Lost Records: Bloom & Rage joins the Narrative Excellence bundle!

Today we're saying congratulations to our good friends over at DON'T NOD on the launch of the studio's newest game, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage.

"Embark on a new narrative journey by the creators of Life is Strange. Film your summer of 1995 and create memories of a lifetime with your new friends. 27 years later, confront the dark secrets that made you all promise to never speak again after that fateful summer."

We're also delighted to announce that Lost Records: Bloom & Rage has today joined the Narrative Excellence bundle, where it sits alongside Eternal Threads as well as The Chinese Room's narrative horror, Still Wakes the Deep.

When it comes to narrative excellence, DON'T NOD is a one of the most important developers and publishers of all. 75% off Eternal Threads in the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase

From May 23rd – May 30th, Eternal Threads will be 75% off in the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase. The Cerebral Puzzle Showcase is an annual event on Steam which showcases and celebrates some of the world’s best “thinky games”.

What is a Thinky Game? Well, it’s a puzzle game, but more specifically it could be any sort of game that really makes you think, as you play.

In Eternal Threads, you’ll have to carefully consider the decisions you make, as each choice will have consequences. As an operative tasked with fixing corruption in the timestream, you have been sent to the North of England in May 2015, where six people died in a house fire. Prohibited from simply stopping the fire, you must instead manipulate the choices made by the housemates in the week leading up to it so that they all survive the event.

Today we are also celebrating the launch of Eternal Threads on consoles. This non-linear, narrative-puzzle adventure is also now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Eternal Threads finds its ideal future on consoles from 23 May 2024

After sifting through various plotlines and potential butterfly effects, today Secret Mode and Cosmonaut Studios can confirm that the non-linear, narrative-puzzle adventure Eternal Threads will release on PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on 23 May, 2024.

Plus, as a result of the game’s extended temporal tinkering, we can also confirm that Eternal Threads will also launch on Nintendo Switch, along with the PlayStation and Xbox versions. Now who saw that coming?

The Evil Within is Epic Games Store’s next free game – as Shinji Mikami teases his return

The Epic Games Store has confirmed next week's free games, one of which is the very seasonally appropriate The Evil Within.

If you were looking for a pretty good horror game to play through this Halloween, Epic Games has you covered. Starting October 19, you'll be able to claim the Tango Gameworks developed and Bethesda published The Evil Within, directed by none other than Resident Evil 1 through 4 director Shinji Mikami. Released in 2014, The Evil Within very much feels like a spiritual successor of sorts to the Resident Evil 4 era of games, where you play as Sebastian Castellanos, a former police officer who gets roped into a horrifying world filled with all kinds of monsters. It's not exactly a masterpiece, but it's got some good scares and monster designs, and for the price of free you really can't go wrong.

It's good timing, too, as it seems like Mikami has teased his intention to return to the world of game development. Earlier this year, it was reported that Mikami had left Tango Gameworks, the very studio he founded, which seemingly resulted in a non-compete clause. "Now that I've broken the spell of non-competition on myself, I guess I should get to work," Mikami tweeted yesterday, implying that the clause has now finished. PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya seems to be going through something similar, as he himself recently left the Bayonetta developer. Kamiya has started his own YouTube channel, where he explained that he signed a non-compete agreement which lasts a year, so we won't see a new game from him for a while.
