Avatar Playstyle: Lyxia

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

Both on and off the battleground Lyxia is a prime example of what an assassin Avatar should be. It took Lyxia more than her talent to become a part of the Nyx’arh Assassins. She spent her time honing her skills and advancing through the ranks only to come to the world of PHAGEBORN and fight side by side with those willing to try the Oblivion ways.

Spectral Shift is Lyxia’s signature Skill that costs 3 energy. It allows you to choose an enemy unit that won’t be able to block Lyxia until the end of that turn. If a zone has one blocker, this Skill will grant her the ability to attack the enemy Core or Avatar behind that unit. A great tool to have for the assassin type of Avatar.

Lyxia’s traits let you modify her Skill or her damage output. Her starting trait, Even the Odds, makes her attacks deal 1 more damage to Avatars with equal or less health, helping you to close the health gap between the Avatars more easily.
Lyxia’s second trait, Abyssal Knowledge, decreases the cost of her Skill by 2, reducing it to only 1 energy cost. And since the starting energy for every Avatar is 1, you don’t need to level up energy to use her Skill. That will allow you to put more emphasis on leadership and units though it is not recommendable to completely move away from the energy cards. Oblivion faction has some interesting low-cost energy cards. Did you know that they have most of the unique 2-cost energy cards out of all factions? 6 to be exact? And some of them can stay very impactful even in the late game. Add the 3-cost energy cards to the deck as well and you can combine the 2-cost energy cards with her Skill, all depending on the situation and your needs.
The final trait you can unlock with Lyxia is Voidlink Slash. With this trait, every time Lyxia deals combat damage to the enemy Avatar she will deal the same amount of damage to the enemy Core! Assassin-type Avatars are fun to play though it can get a bit hard for them to get to the enemy backline in the late game. The combination of this trait with Lyxia’s Skill will let you start chipping at both the enemy’s Core and their Avatar from the start, allowing you to create a health advantage over your opponent. And don’t forget to add cards to your deck that further boost Lyxia’s attacks, such as Krorn Battlemaster and Golas, to extend that advantage to the maximum.

Avatar Lore: Lyxia

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

Sometimes our biggest challenges are our greatest opportunities. Lyxia would agree since the challenge she faced changed the trajectory of her entire life. Can you imagine wandering the vast space of Oblivion with no creature in sight, no predator to fight? Just you and your mind, lost in thought, roaming around, maybe a bit distraught.

But, alas… Something didn’t feel right. Lyxia continued to move as if nothing changed though she was no longer lost in thought but now very aware of her surroundings. When you spend your life in such a predatorial world you learn to trust your instincts. After all, they did keep you alive until that point.
Just a split second later, Lyxia felt the vibrations in the air behind her, indicating that the initial blow is about to land. Lyxia may be many things, but she is under no circumstances ordinary. Her ability to phase through the objects is just the thing to help her avoid this sneak attack. And now, when her attacker has lost the element of surprise, the one with more skill will be the one to leave this place alive. Or so she thought.
She avoided the first attack, but the punches didn’t stop. The attacker seemed determined to take her down. Thanks to her extraordinary reflexes, she managed to avoid most of the incoming blows, though the ones that did hit left quite the marks. They continued the exchange, skills almost matched, until Lyxia saw a small opportunity. Her attacker uses a very peculiar strike every time she counterattacks, leaving their left leg open for a sweep attack. With her speed, she can use this to her advantage. She faked her move the first chance she got and her assailant stepped right into her trap. Lyxia swoop them off their feet and knocked them down on the ground, leaving them defenceless. But in the blink of an eye, as she prepared to deliver the final blow, the attacker disappeared.

The attacker’s moves were fluid and decisive, they showed a lot of skill. If she weren’t so furious at the attempt on her life, she may even be impressed with them. Nevertheless, this assault wasn’t something she could ignore. Luckily, phasing isn’t Lyxia’s only special skill. In Oblivion, everything leaves at least some kind of trace, and Lyxia has the unique ability to follow this trace. So she gathered her composure and started to track her attacker down. The trail led her in circles for a time, it seemed that her assailant is smarter than she thought as they tried to cover their tracks. Unfortunately for them, those weren’t the tracks she followed. It took her quite some time for the trace to become stronger. She was getting close to her target, and she won’t let them get away this time. However, as she was approaching her mark, she also approached what seemed to be a very unusual building in the middle of nothing. There, a prominent figure loomed in front of the entrance. It was Hazzerin, and he welcomed Lyxia with open arms.

Even in the world of Oblivion, the existence of the Void Order is still a secret for most. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they are the ones on the lookout for the especially talented individuals to recruit. This assassination attempt was nothing more than an initiation! Nothing less can be expected from such an elite order. And so, her successful training as an assassin began…

Lore: The Void Order & Nyx’arh Assassins

“When one thinks of the Oblivion, hordes of Voidlings and other unnatural creatures come to mind. Dear child, the only thing that is certain in that ratchet place is the law of the strongest. You can see it in their actions, you can feel it in your bones. But not everyone in Oblivion agrees that their way of life is how it should be…”

For the Oblivion, there is only one way of advancing in this world - through evolution. However, when it comes to the ways to achieve that, not everyone is on the same page. Most of the Oblivion creatures will, while feeding, absorb the essence of their prey, and with it, their genes and their knowledge. After all, that is how it’s been done since the beginning. But there are some that believe the only real way to advance is through mastering their skills. For them, that is the profound way, not by stealing knowledge from others.
The Void Order is one such group. Its members have dedicated their lives to the honing of the assassination arts. Most creatures, even those in Oblivion, are not aware of their existence. And neither will their targets be until it’s too late.

Nyx’arh Assassins are the elite assassins of the Void Order. To become one, one must dedicate their life to the perfecting of the craft, but no matter how proficient they are, until they earn the honour of severing the connection to the hive mind, they will not be bestowed the entrance. Hazzerin is the commander of this elite order and gets his orders directly from the Overminds. After all, their sole mission is to eliminate the threats to the Overminds. At least, that is what the Overminds think… Hazzerin established a secret order within the Nyx’arh, hidden from the Overminds' gaze. Their mission is to launch an attack against the Overminds and end their rule over Oblivion. But Hazzerin is cunning. He will not start the coup until the time is right…

“The tyrants will oftentimes meet their end by the hand of those they firmly hold in their grip. But then again, usually, such risings are drowned in blood, even when their intention may be right… Who knows what the future holds for the Oblivion…”

Card Art Showcase: Netherspitter

Dear Denizens of Issilith!

Oblivion creatures come in many shapes and sizes, and some of them even have unique abilities thanks to their evolving properties. The same thing applies to the Voidlings.

While mentioning of Voidlings usually evokes a picture in one’s mind of the overwhelming hordes of little, purple creatures swarming and flying around, there are those among them who are more evolved and bring more to the table than just sheer numbers. One such creature is Netherspitter. These hound-like beasts are highly-evolved Voidlings. Their stomach began to excrete a nether-like substance allowing them to digest almost anything. With time, they’ve learned to use this as a weapon in combat. Their spit can destroy armour and weaken living beings, helping their less evolved kin to devour the pray more easily.

Netherspitter is an Oblivion 2-cost unit. Its stats are set at 1/2, and when you put it on the board, you’ll be able to target a local enemy unit and put a vulnerability counter on it. Every time that unit is dealt combat damage, it will lose the amount of health equal to the number of vulnerability counters it has. In the case of the Lesser Voidlings, that will help you take a unit down in half the time it would usually take.

What is your favourite Voidling? If you haven’t already, join our Discord channel (Discord) and stay in the loop with more news to come!
