Unit of the Week #8 - M110A2

M110 is a 8 inch (203 mm) self-propelled heavy artillery howitzer entered service of the U.S. Army in 1963. It was designed to provide medium-range, general support artillery fire. The main 8-inch howitzer of the vehicle can be elevated from −2° to +65° and traverse of 30 degrees to left or right. M110's range varies from 16,800 to 25,000 meters when firing standart high explosive projectiles and up to 30,000 meters when firing rocket-assisted projectiles.
The M110 was exported to a number of countries and widely used in several military conflicts: the Vietnam War, the Yom Kippur War, the Iran-Iraq War and other armed conflicts.
The M110 was upgraded several times. The 1978 modification M110A2 was the latest version with a double muzzle brake.
