Surf Check

To check out the surf, now you can climb to the top of the towers, when you reach the very top platform the breaking waves will be visible from that spot. The set waves will only break when you are playing in single player mode. When you reach the view spot at the very top of each tower you will be able to see all the breaking spots in that area. This will make it easier to know where to go to get waves, and makes for really cool scenic views.
There are currently four towers, one platform, and one spot at the top of the big rocks that allow for surf checks. One at the tiki hut, one near the village, one on the tiki side of the channel, and one across the channel from the main island. You can also stand on the platform across the field from the tiki hut or climb the big rocks at the beginner peak break to check the surf.

Fins (flippers) were added to the body boarders. Different colors for player one and player two. Now she can get a good kick into the waves.

The surfers have been assigned to give more and better tips to you about surfing and where to go next. You can follow the advice they give. Starting at the tiki hut, they will recommend the next spot to try, and the surfers at the next spot will continue to recommend the next spot. They will guide you through from easy waves to gradually more difficult waves, and recommend keys to use and tricks to try to surf better and use all the functions and features the game has to offer. You can follow along with their advice to advance and learn surfing tips, or explore the open world how you like. So be sure to paddle up to surfers and press "talk" for help with game play.

The contest area at the jetties is being developed. The stage area is being built up. Some of the Olympic pros have arrived and stored boards in the huts, and the contest trophies are displayed.

The esc menu has been made easier to use with a mouse. The player should be able to get onto land more smoothly. Board spray has been changed a little.

A live play event will be announced soon.
Set the date on your calendar for March 25 at 10am pacific for the Steam Remote Play Together Event. I'll be streaming live on Steam and would like to have some visitors.
Steam announced that they would allow for a second player to join and play even if the second player does not have a Steam account.
Currently you have to have a steam account and be friends with a game owner on Steam to be invited to play. The new method will allow for another player to join and play without having to have a Steam account.
This would be really great for this game, since a lot of surfers that would like to play don't have accounts set up on Steam. You will be able to invite your friends to play and they won't have to set up an account on Steam to play. More to come in the announcement.

Temporary Test File

test version of build that will be released to public soon.

Surf Or Body Board

Body boarding is not the same as surfing. It uses the same controls as surfing but the board is shorter and faster, and turns faster. kick into a wave, then position and slide along. Easier to get tubed, and easier to spin and tun, fast and crazy, and harder to fall. You can start out body boarding and learn some tricks, and then switch to surfing where learning to surf is easier. Or after surfing if you'd like to try something different, switch to the body boarder and learn new tricks, tubes, and spins.

Fixed minor bugs on MAC and Wave foam

The button M for map on the mac version was not working for displaying the map during game play. The PC version is unchanged.

One of the waves had foam that was not set correctly and has been fixed.

More Realistic Surfing With Airs

Okay, so the surfing has been changed. Everything is still the same as before, you can pump for speed, take off at an angle, and do carving and slashing turns, and cutbacks, but now you can land airs.

AIRS
When you are going vertical, press "slide" and you will slide like before. However, if you get enough speed and go off the lip of the wave, hold down "slide" for a while and you can land the air. Yip de doo. Hold it down too long, and you will fly away, land too far from the wave, and soon wipe out. I'm keeping with generally realistic surfing simulation, so it's not too easy to do an air. You need a lot of speed, which you can't get with any wave, and to master airs, you really need a good touch. Once you get it, it is not too difficult, but it's definitely not automatic. The idea is to do it smoothly, and at the right time, on the right wave, and try and land it and continue surfing. Which I think is how it works. Rotation is based on how you are turning when you start the move.

CUTBACKS
I added features for a sharp cutback and reduced the way that slides are done. Now, if you are going vertical and press slide, you will slide the same as before, however, if you are less than vertical, press slide and instead of sliding, you will turn sharply back. The longer you hold "slide" the sharper your turn will be. This simulates a more realistic cutback by planting your foot and really pushing into your cutback, laying the board on it's rail and getting a hard sharp turn, and all this just by holding the "slide" button.

EVERYTHING IS THE SAME
If you haven't used the "slide" button, then you should notice little difference from before. But if you use the slide button, then you will see that the players surf quite differently from before. It may take some practice to get used to it, but I think it adds another level to the surfing and the goal of reacting closer to realistic surfing. Let me know if you agree, or if it makes no difference, or if you don't like it.

FALLING
In keeping with realism and simulation, falling has been adjusted to make the game more realistic. The surfer now will slow more quickly if he is not maneuvering for speed, such as pumping, or turning on the wave, or when doing too long of a bottom turn. Though there is a better trim angle for getting slotted, and cruising, too much surfing on the flats will now result in quickly stalling the board and make it more difficult to recover speed. It has also been made so that if you hit a steep lip, you will get fly swatted into a wipeout, as you should be in real surfing. So don't try and do turns into steep lips. These are all slight adjustments where the attempt is to simulate reality, so let me know where I'm missing the point and what is working too, and I'll will continue to tweak the surfing until is really works well.

MAP
The map has been updated in the style of a ski slope map, since ski and surf are both similar, then many surfers ski and vise versa. The difficulty levels of the breaks have been added to the map, with blue circle being beginner breaks, green square being intermediate, and black diamond advanced breaks. All add to the menu to pop up at the press of a button.

SECRET SPOT
Now that there's a map there needs to be some breaks that are not on the map. Here's a pic of one. It's not so secret though, since the break near the tiki house has been made slower, this break was moved, and is the original one down the beach from the tiki house.
