0.1.0 - Closed Beta Notes

We have launched the closed beta! Here's some tips to help you with starting up a match.

Controls:
  • To control the camera, click and drag either Left Mouse or Middle Mouse.
  • The player button - in the center of the bottom part of the screen - has different functions at different phases of the game. It is used to pass power phases, skip your turn, skip sections of the end phase, and select the player that will begin fighter placement or activations. To use this button, either click on it or press the Spacebar key.
  • To select highlighted options - fighters, cells or the player button - click Left Mouse
  • To use a card, click and drag the card to the middle of the screen using Left Mouse
  • Some cards can be dragged to a target position on the boards - an example would be fighter placement, where you must click and drag the fighter card to the targeted starting point using Left Click. This will be implemented for more cards in the future.
  • To activate a fighter, click them during your activation and click and drag the action token you wish to do from their token tray to the targeted point, eg. drag the 'Move' token to the point you wish to move to. If a fighter is not able to be activated, their will not be able to be selected during activation.
  • During activation, after selecting a fighter, you can select a cell in range of movement to put a waypoint. The fighter will path through all waypoints for movement or charging.
  • After selecting a fighter, charging can be done by selecting the targeted enemy and dragging an attack to them, OR by simply dragging the attack to the targeted enemy. This will try to move the fighter to the closest move point in range, based on the position of the cursor on the targeted enemy. This can be a bit fiddly so watch out that you don't move to the wrong point!

Known Issues:
  • Support symbols are not implemented correctly in the current build. The number of supporting fighters will make those respective dice symbols successes, instead of subtracting the smaller number of support from the larger and formulating success symbols from that. This was implemented in this format for a proof of concept and hasn't been reworked since, it will be fixed before release.
  • Some UI messages are not implemented, will show their localisation key.
  • Disconnecting during matchmaking / server connection can cause instability or visual bugs.
  • Some upgrades do not appear in the fighter's token tray.
  • There is a networking issue during some matches that will cause a player's board to generate incorrectly. This appears as little 'charge' symbols over the top of each cell on that board. This will crash the match, so you will need to exit the match and queue for matchmaking again. This should be a rare occurence.
  • The audio settings are defaulted to 0. To change this, open the settings panel by clicking on the settings symbol in the top left of the screen, and move the audio sliders to an appropriate level.
  • There are some issues with the tutorials that may cause non-progressions.
  • Users receiving false error messages when attempting to report a bug.

New Boards revealed during June Developer Stream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzPAk-tiEQg
We've got our heads down, busily at work on the game, but we did surface briefly at the end of June to record a two-hour stream revealing the art for two game boards – The Mirror Well and The Shattered Tower. Check out the stream to see them in action! These boards give a good idea of the direction we are taking to transtlate the board art into the digital realm.

The team has faced many challenges in the process of digitising the game, and the boards presented a particular challenge to the art department. We are very pleased with how they have turned out and are keen to show you more in the coming months.

Be sure to follow us on Twitch and get notified next time we go live. We've also got a Facebook page, Twitter account, and Discord server where you can join in the community in anticipation of the game!

Until then, stay glorious!

2 hour Dev Stream – this Sunday! June 23

The dev team will be running a stream event this weekend via the Warhammer Underworlds: Online Twitch channel. Tune in at the following times to see us face off, (hopefully) roll lots of crits, and chase glory!

SUNDAY, JUNE 23
  • 2pm-4pm PST
  • 5pm-7pm EST
  • 10pm-12am BST

As a more general update on the progress of development, I'm sure you're all wondering how far the game is from Early Access release as, from the look of the game during our stream event last month, the gameplay looks quite functional. And it is! However, making Warhammer Underworlds: Online awesome involves a lot of development work that extends beyond ensuring that you can play a match. There are a lot of 'invisible' features and backend systems that we're working on to ensure this game looks and feels great. So rest assured that we are working hard to bring you this game and we'll keep you updated on its progress.

See you at the stream via Twitch on Sunday!

Skulls for the Skull Throne 3 – Exclusive Pre-Alpha Gameplay Stream

The world of Warhammer video games has been taken over by Chaos god Khorne and his followers for the weekend! A mountain of awesome games have updated with exclusive Skulls content and many more are up to 80% off. Check out the entire sale here.

But what does this mean for Warhammer Underworlds: Online?

We're very glad you asked!

We'll be doing 3 exclusive gameplay streams during the event!

You can watch the stream right here on Steam. Or you can head over to the official Warhammer Underworlds: Online Twitch channel. We've updated the game with a number of special Skulls-themed assets for our stream. Here's a screenshot of the regular visuals of the game to jog your memory, but you'll need to jump into our stream to see the new skulls content!

Be sure to tune into the stream to get a first look at our spooky creepy skull-themed content. We'll be letting everyone know via Discord as soon as we go live, so be sure to join our Discord server (if you haven't already!) to get the latest updates. Happy gaming!

Pre-Alpha Gameplay: First Look

Over the weekend (11-12 May) we showed our first ever pre-alpha, playable demo at Warhammer Fest in the UK. The reception was awesome – it was great to meet so many members of the community and see them experience the wonders of a digital game of Underworlds for the first time.

Here's a few screenshots from the demo build:

In other exciting news, we've started a Twitch channel! Only a small portion of our community was able to attend Warhammer Fest in person, so in the interests of giving the wider community the opportunity to see gameplay, we've got Twitch up and running and will be doing some streams very soon. And be sure to join our Discord server to stay in loop about development and beta testing opportunities and get updated when we go live.

Have a glorious day!
