Unit of the Week #11 - M113A1

The M113 is a fully tracked armored personnel carrier (APC). Its series production for the US Army started in 1960. The distinctive feature of M113 was the use of light aluminum alloys for hull armor that made the vehicle fairly lightweight. M113 with a crew of 2 can transport an infantry squad up to 11 people.
It has been modified 3 times (A1, A2, A3) upgrading the engines of the vehicle.
M113 was actively exported and used in many armed conflicts around the world.
The vehicle was adopted by numerous countries and was produced both in the U.S. and abroad.
The total production of the M113, including vehicles on its base, was about 85,000 units.
In the Cold War Game the M113A1 is mainly used to move infantry to the front line.
