes really fast. They seemed to help a lot, but some cheats still work and now there are bugs too. There will be more server updates to fix all of this, but rushing anti-hacks is what caused the bugs, so cleaning things up is a slower process. Also rest assured that any threats made in the game are false and your devices and data are safe. If you see a hacker, ban them or find a different room.

Here's what this update contains:

- Added Anonymous Voting option

All votes appear as grey

- Added Task Bar Modes

Always mode works like normal

Meeting mode only updates the bar during meetings

Invisible mode removes the task bar entirely

- MIRA: Comms sabotage clears the security logs

-Added symbols to fix wires task

-Added cosmetics to meeting screen

-Various bug fixes

We have lots of things planned, but no real official roadmap. We play things pretty loose so we can tackle what we think the game needs most. We also don’t want to promise anything and then not provide it so it’s a scary thing to share. Here are some of the big things we are planning:

-Accounts. We’re hoping to get accounts into the game by December. This will allow players to report accounts that are toxic and/or hacking. They may be a bit barebones at first but things like friendslists will also come at a later date after launch.

-New Map. We’re hard at work on a new map (It’s Henry Stickmin themed!). This map is currently looking bigger than Polus! The map will contain plenty of new tasks and will be available for free to all players!

-Translations/Localization. The game is currently only translated into a few languages (and some of those translations are a bit rough). We’re planning on getting professional translations into multiple languages (More than we currently have, not ready to share quite which languages yet). To all the people offering to translate, thanks for reaching out, but we’ve got it under control!

-Colorblind support. This patch contains a first pass on colorblind support. We’ll continue monitoring it to see how it performs.

Mind you this isn’t the full extent of our plans. We’ve got lots of things we’re planning that we’re not quite ready to share yet! Thanks for sticking with us and enjoying the game! We’re going through some growing pains right now, but I am very excited for the future of Among Us!

Among Us devs are fixing those Trump 2020 hacks, but you'll need to be patient

Among Us has been plagued by hacks of late, bots that spam the chat with right-wing propaganda, and despawning that breaks the game. Developer InnerSloth is working on solutions for the social deduction game, but the fixes are taking time.

The hacks began earlier this week, when players started seeing the in-game chat fill up with messages of "Trump 2020", and links with the threat of hacking your device if you don't click-through. The bots responsible have infected a huge amount of rounds of the multiplayer game, leading to a lot of pressure on the developers, a team of three, to try and sort out a hotfix. Solutions are happening, with two waves of fixes having been released thus far.

"Alright, wave two of anti-hacks are going out. Wave one did fix impersonation, this is why the prominent hack now is just chat spam and mass despawn," one of the devs tweeted. "Wave two should fix both of these. We'll see where we need to go from there." The replies are a steady mix of those who're now playing bot-free, and many that aren't, so it's clear the studio still has a climb ahead of it.
