There is a chance the upcoming Terraria board game could be good

Dig deep, for both mental fortitude and coin, because yet another videogame is getting the cardboard treatment. Paper Fort Games are transmuting beloved mine and craft ‘em up Terraria into a 4 player co-op board game, albeit one that's on the distant horizon. A crowdfunder is coming and the devs “don’t expect” the game will ship this year, but a lucky few did get to try an early alpha prototype at the UK board games expo last weekend. Somewhat surprisingly, they seemed to like it.

Terraria gets dirty in real life with board game adaptation

Terraria 2 news might still be some way off, but we've been graced with a new Terraria game in the meantime - although perhaps not in the traditional sense. The official Terraria board game promises to bring one of the most beloved and best sandbox games to your real-life tabletop, complete with all the biomes, exploration, gear, base building, and Terraria bosses you love (and hate).

Terraria: The Board Game - Coming Soon!

Greetings Terrarians!

We are very excited to at long last be able to reveal that we are working with our good friends at Paper Fort Games on the official Terraria Board Game! As you can imagine, this is a huge project - and not one that we take lightly. This board game adaptation will expand the universe of Terraria by faithfully combining the digital game’s biome exploration, character progression, base building and epic combat with tabletop mechanisms - alongside a fresh new art style - to create a co-operative adventure that will resonate with both long-time fans and novice Terrarians!

"We are very excited to work with Re-Logic; as an indie design studio ourselves, we have deep respect for what such a small team have achieved, their commitment to making the best game possible and their dedication to the Terraria community. We can’t wait to bring the world of Terraria to the tabletop!" - Paper Fort Games

So, now that we have your attention, what's the timeline and the plan for Terraria: the Board Game?
TIMELINE
We expect that Terraria: the Board Game will take a good amount of time to develop and polish in order to land on a fantastic final version. As such, we do not expect it to be available this year (for example). We will narrow down the window more once we get to the crowdfunding stage and we have a better sense for progress and scope to-date.

Also, you can expect to see spoilers from time to time, as is tradition with Terraria!
PURCHASE & CROWDFUNDING
As is common in the Board Game space, this project will utilize crowdfunding to help ensure that the project can hit the scope and quality level that Terraria deserves. Paper Fort Games (and its sister company Stone Sword Games) have a great track record in this space with funding and bringing great games to the market. All of the details around this - timing, amounts, reward levels, etc. will be revealed in the months ahead.
WHAT'S NEXT AND HOW DO YOU KEEP INFORMED
Early alpha prototype: Will be on show at UK Games Expo (UK Games Expo), held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, UK from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th June 2023. You’ll find Paper Fort Games at stand 1-1025. We would love for any Terrarians in the area to stop by, check it out, and let us know what you think!

We have also created a link for interested Terrarians to sign up to be sure that they always get the latest news on Terraria: the Board Game. We have shared this link below - so feel free to go ahead and sign up to be sure that you are in the know!

Terraria Minifigure Preorders Now Open!

Greetings Terrarians!

As you may recall, we teased the Terraria Chibichan minifigures in last month's State of the Game... and we said at the time that more information would be coming up in May. Well, we are very pleased to announce that the awesome first series of these minifigures are now available for preorder over on Terraria.shop! We have all of the juicy details below, so read on to learn more!

TERRARIA CHIBICHAN MINIFIGURES

Terraria Chibichans will be released as series of 12 minifigures at a time, with one Rare figure (so, 13 total in each Series). ach figure is up to 3" tall and made of vinyl, with a unique and consistent art style that helps to look great together. You can head to the preorder page by clicking any image in this post or via the link below:

These will be sold in blind box format - online for now, and hopefully at retailers in the future. We are also offering the ability to purchase the entire set of 12 at once, to allow fans to ensure that they can get them all if they want to with no repeats. The only exception is the Rare Figure - for this set, that is the Gold Goldfish - though anyone purchasing the set of 12 does have a chance that their Goldfish will be Gold!

All that said, what's the lineup for the first wave of figures?

PREORDERS & TIMELINES

We expect that these will ship out to customers sometime in September 2023. After that point, they will remain available on Terraria.shop moving forward.

All pre-orders will receive a free Gold Bunny minifigure (one per order) - these will be exclusive to the pre-order period as a thank you to the fans that pre-order any minifigures.

This Terraria build is a perspective-shifting Stardew Valley tribute

This Terraria build paying tribute to Stardew Valley is so clever that it's still breaking my brain a little bit. While there's a lot of parallels to be drawn between the soothing gathering, building, and organising of two of the best sandbox games on PC, there's an obvious huge difference in their perspective. Yet exploring Lady Forestia's latest Terraria creation, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you were instead looking at the top-down world of Stardew Valley.
