Search For Surf The 3D Open World 2P Surfing Game Has Full Controller Support

It's Summer Time - Go Surfing

As I write this, Search For Surf is on sale at it's lowest price ever for the 2020 summer sale. It will not last long and you may never see it at this low price again, so get it now before it reaches it's final development and save big.

Controller support has been added to the PC version of the Search For Surf 3D Open world surfing game with a contest option. Since two player split screen play, and contests have been introduced into the game, it is way more convenient to use controllers to play. Now, Search For Surf has been updated so that you don't need to use a mouse or keyboard while you play. Two Xbox controllers are recommended for PC. However, Mac still requires a keyboard and mouse for the menus.
Instant camera view changes, jet ski operation, and quick access to start a contest are just a few of the advantages of the new updated version.

In other news, the demo has been removed from Steam since it was not providing the awesomeness of the full version and it's recent updates. Let me know if you were enjoying the demo and are upset that it is no longer available.

Demo To Be Removed

I plan on removing the demo from the Steam Store during the next sale event, so that more time can be spent making the game, instead of updating the demo and building for MAC and PC every update. The retail game has been updated over the last couple of months with some great new features, such as two player split screen contest, and it is no longer practical to keep a demo updated with the rapid improvements each time a feature in the game is added. It seems like players of the demo are not getting a good experience unless the demo is updated along with the game, so I will rely on the Steam return policy, and let interested players buy the game, and return the game before two hours of play or two weeks with no questions asked, instead of providing an out of date demo. Thanks for your interest in the game, and I hope this doesn't inconvenience enthusiastic players of the demo.

First Ever Two Player Contest Mode (for a surfing game that is)

Along with the other updates described below, there is now two player split screen play with contests. Contests can be played at any time or place in the game.
Contests are scored based on wave scores and duration of contest. You can choose from 1 min to 30 min for a contest and count from 1 to 10 waves in the score total. So for example if you choose 2 wave scores then all the waves you catch during the contest are calculated but only the highest two scores will be added for your contest score. The scoring criteria is shown on the screen when you start a contest.
You ride the same waves at the same time, so chose the best waves, and do the best tricks, and surf better for a high score. As long as you catch a wave by the time the timer reaches zero your score counts.

This is a really fun way to play, and now your practice sessions and surfing ability leads to a new purpose; to slaughter your friends in a friendly surf contest during game play. Try it, it's great.

All the regular features of the game are still available for single player, and you'll need two xbox controllers to play 2 player. The tiki hut is temporarily closed until the next update, so you won't be able to change characters for a while, but you'll be having so much fun that you really won't notice. More character choices will be available soon.

Here are some more of the highlights of this upgrade:

  • Schwacks have been improved. The physics has been improved so you can hit the lip harder and come down faster.
  • There is a cheat button "Y" which puts you at the takeoff spot ready to catch the next wave for the 3 beginner breaks. Great for beginners and practicing surfing because it puts you almost on the wave.
  • First Person camera is now automatic and easy to use. Point the direction you plan to go, takeoff and go, the camera will follow now with no need to adjust it while surfing.
  • The players shorts are no longer see through. Nostalgic for the old players? Too bad these guys have %@$'s.

Can't wait to see your comments and post videos of two player play. It should get interesting now.[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

No Longer Alone In The Lineup

Soon you'll get to talk surf to the others, but for now it's you and them in the lineup. Other surfers have been added, which will help you line up with waves when you're starting out, and in the future will help with surfing tips and suggestions. Set waves are more obvious and it's easier to find other breaks, if there are surfers there.

Huge change in the land part of the game. Some people around, and new villages, all the islands have been redone with pretty landscaping, and the breaks have all moved. Sets the scene for some extra land mini games, land action, and jet ski fun.

The UI has been improved to make it easier. So don't forget to look at the writing on the screen. Hit esc for the menu shortcuts. More obvious button map for beginners.

Camera views are available. Check the menu for zoom (hit esc). F for changing camera, or Rt Top Front with an XBox controller. There is now fully functional first person with camera control, and an easy far away view for exploring and checking out spots, as well as for surfing if you prefer the far away view. The familiar default view is still there for shredding and photo opportunities.

Wave score, if you haven't seen it. Get scored on each wave and try and beat your best score.

Instant jet ski. Now you can drive back out to the lineup. Press P or Upper Left Front on Xbox controller, anywhere when you're in the water, and your jet ski is magically summoned on top of your head.

The game is progressing and improving and the possibilities are being realized.

Check it out if you haven't visited for a while, and leave a great review on the page.

First Update Now Released

Search For Surf first update since the early access release. If you haven't visited Search For Surf now is a good time to visit. If you haven't played then it's on sale now until Dec 3 so hurry and buy it.

The good news
Two new surf breaks added. There's a slow easy wave at the village. Good for learning. Waves like the beginner area near the Tiki Hut but longer and with some set waves.

The other break is a really long right off the lighthouse. Find the lighthouse and you'll find the waves. Hint: follow the dolphins.

Here's what you're really gonna like:

First person camera. It's challenging but really cool. Hit the F key to toggle through the different views. Pro cam is first person but it's kind of hard to control. When you get good, try it. It's really good but takes some skill to control and get right. Works on lefts and rights. I recommend going to the lighthouse and trying it on the long lighthouse right.

For Beginners: There's an easy view. Press f until the view is way outside. It zooms out and is easier to see where waves are and makes it easier to catch waves.

The other thing you're really gonna like....Press P. What's that? The jet ski is on my head. That's right, a jet ski free retrieval button. Go anywhere and your jet ski is there at the press of a button.

Paddling is faster. Paddling has been improved and it's now faster. Paddling is faster.

Catching a wave is easier. You still have to line up to catch a wave, but now hold down space bar and you will pop up to standing as soon as you get up to speed. No more guessing. Believe me, it's easier. Did I mention tapping up arrow makes you paddle faster?
