4th Alpha Test - Patch Notes
Hello everyone! Nimble Neuron's own GM_Aesop here with the patch notes for our 4th Alpha test.
As you know, BS:ER is still under development and the game will continue to be improved well into the future. We also read a lot of your feedback from our 3rd Alpha Test and took a lot of it into consideration when developing the game and making changes.
We hope that these patch notes help you further enjoy BS:ER!
I'm just going to give you a rundown and the direction of the changes.

[Character]
- New character: Zahir
Zahir, the Ascended Disciple, will make his way to Lumia Island this time, and he's bringing his throwing weapons with him. Let's check out his skills.
- Eye of Azrael (Passive)
- If Zahir hits an enemy with a skill, an Eye of Azrael indicator is applied to the enemy for 6 seconds and Zahir's movement speed increases by 20/25/30%, slowly returning to normal over 2 seconds. If you hit an enemy with the indicator with a skill, it consumes the Eye of Azrael, dealing 50/75/100 + 0.3AP damage and an Eye of Azrael effect is applied to the skill used. If you kill an enemy, you see all corpses on the minimap for 20 seconds. (300 second cooldown)
- Q - Narayanastra
- Zahir calls upon God's strength, consuming a unit of ammunition from his equipped weapon and dealing 40/100/160/220/280 + 0.5AP damage in a targeted area after a short moment. If Eye of Azrael is applied to an enemy, Narayanastra deals 25/50/75/100/125 extra damage. If the enemy has more kills than you, their defense is decreased by that difference multiplied by 10/15/20/25/30% for 2 seconds. If they have fewer player kills than you, their defense is only decreased by 10/15/20/25/30%.
- W - Gandiva
- Passive: If Zahir hits an enemy with any skill but Gandiva, he gains 2 Chakrams that float behind him for 20 seconds (max. 5 Chakrams). Using Gandiva consumes a Chakram, throwing it in the targeted direction and dealing 20/30/40/50/70 + 1.2AP damage to the first enemy hit. Gandiva cannot be used without a Chakram. If Eye of Azrael is applied to an enemy, hitting an enemy with Gandiva reduces their movement speed by 30% for 1 second and reduces the cooldown of every skill by 1.5 seconds.
- E- Vayvayastra
- Zahir consumes a unit of ammunition from his equipped weapon to summon and launch a gust of wind, dealing 80/110/140/170/200 + 0.5AP damage. The first enemy hit is launched airborne for 0.5 seconds and their movement speed is reduced by 30% for 1 second after. If Eye of Azrael is applied to the enemy, they are launched airborne for 1.5 seconds.
- R- Bhargavastra (Ultimate)
- Zahir calls down Chakrams from the heavens to damage enemies in a wide area, dealing an initial 200/350/500+0.8AP damage and 50/85/120 + 0.5AP damage every second after that for 4 seconds. Bhargavastra applies an Eye of Azrael indicator to enemies if they don't have one.
[Balance changes]
Since we're still in the early stages of gameplay development, there's a lot of tweaking and changing going on behind the scenes every day. Instead of listing EVERY change and number, I'm just going to give you a rundown and the direction of the changes.
All characters
- Lowered Damage Ratios
We lowered the damage ratios of skills. Skill Amplification on items would amplify the damage and increase it a bit too much. We adjusted the attack damage and attack speed of every character to compensate for this. - Melee characters
Melee characters now run a little bit faster than ranged characters. - Traps
You now gain less experience from building traps, but more experience when traps deal damage.
- Jackie
Jackie's skills have been improved and optimized so they are a bit smoother to use. - Aya
Aya's cast time on her ultimate has been increased. Instead of it only becoming harder to hit the target, it does more damage. - Fiora
The cast time on some of Fiora's skills has been increased. Proccing a stack of Touche with a skill reduces the cooldown of her Fente. - Magnus
In the 3rd Alpha Test, Magnus had the highest probability of winning according to our data. We reduced the knockback distance and stun time of his Heavy Strike and lowered some of the damage on his Bike From Hell. - Nadine
Nadine's ultimate was very strong, but it was a little difficult to use compared to her regular skills. We increased the damage of her Bullseye, but it takes longer for it to reach maximum charge. A side effect of this is that it takes her a little bit longer to get stacks of Wild when relying on this skill. - HyunWoo
Some of HyunWoo's skills were pretty beefy in the last test. We toned him down a bit by reducing the stun time of his First Attack and increasing the time to charge his Haymaker to maximum damage.
[Weapon Skills]
Since Zahir is bringing new weapons, he's also got some new weapon skills: Throwing Weapons and Shurikens. Just like all the other weapon skills, each weapon type's unique skills can be unlocked at Mastery Lv. 7 and Enhanced and Mastery Lv. 14.- Throw - Smokescreen
A smokescreen immediately appears on the ground around you. Enemies inside the smokescreen have their vision reduced and their movement speed decreased by 20/40%. The smokescreen remains for 5/7 seconds. (35-seconds cooldown) - Caltrop Trail
Throw caltrops in an area. The caltrops stay for 10 seconds, dealing 110/180 + 0.3AP damage to enemies that step on them and reducing their movement speed by 30/40% for 2 seconds. Stepping on additional caltrops deals 40% of the initial damage. (35-seconds cooldown)
[What's new?]
Dr. Wickeline is terrorizing the island. Animals now have unique skills. You can save recipes and routes. You can customize your key bindings. There's an MMR system. There are new languages. Let's check them out in detail.
- Dr. Wickeline
Dr.Wickeline now patrols the map. If you don't find her, she might find you.
Your beloved Dr.Wicky will appear on the Island sometime during the later parts of the game.
She drops some good loot, but she's pretty tough. She's technically a wild animal, so she also has some skills. Mad skills. Here they are:- Harmful toxin: Leaks a poison at her location that remains for 5 seconds. Stepping on it inflicts poison on enemies, dealing damage.
- Perfusion: A poison is emitted from her syringe when her HP is below 50%. She then attacks, leaving poison at that location. Enemies hit by the poison take huge damage and are poisoned if they step on it.
- Harmful toxin: Leaks a poison at her location that remains for 5 seconds. Stepping on it inflicts poison on enemies, dealing damage.
- Wild Animal Skills
Animals pack a little more punch this time around.
- Boar: Boars will charge into you after a bit, knocking you back.
- Wolf: Wolves will howl, calling the other wolves in the area to help.
- Dog: Wild Dog attacks cause you to bleed, causing you to lose health over time. This ability stacks, and having more stacks causes you to bleed more.
- Bear: Bears will slam the ground and stun any attacker in front of them.
- Boar: Boars will charge into you after a bit, knocking you back.
- Saving recipes and routes
We've added an easier way to build the way you want.
In the lobby before the game, you can select up to 6 items that you would like to build in-game.
You can then select the route that you would like to follow to best collect all your components. Each character can make a recipe for each of their starting weapons. For example, Jackie can start with an Axe, Dagger, or Two-hand Sword, so she can save up to 3 recipes. - Customize your key bindings
Want your skills to be on O,B,K, and Y? Go for it.
You can customize your key bindings to be anything you want. Open up the settings and head to the Input tab. From there, you can change which each shortcut is. You are also able to toggle between quick cast and normal cast for your skills. - MMR System
Probably play against players of your own proficiency
After each game, you will gain/lose points based on your performance. Ranking higher in the match gains your more points, but ranking low takes them away. You can check how many LP you have in the new death recap that appears at the end of each match. The MMR system is based on the same ELO system that you see in chess. The LP system currently implemented in-game is an early version for testing, so it probably won't accurately represent your skill. Right now, it's just for fun! - New Languages
Rosetta stone comes to BS:ER
We've added the following languages to the game: French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Indonesian. You can change between the languages very easily in-game. Just head to the Screen tab in the settings and choose your language. We will also be adding more languages in the future! If you're interested in contributing to translation, please let us know!
[Improvements]
Sometimes, the small things make the biggest impact! We're constantly working hard to squash bugs and improve the game in big and small ways. Here's a couple of tweaks we've made to make BS:ER a better experience for you all.
- AI Opponents
We received a lot of feedback about long queues or being unable to find matches during our 3rd Alpha Test. We're adding some bots into the mix so that you can find matches a little bit easier. - FPS Optimization
In some fights or moments with a lot of action going on, we noticed a drop in FPS on some systems. We've worked to optimize the performance so that it runs a bit better on all systems. - Trap Improvements
Installed traps now have new models and different effects. You can see what type of trap you have based on its model when placed.- Mouse traps: Deal damage
- Nooses: Root players
- Spiked Planks: Slow players
- Bombs: Deal wide AoE damage
- Mines: Stun players and deal small AoE damage
- Blades: Retrain players and deal damage
- Mouse traps: Deal damage
- CC Indicator
Your nameplate will change when you receive a crowd control effect, indicating that you are stunned, airborne, root, etc. - Animal Level
Wild animal levels are now more respect for their strength. For example, bears spawn at level 5 at the beginning of the game, so don't try to attack them if you're still a low level! - Desktop Icon
The BS:ER desktop icon has changed to everyone's favorite high school student, Hyunwoo. - Strategymap BGM
Is it quiet in here or is it just me?
The music has been updated to play on the loading screen, as well as playing a countdown to remind you before the game starts. There have also been some other sounds added to the game, like the next point I'm going to mention. - In-game Announcer Voice
Can you hear me?
BS:ER now has an announcer! This disembodied voice will let you know when the game has begun when players get a kill, when restricted zones are starting, etc. - Item Box Duplicates
Looting a box in the School will not give you 4 pieces of chalk.
Items will be more evenly distributed across the area and you will never find more than 3 identical items in the same box. - Item Stat Comparison
You can hover over an item in your inventory to compare it to an item you currently have equipped. - Item images
We've added more icons for each item so you can quickly tell the difference between each item. There are still a couple of duplicates left in the game, but we will update them in future versions. The new icons also look nice! - Map improvements
Lumia Island is a beautiful place when the tests aren't underway and there isn't fighting in the streets.
We've added some more detail to show the beauty of Lumia island. There's been some optimizations and other things sprinkled through the island to give it some life. - Lobby Guide
There are a couple more ways to navigate the guide now to help you find your favorite items.
We will be waiting for you on Lumia Island!
Let there be glory to the pawns who've reached the end of despair!
