Development Manifesto

As the year is coming to an end, the CM team thought it’d be a good idea to go over what we’ve done and what’s to come in 2021.

CM’s History

Crystal Maidens has come a long since it first released as an adult game back in December 2017 (and an even longer way if we consider what the game was on the mainstream!).

Nuka and Helen looked a bit different back then…


And so did many other things. We’ve since brought in:
- PvP and all of its associated changes and balance passes
- A third campaign
- A completely new UI
- A unified bundle/gacha tab to finally get rid of the multiple pop ups
- Weekly events
- Building rewards
- Set items
- Corrupted items
- Ultimate items
- Animations...shortly followed by a button to turn off said animations
- A Boss Campaign and its associated crafting!
- Masteries!
- A total of 123 maidens and counting!
- And so much more!

We’re happy to see that many of you have been sticking with us for quite a long time and we’re sincerely hoping you’ll be around for a lot longer.

[h2]2020[/h2]
2020 has been a difficult year for many, but the CM team has done everything it could to keep the game alive with its regular events while still addressing the things that need constant improvement. As December approaches, we’re now finally in a good enough position to start investing time in features we feel are necessary to keep the game sustainable for a long time.

For this Christmas release, we’ll be releasing a completely revamped Daily Quest system with clear objectives that should not impede on your regular activities. These quests will be designed to drive players through most of our core features and help onboard our new players better.

Alongside the Daily Quest feature, we’ll also be releasing a “First 30 days” login feature with 2 exclusive free maidens as well as an exclusive 4-piece set item. This feature will be a 1-time thing for all existing and new players and will grant one reward per day for the first 30 days a user logs in. These rewards are separate and different from what you might expect from your current daily rewards.

Finally, the Christmas release will end the year strong with an extended crafting event to keep you busy throughout the holidays.

[h3]2021[/h3]
The future of Crystal Maidens will be primarily focused on getting out of the Masteries beta and doing another pass on PvP balance while accounting for masteries.

Our goal is to end the Masteries beta somewhere around February. In order for us to be satisfied with the feature, we must first revisit the curve of shards needed to gain levels. We’ll also address some of the useless masteries as well as the overtuned ones.

In the meantime, we’ll be working on a list of features for PvP, many of which were suggested by you guys and your overwhelming feedback:
- Reduce the points necessary to reach Diamond.
- Change the range of opponents to be favored towards people ranked higher than you (instead of +/-50 it would be around +50/-15)
- Add multipliers to PvP tickets won for attacking win streaks.
- Limit the amount of points you can win from attacking (to discourage low elo farming or excessive play)
- Earn/lose points based on the division of your opponent rather than their rank.
- Reduce the inactivity period to 1 month (from 2) so that inactive players no longer destroy you as you’re climbing.
- Rebalance the curve of HP for guardians at higher levels so that they’re tougher to kill.
- Limit the amount of revives per maiden when attacking in PvP.
- Add a series of defense buffs. This would allow you to choose a buff based on the style of your defense team (or based on the map you chose).

Erection Day Crafting Event!



**Event**
A new crafting event has just begun featuring April and Karen! Help the people of Freedonia save their precious Erection Day! Collect ingredients and craft powerful maidens and items.

The event ends on December 1st and the crafting period ends on December 3rd!

**Anti Cheat**
A new anti cheat system has been implemented. Those of you who love to datamine may see a value and feel compelled to share said value. This value is manually variable and as such, knowing this value does not mean you are safe. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then you are most likely not concerned :)

As of now, we will be notified whenever someone automates an excessive amount of PvP fights and warnings will be sent out. Failure to play fairly can lead to a permanent ban.

We hope this will dissuade the few who thought exploiting the game to gain an advantage was fun for anyone.

**Balance:**
We are combing through all of your feedback regarding recent PvP changes and we will see if there are things we can change to improve how it feels for everyone. Note that climbing the ladder too easily was always a concern for us. It made putting effort into a defense team meaningless because people would simply skip the powerful teams and those who did more fights than others would climb from sheer numbers. Getting to Diamond, Master and God should be on the merit of the power of your team and your ability to adapt to defense teams you're facing, not your knowledge of who to avoid fighting entirely.

**Bug Fixes:**
- Fixed a bug where the PvP ticket bounty would display in history even for matches you lost.
- Fixed a bug that caused exhausted maidens to sometimes appear as not exhausted.
- Fixed a bug that allowed you to start a match with exhausted maidens and they would not appear in your team.
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from changing your guardian if you had already searched for a new set of opponents in PvP.
- Fixed a bug that caused your team to not update in combat if you had just changed your maidens in PvP.
- Made further improvements to targeting for melee maidens.
- Fixed Protective Spells mastery.
- Fixed Savage Spells mastery.
- Fixed Enraged Debuff mastery.
- Fixed Burn Damage mastery.
- Fixed a bug that prevented Astrid from attacking if she was being attacked by multiple enemies at once.

Isabella Character Event

**Event**
A new character event has just begun featuring Isabella! Complete objectives to unlock her and help the community with the global objective to earn exclusive rewards!

The event ends on November 13th.

**Known Issues:**
- Due to an issue with the masteries, the following masteries do not currently work: Bleeding Damage (Marksman), Last Resort Empowerment (Engineer), Defiant Debuff (Engineer), Enraged Immunity (Warrior), Knockout Attack (Marksman) and Weakening Attack (Marksman). As such they have been locked until next release. Our work for the beta of the Mastery feature continues and we hope to bring you improved masteries as well as entirely new ones soon!

**Features:**
- Added a grey crystal in the pre-battle tabs to indicate the presence of classless enemies.
- Changed the PvP tickets earned based on the division of your opponent and whether it's an attack or defense win. The breakdown is as follows:
Bronze: 30 tickets per attack victory. 100 tickets per defense victory.
Silver: 70 tickets per attack victory. 100 tickets per defense victory.
Gold: 80 tickets per attack victory. 150 tickets per defense victory.
Platinum: 90 tickets per attack victory. 175 tickets per defense victory.
Diamond: 100 tickets per attack victory. 200 tickets per defense victory.
Master: 125 tickets per attack victory. 225 tickets per defense victory.
God: 150 tickets per attack victory. 250 tickets per defense victory.
- When getting a new set of PvP opponents, you must now fight all 3 before getting new opponents.
- You can now change your PvP team at any time to better counter your opponents.
- Added a passive for Hikaru: 200% extra crit damage when health is under 30%.
- Added a passive for Kohani: 20% damage vs Fire/Water/Nature maidens when health is under 50%.
- Added a passive for Morticia: Every time she kills someone, she increases her damage dealt for 6 seconds.

**Balance:**
- Refreshing your maidens in PvP now costs 50 crystals (up from 20). This number used to increase with every refresh in a day and was broken so we opted for a fixed amount long ago. However the number was so low that it allowed for some pretty extreme PvP spam which was a large advantage for people who were abusing scripts/automation. Remember that this is not allowed and we'll be cracking down on people abusing this in PvP soon.

**Bug Fixes:**
- Maintenance rewards should contain the missing rewards to compensate for the daily PvP rewards.
- Fixed an issue where an item you just upgraded would not be displayed as upgraded unless you refreshed your inventory.
- Fixed an issue related to Windows regional settings that prevented users in certain regions from collecting daily PvP rewards and/or viewing their PvP history.
- Fixed an issue related to Windows regional settings that caused guardian shards in the PvP shop to skyrocket in price.
- Fixed the missing soft cap for cooldown reduction.
- Fixed the missing cap on reduced respawn cooldown.
- Fixed several more issues related to masteries malfunctioning for both attack and defense maidens. We are still continuing to fix other known issues as the beta continues. Be sure to report them in Steam forums or on discord. We're keeping a close eye on those.
- Fixed the unintended lower values of the Ultimate Godly Gift and Ultimate Astrid's Winter Edge.
- Fixed an issue with the AI for melee maidens.
