The Unliving l Beta Branch Update!

Greetings, Necromancers.

The second beta-patch is here, and it brings several notable additions: Late-game system - Vow of Deicide, and most excitingly - much requested ability re-rolls and horde optimizations!

Vow of Deicide
Vow of Deicide is a system we've implemented that will allow you to raise the level of difficulty, after the Necromancer reaches end-game stages - and you can even get rewards for it!

For now, it is the bare bones of a system, and will plainly increase enemy power-level. We are still going to work on updating this system, and include something more unique to difficult runs! With regard to rewards, there is a one-time recourse pack for first completion on every difficulty, and an ever-lasting multiplicator for all meta-currencies.

Re-roll in Essences
Now you will have access to a little more instruments, to form the exact spell you need.

Essence result can now be re-rolled, spending one re-roll charge! Additional charges can be earned by unlocking more spells in Citadel, or inside the run - by discarding essences.

Horde Optimizations
We worked hard on different aspects of how the army of undead work, and have made quite a lot of technical progress in response to all issues you, the community, are reporting.

And more noticeably - now every melee unit have some sort of dash or a jump. Of course regular skeletons will never be on par with mighty werewolves, but now they have a line rush move, to get them to the front line, rather than stuck behind archers!

In this update there have been a lot of internal changes of how all things work as well as a lot of small QOL changes, and some explanation attached to things that were unclear before!

We've added a tracker to display how close the Necromancer is to finding the next shard of his soul. So for now, we are releasing this patch in beta-branch. If you download beta-branch and complete the survey - we would be so thankful, as this will help inform future updates to the main branch.

To access the Beta:
  • Go to your Steam library by navigating Library > Games.
  • Right-click on The Unliving & select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Betas tab.
  • Select the Public Experimental branch from the drop-down menu.

The Unliving l Crucible of Calling Beta Access Update

Hello Necromancers!

We are presenting: Crucible of Calling.

It is a new station in Necromancer Citadel, that contains a new progression system. There, you can upgrade your undead army and Necromancer in the unique way you want to.

Choosing different upgrades - you can make a composition that matches the style you want to play a game - if you love spellcasting - you can make spells worldshattering-powerfull, at the cost of everything else, and if you don't - all this power could be channeled in undeads, to make them mighty hulks, or maybe you want to find balance. You even can hog all power for Necromancer himself, who decided that casters are fragile and need an army?

But there are a few things about this patch, considering of how big this rework is. This is change from flat progression to ramping-up progression, so the deeper game goes - the more things are rebalanced. And we are cautious about how it all will work - in gameplay terms, and in technical terms, so an update will go on beta-branch, before it will be on live.

To access beta:

- Go to your Steam library by navigating Library > Games.
- Right-click on The Unliving & select Properties.
- Navigate to the Betas tab.
- Select Public Beta from the drop-down menu.

As always - your feedback will be invaluable help for us to keep making the game you want to, please let us know how you like the direction of this update.

After testing, we are expecting it to go live shortly in the new year.

And secondly - Crucible of Calling is the first part of a complex system, for now there will be no deep late game, because you will eventually become more powerful than puny humans, but in upcoming patches they will scrape together some Zolar blessings to become formidable opposition.

The Unliving l Patch 1.3

Hello Necromancers!

Thank you for your ongoing support, as we continue to work on The Unliving! 🧟

We have a new update ready and live! This includes many technical fixes - some minor, some major, and most importantly a fix for a loading crash bug!

We understand that these technical fixes aren't too exciting — but we have updates coming up, and are working on gameplay additions, and some requested features! One of which is an upgrade system, allowing players to flexibly create a build, for any gameplay style. This will be introduced via a beta-branch for testing before the end of the year, and will go live at the start of next year! We'll share more soon, so stay tuned for more info!

Patch Notes:
  • Fixed an major issue when loading locations, when the game could freeze.
  • Fixed an issue where some debuffs in Swamp location were not being displayed in the player panel.
  • Fixed an issue where Arkhe currency was incorrectly credited for the resurrected undead as a result of the race.
  • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to unlock the Flesh Hive rune in the Necromancer Citadel.
  • Fixed an issue where Karius was not available for interaction.
  • Fixed an issue in the gamepad where pressing the action key also caused a menu bug report.
  • Fixes in cutscenes with the third boss.
  • Fixed a bug with boss music not turning on when fighting bosses.
  • Fixed logic of Majra's dialogues related to the purchase of certain unlocks in the Necromancer's Citadel.
  • Speed up game loading.
  • Piles of gold are picked up automatically after a while.

Hello Necromancers!

Thank you for your ongoing support, as we continue to work on The Unliving! 🧟

Our top priority right now is technical integrity and stability of the game. Thanks to the numerous and detailed reports from our fantastic community, we've made significant progress towards this goal! We are also currently working on optimization — you should hopefully notice some improvements in loading times as a result of this patch. 🛠️

Whilst working on various bug fixes, we are also hard at work on some new content. By the time we release the next update, hopefully there will be something new for your Necromancer army! 👀
