The Tenants Development Update #14

Hello there, Landlords!

In the last development update we talked about the structure of Wondersville and mentioned how you’ll be able to hire Agents to take care of your tenants in the districts you’re currently not residing in. Today we’d like to shed more light on this feature as Agents play an important role in The Tenants once you’re ready to expand your rental empire.

Upon unlocking the second district you’ll be guided through the process of hiring your first agent. You’ll find a list of potential Agents in a dedicated app on your Phone. Agents come and go with a set of stats that all play part in how they handle your business:
  • Empathy corresponds to how amicable the Agent is and how well they resolve conflicts with or between your tenants. The higher the empathy the happier your tenants are and the less issues they generate.
  • Dutifulness relates to how attentive your Agent is. Those who lack it will be slower to respond to the various events happening in the district. They might also not always pay your bills on time.
  • Salesmanship pertains to how well the Agent handles the finances. After all, things go wrong all the time and those who are really good with money are able to solve issues without much impact on your budget. Should you decide to let them take care of lease renegotiations, they’ll be able to carve out the best deal for you.

You probably won’t find many people who are really good at all of those things, so prioritizing the aspects you deem important and scouting the market for potential upgrades throughout your time in The Tenants will be vital.

Of course, you’ll be able to switch to other districts at any time and pick up right where your Agent has left off. Agents receive compensation based on the number of days worked, so they won’t burn through your cash if after some time you decide to come back and expand your business in the starting district. After each month they’ll send you a monthly report sheet detailing your income and expenses along with a wire transfer with money you’ve managed to make. They’ll even let you know if you’ve got any unoccupied units waiting for a new tenant to move in!

Generally Agents will try to bother you as little as possible, unless something really important happens that requires your input. For instance, Agents will always ask if you want to extend your tenants’ lease and while they can negotiate the new terms for you, you’ll have the option to handle it yourself.

The Tenants Development Update #13

Hello there, Landlords!

Whew! That was a pretty busy week for us, with the whole Autumn Game Festival on Steam. It seems though that the hard work we’ve put into the demo paid off, as we’ve received a lot of positive feedback from you (and a lot of cool ideas for further development).

A lot of you asked if we’re gonna hold more Closed Beta access giveaways, and we are! Click in the link below to participate in the new giveaway:

Some of you have asked us what our plans for end-game content are. Well, it just so happens that one of the biggest differences between the demo version and the release version that we’ll launch in Q1 2021 are the districts. The Wondersville is split into 3 major districts (or regions): Slums, Suburbs and Manhattan (2 of which will be available on release, with the third one to be added in a post-launch update). Keep in mind that you’ll have to build up your reputation to obtain a permit to do all the landlord stuff in the further districts.

Once you unlock the second district you’ll also unlock an option to hire Agents that’ll take care of your business in the previous district, so you can move onto the new region in full swing. Of course you’ll be able to go back and take over control whenever you choose to. There’ll be quite a few agents to choose from, each with their pros and cons: some may keep the relationships with your tenants high while others may focus on collecting rent on time. You’ll also have to pay them a cut for all the hustle. Each new region will introduce new mechanics into the game and feature a unique lineup of apartments.

PS. We’ve updated the main trailer video on our Steam Store Page - make sure to check it out!
