Star Trek Online players remember Christopher Plummer

Players in Star Trek Online are coming together to pay tribute to the late actor Christopher Plummer, who passed away this week at the age of 91. Plummer had been cast in a prominent role in one of the Star Trek movies, and the community in the MMO game is honouring his performance and legacy.

On Friday, the space game's official Twitter acknowledged Plummer's passing, writing: "In the hands of a lesser actor, General Chang might have been a stereotype, a one note character. But Christopher Plummer brought a gravitas and a respect to the man that defined Klingons for ages to come. Rest in peace." Since then, players from across Star Trek Online have been hosting send offs, gathering at the in-game murals that acknowledge the cast and crew of the various TV shows and movies.

One such obvious spot is Qo'nos, home planet of the Klingons, where a number of players stood in line holding torches for a moment. Plummer appeared as General Chang, the main antagonist in 1991's Star Trek IV: The Undiscovered Country. The movie is one of the more liked Star Trek films, and as it was the last time the central crew of the original series came together, it holds a certain soft spot for many fans. He reprised the role for 2000's Star Trek: Klingon Academy, a flight sim set in the universe.

Star Trek Online: House Reborn Now Live!

The Great Houses splintered instead, shattering the empire into warring factions, looking out for themselves. Her brother, T'kuvma, gave everything to unite the Klingon Empire, and in one fell swoop, J'ula has undone all of it. Now, she must venture within to find the answers, at the holiest of Klingon worlds, Boreth. Journey with her there, and discover what lies in the heart of Grethor. Will the Empire be saved, or finally destroyed?

We're proud to announce that House Reborn is now live on PC! Experience an epic story through two new episodes starring J.G. Hertzler, Robert O'Reilly, Rekha Sharma, and our two newest cast members. Sam Witwer is stepping into the shoes of Kenneth Mitchell, taking on the role of Tenavik under Ken's direction. And Mary Chieffo is joining the story as well, reprising her role of L'Rell from the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery. What role could L'Rell have to play in this tale? You'll have to dive into House Reborn to find out.

But that's not all. With the release of this new update, we've completed our rework of the Klingon Starting Experience. Begin a new Klingon character now to experience the classic story, brought to the modern era with redesigned levels, updated character and environment art, new cutscenes, new voiceovers, and more. For the first time, you'll be able to experience that story as a Klingon from the Discovery era. It's the perfect time to be a Klingon - not least of which because the Klingon Recruitment Event begins today as well. Your new Klingon will be embroiled in a mysterious story, hunting down Enemies of the Empire for a shadowy benefactor. Play through the game as a Klingon, and unlock new Recruit rewards, like an exclusive T6 Ship, the M'Chla Refit! And of course, when you reach level 65 with any KDF character, you'll unlock the ability to fly every ship in the game across your entire account.

On top of all of that, it's our 11th Anniversary! Our game has officially been going strong for more than a decade now, and we want to celebrate with you. Join in the Anniversary Event through playing much of the new story content, or through playing the classic Omega Molecule Stabilization Game. Doing so will allow you to progress towards unlocking the first ever ship designed in concert between the Klingons and Romulans, the Temer-class Raider. And the Picard Zhat Vash Lock Box is here, giving you access to all kinds of twisted Romulan tech.

We're so excited to shout "Qapla'!" with you, Captains! See you on the honorable battlefield.

We're giving away Dreadnoughts to celebrate Star Trek Online: Rise of Discovery!

As any commander will know, the Dreadnoughts in Star Trek are what it's really all about - starships that get their name from their formidable size. That's why we're giving away a bunch of them as we celebrate the arrival of Star Trek Online's latest and huge update, Rise of Discovery. It arrived on PC back on May 14 so if you haven't jumped in yet you better get on that.

Excitingly, this expansion is led by Rehka Sharma and Jason Isaacs as Commander Ellen Landry and Captain Gabriel Lorca respectively. They'll take you on an adventure that spans two episodes, exploring the pasts of Landry and Lorca, as you learn the fate of the U.S.S. Buran.

But back to the topic of big ships, this update allows you to fly the most powerful ships in the game - the T6 Starships - at any level, as they become more powerful as you do. Seems appropriate that we're giving away Dreadnoughts now then, huh? Speaking of which...

Star Trek Online's new season House Shattered launches on PC today

Star Trek Online devs mis-advertised latest content bundle, apologise for any confusion

Star Trek Online: House Shattered Now Live!

Following the events of June’s House Divided, Captains found themselves on the run, accused of a crime they didn’t commit. Chancellor J’mpok of the Klingon Empire has gone mad with power and jealousy, partnering with Aakar, Gowron’s grandfather, to devastate the peaceful planet of Khitomer. Attempting to destroy all his enemies at once, he framed this crime on the renegade Klingon Matriarch J’ula, legendary General Martok, and you. Now, this ramshackle alliance must find a way to clear their names and try and set things right. With help from the mysterious Witch of Nimbus III, Adet'pa, they might do it, but even that won’t set everything right. If J’mpok is removed from power, there is nothing standing in J’ula’s way of seizing control – and she may be no better than the Mad Chancellor.

House Shattered is our latest story update to Star Trek Online. In it, you’ll find a brand new episode, “Partisans,” where Captains can team up with Martok, J’ula, Adet'pa and the crew of the Orion Syndicate ship The Coldstar, in a race to find the evidence to clear their names. J.G Hertzler as Martok, Robert O’Reilly as Aakar, and Rekha Sharma as Adet'pa all return to Star Trek Online in this brand new adventure that advances the story began in House Divided.

In addition, a brand new Task Force Operation, Synth Wave, takes Captains to the infamous invasion of Mars from Star Trek: Picard. With Utopia Planetia’s android workforce in revolt, how many lives can you save? This scenario brings a brand new gameplay style, with an ever-shrinking environment and wave after wave of Synth ships closing in.

With House Shattered, we’re also adding a brand new ship to the Infinity Lock Box, the Mirror Warship. This Constitution-class ship is overhauled by technology from the Mirror Universe, and turned into a devastating flagship of the Empress. Five new items from Star Trek: Enterprise are joining the Lobi Store, allowing access to long awaited items like the M.A.C.O. Rifle.

The Experimental Upgrade System is live today as well. For a limited time, everyone in the game gets one of these tokens for free, allowing them to add a Device Slot, a Console Slot, and a new Trait Slot to their favorite T5-U or T6 ships. This brand new system brings exciting new options to your favorite ships. Additional tokens are available in the Ultra Rare tier of the Phoenix Prize Pack, and the Zen Store.

Finally, as part of the Year of Klingon, we’ve updated the Warzone Mission Arc for Klingon characters. Play through two completely remade maps, gameplay improvements across all missions, brand new cutscenes, and the debut of Shannon Cochran as the voice of Lady Sirella. Female Klingon Captains will find new head options available, as well.

We can’t wait to see you fight to clear your names, Captains. Qapla!

Star Trek Online's new season House Shattered launches on PC today

Star Trek Online is getting a major new expansion on PC this very day. Titled 'House Shattered', the MMORPG's latest chapter sees the ongoing Klingon war continue to rage, with the addition of new content, characters, and even a new store - as of today (October 6), Star Trek Online will also be available on the Epic Games Store, alongside Steam and Arc Games. Plus, some of the new faces - or, rather, voices - joining Online for its new season might be familiar to fans, as some Star Trek veterans join the cast of House Shattered.

Star Trek Online: House Shattered brings an all-new episode to the online RPG game's story called 'Partisans', developer Cryptic Studios and publisher Perfect World announce in a press release. This sees players head to Nimbus to seek refuge, find Captain Adet'Pa, and try to put a stop to J'mpok and Aakar, who are trying to hunt players down with the help of some Mycelial weaponry they've pinched.

Adet'Pa is voiced by Rekha Sharma, who previously played Commander Ellen Landry in both the Star Trek: Discovery show and last year's Rise of Discovery update, while general Aakar is voiced by The Next Generation's Robert O'Reilly. General Martok, who also features, is brought to life by Deep Space Nine's JG Hertzler.
