Happy 5-Years Anniversary

Today Casual Desktop Game celebrates its 5th year on Steam!

When I published the game 5 years ago, I didn't expect it to become as popular as it is today. But I'm very happy that this fan remake is so well recieved by its community.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports the game - whether it's playing, upvoting, commenting, reviewing or even recommending it.

Here is to another 5 years! And beyond!

Let's celebrate by smashing some virtual desktops and upload some screenshots!

Happy destruction!

Casual Desktop Game Update 2025

Hey fellow desktop destroyers!

I am with great pleasure to announce that the big update of Casual Desktop Game for 2025 is now ready and published!

I know that I originally wanted to wait for 14th of February, but this update is too big and important to postpone when it is already ready!

So, that's why I've published the update just now!

First of all I want to thank everyone who has been so supportive of this small retro project. I am aware of all the nice people upvoting any news I post, commenting on news I post and simply just playing the game!

The game wouldn't be where it is now with all you guys! You have kept me motivated to improve the game and thus I am pleased to provide you with the update 2025! You deserve this great update! Take it as a christmas gift. ;-)

Now what has actually changed?

  • Fireworks tool was greatly improved! It's now a damageable tool and creates huge varying explosions!
  • New stamps! Finally I found some stamps with permissive licenses, so please enjoy them!
  • New colorgun decals! Enjoy the improved color decals of the colorgun
  • My own workshop items are now included in the game by default
  • Hit indicators! Combat entities will now display a hit indicator when taking damage
  • More teams! There are now up to 3 possible teams available
  • Windowed fullscreen! The game won't hang when you accidentally move your cursor out of just leave focus of the game
  • More different sounds and explosions
  • Default backgrounds! Check out the included background images
  • Bugfixes and improvements

I hope you'll have much fun with this new update! I hope you'll like it and please report if anything doesn't work as expected.

I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year! I'm looking forward for the next 5 years and let's see what great things are to come for the 10 year anniversary.

Sneak Peek of the new Fireworks tool

Hey guys,

in the light of the upcoming anniversary update, I figured I wanted to share a nice change with you all.

One of the cool updates also affects the fireworks tool, which is included by default within the game.

Until now the tool was, frankly, very boring and unspectacularly. But not anymore. I improved the fireworks tool greatly and I believe that you will like it, too. At least I hope so. :)

Honestly before the update, I considered removing the fireworks tool from the game, because I really found it bad and was afraid it could put a bad light on the game. I really wanted to improve it for a long time, but it was hard to find any suitable sprites. At best I wanted to have a complete animation as a spritesheet for various fireworks explosions, but that did not work out without financial involvement.

BUT fortunately I eventually went a different path for the improvement: I used some free laser sprites and animated the new explosions programmatically.

And I have to say that the fireworks tool has now become one of my favorite tools!

But see for yourself. Here is a small demo video of the upcoming new fireworks tool:

I'm really excited for the 5-Year-Anniversary update on Feburary 14th, 2025! Stay tuned!
