0.2.1.1 - Hotfix #4 Patch Notes

Happy Friday, Extinction Elites!

A Hotfix has been pushed out and should now solve most, if not all, of the new crashes that appeared after Supply Drop #2 landed. We have also removed the Christmas themed background sounds, with it being February next week and all.
Patch Notes
• Fixed an issue where players crashed in the loading screen after the insertion map due to outdated graphic drivers.
  • Removed the Christmas themed background SFX.

We hope the Hotfix lands well, and let us know if you run into any issues by reporting them here.

Supply Drop #2 - Patch Notes

The second Supply Drop has just landed, and it’s filled with a bunch of goodies that should make your play sessions smoother and more enjoyable.

We want to thank you for continuing to report the bugs and issues you encounter. Being part of the Second Extinction community during our Early Access journey means you have much more influence over how the game takes shape than what will be possible after the full launch.

We are so happy that you’re taking that opportunity to tell us what you’d like to see in our feedback channel on Discord (join here), answering our Discord polls, and continue being our eyes and ears out on the battlefield, reporting the issues you encounter via the bug report form. We read every post and really appreciate it!

To highlight your contributions in helping us make the game better, we’ve brought back the patch notes’ stars ⭐. They show which changes were made as a direct result of your feedback and reports.
Notable Updates
• Health Stim interrupt mechanic now only occurs on heavy hits ⭐
    - The health stim interrupt mechanic was added to introduce a bit more strategy to its use. However, coupled with the reduction in carrying capacity it was far too punishing in its initial implementation. Now only heavy attacks that would stagger the player should interrupt the use of the stim.
  • Dialog System Improvements
    - The dialog system has proven to be a tricky beast to wrangle into shape across the network, and you have likely noticed a lot of lines triggering out of context. The Audio team has been hard at work, making the system far more robust.
  • Grenade Launcher ⭐
    - Many QoL fixes have been made to the Grenade Launcher, most notably the Aim Down Sight pose no longer tries to use the 3rd eye one meter above the player’s head.
    - Both damage falloff and the fuse timer have been tweaked to make placing shots much easier. Be careful, though. Grenades now deal self-damage to discourage spam
    - KNOWN ISSUE. An issue has been found with hit detection after some optimization work to enemy collision. This is being addressed for a future update but some improvements in its reliability have been made when impacting smaller and unarmored enemies.
    - We hope that the fact that explosions now send enemy bodies flying again is a sufficient apology for the above.

Join the Winter Challenge!

Hi Extinction Elites!

Are you in the mood for a challenge? Let’s hope so because we've just kicked off the Winter Challenge!

Besides the honor of being number one, getting a special role on discord displayed on top of all others stating you are the best, and the obligatory bragging rights, you can win this buzzingly superb nameplate.

The Electric Winter nameplate can only be received by winning this year’s Winter Challenge, so you won’t get another shot at getting it.

How do you enter?
The Winter Challenge takes place on the Second Extinction official discord server (join it here) from December 16 - January 12, in the Winter Challenge-channel in the Community Category.

In this channel, you can also read the rules and conditions in case you need a refresher later. If players have begun submitting entries, you can easily find the rules by looking in the pinned messages.

You enter by:

Submitting a screenshot of your stats screen that shows after a successful Expedition run.
Write a summary of how you approached the challenge (max. 500 characters).

What is the challenge?
With Expedition Mode being the most anticipated feature of Pre-season 2: The Hornet’s Nest, this will be the mode to play.

The rules are simple:
  • The most damage dealt on a successful Expedition Mode-run wins.
  • The three players with the best results win.
  • The run needs to be made in under an hour
  • You may choose whichever difficulty setting you like.
  • The run can be made solo or with other players, but you compete individually, not as a squad.

Any additional rules?
  • You need to have a full Apex Connect account. If you skipped out on making one when you first logged into the game, you can create one in-game. Go to Settings -> Apex Connect and click “Upgrade Account.”
  • If you win, you’ll need to provide your Steamid64 for us to be able to give you your Electric Winter nameplate. You can see what your Steamid64 is here. We will send you a DM and ask for this if you win.
  • No more than one entry - if you post a run and later do a better run, remove the previous run before posting the new one. Any player with multiple entries will be disqualified.
  • No cheats allowed. We will look at the details of your run from the backend to make sure the run was made fair and square.

When will the winners be announced?
The winners will be announced on the 13th of January, the day after the competition ends in the Winter Challenge Discord channel.

When will I receive my prize if I win?
You will receive your “Winter Challenge Winner”-discord role, bragging rights, and honor right away. The nametag will arrive on your account a short while later, together with the January update, date still to be announced.

Pre-season 2: The Hornet's Nest - Patch Notes

Calling all Extinction Elites,

The first phase of Basic Training is over. Time to take it up a notch. Time to kick the hornet’s nest.

Pre-season 2 introduces a new mode, weapon, enemy, and more!

Expedition mode lets you roam the map freely without being tied to a mission. Your efforts will have a bigger and more visible impact on the War Effort, but beware: The dinosaurs are increasingly angry. Expect heavy resistance.

Starting with the release of this pre-season the War Effort will update twice a week: On Mondays and Thursdays at 13.00 CET you will see and feel the consequences of your actions - or your inaction. So keep an eye on your progress and be prepared, for there are new Emergence Events in the mix. Also, remember to take a well-deserved break when the clock hits the hour to avoid getting disconnected.

Now for the technical bit: The team has been working hard on fixing crashes and black screens, getting contracts working, balancing changes, and improving the game with a lot of quality of life fixes. Worth noting is that Rex will no longer float on your downed body, Dragons Breath is no longer OP and those grenade jumps you used to cheat the game? Yeah, they’re gone now. Sorry!

Want to know what else has changed? Check the full list below.
Abilities and Perks
• Sometimes Rosy's electric fence got stuck and could not be deployed. She’s been welding away and fixed the issue.
