Director Mode update: No Modifier option added

Dear Explorers,

Back in May we introduced the Director Mode, in which at the end of each expedition year you are required to select a new negative modifier, making the game more and more difficult the further you proceed in your adventure. Lots of players appreciated the increasing challenge, but some of you have asked to make this mode a little more forgiving.

With today's update, alongside the existing negative modifiers you will always be offered a "No Modifier" option. You can select this for every single year or only for some: we know many explorers will be happy to finally being able to leave the Club Inspector behind! However, if you do take him (or select any other Modifier) you will get a permanent fame boost for returned treasures for the rest of the Director Mode run.

Additionally, this update includes a few other changes:

 • Village Quests are now much more worthwhile: you gain more Experience and better items for completing village quests, and the more elaborate quests have extra rewards on top of that.
 • Lava crust tiles break after you walk over them, but they will now "re-crust" after 25 days, which means that the path is no longer permanently broken.
 • The Parasaurolophus Crest item now starts off a little weaker, but gets better bonuses at higher levels.
 • Added new music tracks.
You can find the full change notes on our wiki (English only). Make sure to check out the rest of the wiki site as well, our former intern Felix has been updating it recently and it now includes a lot of useful information, tips and insights. You're also welcome to contribute and expand the wiki further, or translate it into other languages — there's a Simplified Chinese version that could use some love!

In the past few months we've been working on new content for the game (if you're a member of our Discord you might have seen some previews already), we'll have more information to share soon...

Adventure awaits!

New content update: Endless Hazards. Nintendo Switch™ version out now!

Dear Explorers,

This one is a smaller update, with a simple goal: make your expeditions a bit harder! It's titled Endless Hazards and features 3 new map hazards: Geyser, Fumarole and Magma Spout. Let's find out more...
Geyser: Players can get washed away when the Geyser is active. Cycles between active and inactive.

Magma Spout: erupting spout that creates periodic Lava rivers that flow across the map, before cooling.

Fumarole: Creates a poisonous cloud that moves over the map for a certain amount of time.

This update also features a new piece of equipment: the Agile Saddle, which provides a free ambush when attacking.
Additionally, this update includes a number of changes and fixes — you can find the full change notes on our wiki (English only).
One last important thing... Curious Expedition 2 is now available on Nintendo Switch™! It features all the content released for the Steam version so far. The Playstation and Xbox versions will follow in the near future.
Adventure awaits!

New content update: Terror of the Seas

Dear Explorers,

Another month, another free content update. This one is all about SKELETON PIRATES. Here's what we prepared for you:

New Location: Undead Pirate Shipwreck. This is a variant of the Shipwreck where you can encounter Undead Pirates and recruit them, or do some trading.

New Recruit: Undead Pirate. Has the ability to fight when at zero health and an Ambush attack, making it perfect for combat-focused playstyles.

New Enemy: Undead Pirates. Undead skeletons that fight in groups, they can return from the dead if not killed fast enough.

New Wandering Trader type: Undead Pirate Gang. Trade for valuable goods, or engage in a friendly challenge. How intriguing!

New Weapons: Black Powder Pistol (powerful, but beware of self-stuns) and Cutlass (does extra damage when equipped by Sailor or Pirate).

This week's Club Competition reward is also fitting the update's theme: a Pirate Bandana! It's the kind of fashion item that never goes out of style.

Additionally, the update includes a number of changes and fixes — you can find the full change notes on our wiki (English only).

On the technical side, we want to higlight in particular that savegame backups are now stored in a different folder to avoid potential data loss caused by Steam Cloud (since some of you reported problems where your progress got lost). You can now find ".bak" files in C:\Users\\AppData\LocalLow\Maschinen-Mensch\Curious Expedition 2\backups (where is your Windows user name)

Adventure awaits!
