Unit of the Week #10 - CH-47 Chinook

The CH-47 Chinook is the first American multi-mission heavy troop and supply transport aircraft with the most spacious cargo cabin. The helicopter developed by Boeing Vertol. Named after the Native American Chinook people CH-47 is better known as "Chinook". The U.S. Army received the first series production CH-47s in 1962.

The twin-engined tandem rotor longitudinal scheme of the helicopter allows to use the entire length of the fuselage for transportation of personnel and cargo. CH-47 is equipped with a rear ramp for loading and unloading. The ramp can even be left open in flight to permit carrying of longer cargo items. Chinook can carry up to 33 fully equipped troopers on tip-up seats along cabin side walls. The helicopter design allows it to land and take off from water.

The CH-47 became an indispensable aircraft in the Vietnam War, where the helicopter proved its high reliability.

Since the helicopter entered service it has undergone a series of upgrades to increase lift and improve characteristics for combat environments (CH-47B, C, D). The military version of the helicopter has been widely exported and adopted in 14 countries.

At the moment in Cold War Game the CH-47 Chinook has maximum capacity for ammo and supplies.
