New Among Us update lets you hide who's voted for who

Among Us 2 might be dead and buried, but that's freed up developer InnerSloth to double down on updates for its OG megahit. Well, the social deduction game's latest patch has now arrived in beta, allowing PC players to get a sneak peek at some fresh features. The patch notes haven't yet been shared officially, but Attack of the Fanboy has reported on some major changes that have drastically altered the game.

For starters, you can now anonymise the voting process, making it impossible to find out who voted for who during an emergency meeting. Naturally, this forces everyone to be a bit more trusting while also allowing for some extra deception - just what we like to see.

The update also gives you the option to change when exactly the task bar appears during your game. By default, it will be set to 'always', but you can limit it to show only during 'meetings' or even 'never'. Beyond that, Among Us is now a little more accessible for colourblind players. Basically, wires have been given specific shapes that correspond to their colour, meaning you don't have to rely on their colour alone to tell them apart.

Among Us settings guide: the best settings for a fair game

What are the best Among Us settings? If you haven't already heard of Among Us, the traitorous stabbing sensation that has swept the nation (whichever nation you're in), you've probably been hiding in a vent for far too long. To get you up to speed; Among Us is a social deduction game where a group of astronauts on a shabby outpost or space station are trying to complete a number of tasks to win the game - meanwhile, some of them are dastardly imposters, on a mission to sabotage the crew.

Each round, between one and three imposters are randomly selected, and are given the ability to sabotage crucial parts of the ship, travel around using vents, and - most importantly - murder innocent crewmates in cold blood. Just about every setting in Among Us can be tweaked and customised in a private lobby; the impostors' kill cooldown, the crewmates' vision radius, and even how fast players can run. Yes, you can triple the movement speed and watch a bunch of tiny spacemen bouncing off the walls, but it doesn't make for the best Among Us games. For that, you'll need our guide to the ideal Among Us settings to ensure a balanced, fun game for your group to suit all lobby sizes and experience levels.

These recommended Among Us settings should be used as a starting point for your group, but if you find the games feel too easy or too difficult for either team, you can modify them slightly to redress the balance. Impostors winning too easily? Increase their kill cooldowns, or decrease the number of tasks crewmates need to do. Crewmates always winning? Try the opposite. If you've got an experienced group who know each other well, turn eject confirmation off, so you won't know the identity of ejected players. New players, however, might benefit from having visual tasks switched on, so they have more information to use when deducing whodunnit.

Among Us dev attacking game's hacking woes "from multiple angles"

Not for the first time this year, an unexpected indie hit has become overrun with cheaters. Fall Guys had its fair share of cheaters following mainstream success, and now the developer of Among Us is dealing with a similar problem.

A swift look at the social deduction game's Reddit page reveals swathes of complaints from players that they're running into cheaters. Sometimes it's people using more lowkey methods such as using Discord to tell their friends who killed them. More often than not, though, it's because someone is using a mod menu. They're woefully easy to come across, too. Several I found come for free and offer things such as the ability to kill without a cool down, super speed, and the ability to kill the imposter or guarantee you can play as one. Yikes.

If you need any reassurance, though, InnerSloth is looking into it. As Kotaku reports, the team is putting multiple features in place so they can attack the problem "from multiple angles so it can get better in many ways hopefully all at once".

Now we know what Final Fantasy 14 Among Us skins would look like

Final Fantasy 14 already has a whole menagerie of adorable critters. Now, you can add sneaky space beans to that list, thanks to some new fan designs that reimagine the online RPG game's classes as Among Us characters. The hugely popular social deduction game reached 1.5 million players just last month, with no signs of slowing down. We reckon it'd be even less likely to lose its place in the Steam charts with these White Mages to buff it, Dark Knights to tank for it, and Dragoons to dish out the hurt.

Reddit user Larvesta is behind the adorable, incredibly faithful design, which recreates 18 of Final Fantasy 14's character classes to bring them in line with the distinctive Among Us artstyle. We're not sure if the face mask is going to help the Blue Mage's chances to blend in, though. Some of the classes even come with tiny, Among Us-themed companions.

Reddit users already have their own ideas on how these new designs would play into Among Us. "Dragoon is sus, how did you go from O2 to Admin so fast?," writes Slyxdexic. "I jumped" is, of course, the mobile DPS classes' reply.
