Development Update - Huge UI Update!
Greetings, Kebab Lovers!
We are finally here with another dev update. This one is going to be about UI/UX rework we have done after the steam next fest.
Before jumping into the topic, I wanted to share that we are planning to organize a Q&A event live on our Discord channel!
During the Q&A event, we will be answering to all of your questions about the game and the game’s future. We will be announcing the date soon. So don’t forget to join our discord server if you are interested!
As we announced in our Discord server, Kebab Simulator’s early access release is postponed to early 2023. This is because we want to be able to offer you an immersive experience and be sure that you will be having a very smooth multipayer experience.
This is the longest dev update we have published so far. So please let us know how do you like our new UI in the comments. You are also welcomed to drop your suggestions in our discord channel. We would love to see you there. Hope to see you in much longer dev updates!
Back to the topic! UI... As mentioned before, we have been making changes on huge part of our game’s UI. Despite we think new UI looks way more better now, it's not the actual reason. It also made a huge impact on the functionality and became much more player friendly.
Main Menu
Our first UI rework applies to ALL of the main menu UI. Yes, We re-designed them all over again...
First reason for this is to have a consistent UI color palette for all of the main menu UI (which we didn’t have before). On the other hand, making them compatible and easy to navigate through other game modes which we will be having in the future.
Say goodbye to book UI
If you tried our demo, you may remember that we had what we call a "game book" which had the huge portion of in-game UI functionality in it. Well, it doesn't exist anymore... Actually, we were pretty happy with a book themed UI. But there were some critical issues with that book UI which were giving us some hard time.
The biggest challenge comes with such a UI theme is the expandability. We had our base system running just fine on that UI. But when it comes to adding new functionality, it quickly came out that it is so hard to extend that UI and apply what we had in mind on two seperate piece of blank space which are being the pages of the book. It was so time consuming to come up with a perfect UX design that we can apply to a book themed UI.
What we had come up with is to replace the book with a tablet which is often used in simulation games. This way, when we are in need of some free space for a new mechanic, we are just going to add another application to our tablet. And that's it!
Item & Ingredient Info
Todays last rework goes to item and ingredient info indicators. Before the update, we had a simple plain text displaying the name of the item which you are hovering. Now, we have a small pop-up which contains every possible info about that item in itself. Looks better huh?

And that's it for another dev update. Me and my teammates are doing our best to create the most enjoyable experience we could. We apologize for the expectations for this year. But hopefully 2023 will be a great year for Kebab Simulator.
If you would like to contribute to our game or see what's going on, please don't forget to join us on discord. We really would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions for the game!
