Update 5 - Survival Expansion



Hey Everyone,

We are back with another massive update. This time around we looked into adding plenty of new content, as well as fixing and improving things across the board. The main feature of this update is expanded Survival mode.

The undead now come in different forms and require the player to use different tactics to defeat them! There are now seven types of undead to battle in survival mode. Besides the addition of these new minions, each minion has been rebalanced to serve a specific purpose in which will create a diverse battlefield. Additionally, all statistics were balanced to increase the difference between easy, medium and hard modes.

Keep in mind that you will need to update the game in order to continue playing in online mode.

And so introducing Update # 5:


SURVIVAL EXPANSION
  • Wave 1+ Zombies: Zombies are the most common form of undead. While they are quite harmless by themselves, they are very deadly in numbers. Zombies are very weak to slashing attacks.
  • Wave 3+ Skeleton Thanes: Skeleton Thanes have lower health than Zombies but do significantly more damage. They have a very high resistance to pierce damage and are almost invulnerable to fire damage. Skeletal Thanes are very weak to crushing attacks.
  • Wave 6+ Zombie Ogres: Zombie Ogres have high health and aim to destroy your walls and gates. They have all around low resistances. It is advised that you destroy them either by range or melee before they reach your walls!
  • Wave 9+ Skeleton Warriors: Skeleton Warriors have average health but are near invulnerable to piercing and fire damage. The best way to defeat these minions is to send your warriors out to meet them in battle.
  • Wave 12+ Demonic Minotaurs: Demonic Minotaurs have high health and do high damage but do little to walls. They have mostly lower resists other than a little higher resistance to slashing damage. It is recommended you weaken them with archers before facing them in melee due to their higher damage!
  • Wave 15+ Skeleton Archers: Skeleton Archers have very low health but are highly resistant to piercing damage and are near invulnerable to fire damage. Skeleton Archers deal high damage and it would be wise to make sure they do not linger long outside of your walls.
  • Wave 20+ Zombie Behemoths: Zombie Behemoths have the highest health of all undead. They have lower resists apart from an increased resist to crushing damage. They can decimate your gates if you let them knock at your door. Use everything you must to keep these minions at bay!


FIXES AND ADDITIONS
  • Arrows now track moving targets
  • Survival now has six new minions that spawn
  • Additional performance improvements
  • Survival is now an Iron Man mode. When you are defeated you must start over
  • Fixed issue with Skeleton Archers ammo
  • Fixed Healing Aura to not create extra units
  • The Stronghold upgrade for Humans is now properly locked until researched
  • Fixed bug that would sometimes cause statistical issues in Survival
  • Ogres now move to the player base when spawned
  • Knights should now be able to change formations


BALANCING
  • Survival statistic system completely rebalanced
  • The Undead no longer heal at town wells
  • There is a greater difference between the difficulties in Survival
  • Fixed an exploit used to receive gems in Skirmish
  • Fixed a save game exploit used to receive gems in Survival

Update 4 - First Big Update



Hey Everyone,

It`s been a great launch week - many new players have discovered the game during this time, but more importantly thousands of old players came back to the game! Myself and others from our small team had a great time playing games with many of you, and chatting in-game. Thanks for all the feedback, suggestions and reviews!

With launch craziness behind us, we are switching from daily hot fixes to bigger updates every few days, and we are happy to introduce our first major update to KW2DE - 1.4!

Keep in mind that you will need to update the game in order to continue playing in online mode.

And so introducing Update # 4:

MAJOR CHANGES AND ADDITIONS
  • Social Invite player to a game mode now randomizes the map
  • AI will now open and close gates properly
  • Login button added above the three GUI quickplay buttons for those that are offline


PERFORMANCE AND OPTIMIZATION
  • Updated all worker (i.e. Peasant, Laborer, Warden, etc.) code to improve FPS (More improvements coming)
  • Zombies spawn 10 minutes after a battalion has died (Make sure to clean up the battlefield after big fights!)
  • Zombies that spawn remove corpses.
  • Corpses are removed after 15 minutes in skirmish mode, 12 minutes in survival
  • Zombies will start to decay after being alive for 10 minutes if not killed in Skirmish and 12 minutes in Survival
  • Zombies will temporarily stop spawning if higher than max number on the map
  • Temporarily removed Skeletons from Survival until properly optimized


FIXES AND ADDITIONS
  • Orc AI Hard will now properly send units to attack you
  • Players do not receive a Defeat message when sending units to allies unless they have zero units left.
  • Fixed Card Power Functions and in-game use texts to align with their abilities
  • Social Invite player to a game mode now checks the game version before the match
  • Fixed a bug causing corpses to get stuck in walls
  • Decreased the max fly height of arrows and bolts
  • Slightly increased zoom level due to popular feedback
  • Starting camera distance is set to max zoom out of “Minimum Camera Setting”
  • Added, "Disabled in Offline Mode" tooltip to Tech Tree and Card Powers when in Offline Mode.
  • Chat bar now scrolls to the bottom of chat after a loading screen
  • Removed Attack Move from various units (depreciated/same as aggressive stance)
  • Fixed Font for the Chinese Language


BALANCING
  • Adjusted difficulty of Survival to make late games much harder
  • Due to popular feedback, Resource Cap has been increased to 10k in all modes
  • Decreased the Cost of Wardens by 30%
  • Decreased the Cost of Female Wardens by 15%
  • Reduced HP of Skeletal Units that spawn from Crypt


KNOWN ISSUES
  • When three AI races are selected - one of the races do not upgrade their walls.
  • Aura healing can cause lag for some users (Spell FX currently disabled)
  • When a wall breaks the animation can cause lag for some users.
  • Some worker’s battalion leaders will move to a tasked resource first before the rest follows (at long distances)

Massive Update Incoming!



Hey Everyone,

Thank you so much for supporting our small indie game! Your reviews propelling the game up is really helping things, and we are glad to see the game is growing.

There are hundreds of online games being played every day, and records are being set (somebody is already on Wave 60 in survival!) It was awesome to speak with You players in-game, and thanks for all the forum feedback and ideas! We do have one awesome community here:)

On our end - we are doing everything possible to make experience better for everyone. After rushing out 3 updates this week, and getting things stable for the weekend, we are working on a MAJOR update #4. Getting ready to bring it to you in a couple of days.

This update will include a lot of fixes. Few dozen bugs and issues - that you have reported - are being worked on. The extra delay with releasing this update comes from the need to properly test it out, as there are a lot of changes. We are taking care of the last sync, lag and crash issues, as well as balancing and other bugs.

We wanted to outline a couple of things meanwhile, just in case you are having trouble with the game (all of this is getting fixed in the upcoming update)

  • There are some issues in multiplayer games when playing as Orcs or Elves. For now it might be best to stick to humans - as they don`t lag, don`t crash, don`t have sync issues.
  • If you can`t use Tech and Cards in the main menu, means you need to update your game and switch to online mode. First update the game, make sure to restart Steam and that auto-update is enabled for KW2DE in your library. Next go to the main menu, confirm version number under the game logo says 1.03. Next click on Options. On the right you`ll see Pay Offline. Undo the check mak there, and close the options. It`ll log you in now.

Update 3 - Time to Play



Hey Everyone,

Two days after release, we are happy to present our 3rd update, that fixes last of the major issues that plagued the game on launch. At this point we are happy to say things are in a good shape and there should be no major issues effecting majority of players. Our work is far from done though as we continue with daily updates fixing remaining bugs, and starting to look towards new features. This update totally rebalances Survival, eradicating all the lag, and making it a lot more fun to play. Performance is much better across the board, and dozens of other bugs has been fixed.

  • Eradicated the lag in Zombie Survival mode, especially during late game
  • Fixed majority of lag in late game Skirmish mode
  • Zombie Survival re-balanced to be easier on later waves, expect to reach 15th wave+
  • In Zombie Survival - Zombies are now progressively faster with each wave
  • Fixed survival exploit where waves would continue after loosing for infinite Gems
  • Fixed survival exploit with quitting to get Gems
  • Fixed never getting defeated in Survival mode
  • Fixed waves sometimes skipping in Survival
  • Fixed translated text only showing in the main menu and not in-game
  • Fixed CoOp invite from Social window not working right - victory and AI issues
  • Fixed matchmaking not working sometimes
  • Corpses are now removed after 15 minutes
  • Fixed some palisade towers not being walkable for Orcs and Men
  • Removed High settings Zombies from Skirmish options
  • Dozen of other minor fixes and balancing improvements

Update 2 - 24 hours later



Hey Everyone,

With just over 24 hours after the release, our second update is here, and it should fix vast majority of critical issues. From lag, to matchmaking, performance and campaign - this patch covers almost every major issue that was there for launch.

Keep in mind that you will need to update the game in order to continue playing in online mode.

And we also wanted to extend a big thank you to our players - influx of positive reviews is really helping the game attract new players, as well as secures a future for KW2DE with more updates to come! We also greatly appreciate all the feedback and suggestions!

Tomorrow we continue with more Survival fixes, big skirmish game lag fixing as well as visual improvements. And a dozen of other player requested fixes should be ready tomorrow as well.

We apologize for not catching these issues prior to release, but these issues only showed up once a larger number of players stated playing the game, and went unnoticed during beta testing.

  • Fixed lag in survival game mode, especially on later waves
  • Fixed matchmaking issues
  • Re-balanced survival mode - a bit easier, especially on later waves
  • Added Zombie Ogres to the survival mode
  • Fixed Chinese language issues
  • Reworked games scrolling camera - much faster scrolling now
  • Fixed issue with resources counter sometimes having white square
  • Fixed Chapter 1 bug with getting stuck on Orcs attacking town
  • Fixed common Chapter 1 bug with gatehouses that won`t destroy
  • Fixed rare Chapter 1 bug not getting victory on completing all objectives
