Johann and Chloe Concept Arts, 6 new skins, ER Future Preview!

Hey gang, Aesop here.

I’ve got a lot of REALLY awesome stuff to share with you today - mostly stuff that’ll be coming your way in Season 3 and beyond. Even some bits of ER lore.

It’s a super good reason to get excited.

First, you’ll get to look forward to some new characters like:
Chloe, the Clement Marionettist
Chloe will be the first real “Summoner” type character.

Players will control her and her doll, Nina, separately.
Johann, the Benevolent Priest
Johann channels “Arcana” and uses a Thurible as a weapon. Johann will be the first character to wield Arcana

All test subjects in Eternal Return manipulate a mystical force called VF (Vital Force). The experiments take place as a way to investigate this VF manipulation.
Arcana is designed to be the medium of pure, concentrated VF.

Key objects or weapons serve as a medium of this power; Shoichi’s bag, Barbara’s Sentry Gun, Adela’s chess pieces are all mediums that amplify VF.

Mentality, emotional trauma, or desire also play a big part in affecting these objects and VF. As Aglaia’s research continues, better equipment for controlling VF will be created.

Arcana will have greater magical and telekinetic prowess than traditional weapons, due to its direct manipulation of VF.
Skins
We’ve got some more skins headed your way as well! We’re going to surpass 40 characters in Season 3, so there’s going to be a lot of skins.

Wanna see?

(Yeah, I know you’ve already seen this... but just look how cool it is!)

Cadet Hyejin will be the reward for reaching at least gold in ranked in season 3.
Better start climbing!

We know there’s still a delay for new skins and that they’re really exciting to get and see and use and set as your phone wallpaper. We’re working on shortening that delay in the future.
Future Systems
Future Systems? Sounds cool.
Weapons
After the new Arcana “weapons” (mentioned above) are added, we're going to focus on weapon types that currently only have one user, i.e Guitar, Axe, Nunchaku, Crossbow, Whip, and Camera.
Characters new to the Eternal Return universe will be made with this in mind, so we probably won’t be adding any new weapon types. Maybe.
Talent System
We’re going to try out a new “talent” system come Season 4 preseason at the end of October. (Think Runes from league of legends)

We currently have 3 talent trees planned with 5 core talents and 5 supporting talents -- around 30 in total. Players will be able to choose 1 core talent and 2 supporting talents from the same tree, and 2 from another tree.

The 3 trees will be Damage, Tank/CC, or Utility/Support.

Ideally, we want to see more player agency and open up different playstyles per mastery. This should also strengthen and enforce roles in team modes if someone wants to play pure tank or support.

The whole system is a huge project that has been under development for a while now.

This kind of system may already be tried and true in other games, but the nature of ER will provide opportunities for unique interactions, gimmicks, and customization. The mechanics unique to ER (looting, crafting, battle royale aspects, etc) give us a lot more to play with.

A base system will be introduced in season 4 and will be built upon in future seasons, ideally expanding to 5~6 trees.

Naturally, this kind of thing is subject to change before its release.

I still haven’t even even decided what I’m going to call this system. Runes? Masteries? Talents? Let me know some of your ideas!
Other
Custom games will have more functionality. Think custom rules or features. Should be fun!

Casual game modes like ARAM in League. This could be a fun way to learn character mechanics and interactions with other characters in a low-stress, for-fun environment. It’ll feature things like respawns or quick looting. (Still in the works and may be further down the line.)

Battle pass. We’ve been talking about the Battle Pass for a while. It’ll be lucrative with a lot of skins, emotes, and other stuff. It’ll probably feature things to personalize your ER experience, like emblems, borders, backgrounds, etc.

The most important thing in the battle pass will be the skins. It’ll probably have an uncommon, rare, and epic skin. Rare skins have different effects, while epic skins will likely have unique animations and voice lines. This is all still in the works, so I have no more information to give you all on that. Sorry :(
End
Thanks for reading this short announcement / dev letter!
There was an official stream in Korea the other day discussing all of these new additions and the future of ER. A lot of it was already featured on the Season 3 website, but I wanted to make sure that everyone gets to see everything we’re bringing to you.

Also, in case you missed it, we’re giving out a total of 600 free NP in the form of two coupon codes. Enter these in the in-game settings page and put it towards a new skin!

I, and everyone here at Nimble Neuron, are more appreciative of you all than you could ever imagine! Thank you all so much for playing Eternal Return and I hope you’re all as excited about the future as I am!!
