Terraria Graphic Novel Series Revealed!

Greetings Terrarians!

We are beyond thrilled to be able to at long last reveal a project that has been going on behind the scenes for quite some time - the Terraria Graphic Novel series! We here at Re-Logic have been working closely with our partners at 50 Amp Productions on all aspects of the graphic novels - from script to lineart to coloring and more, we really feel like these are a perfect balance between staying authentic to the Terraria experience while taking enough creative license to be able to craft an engaging story within the Terraria universe.

We are nearly finished with Book One in the series, and we wanted to give you a sneak peek (well... beyond the one we gave you in June's State of the Game) at what is to come. Each Book will contain four parts... and this is the cover art for Terraria - Book One, Issue One.

(Cover art is final, but the team is working on a new custom logo for this series - so the Terraria Logo here is just a WIP/Placeholder using our in-game logo)

Outside of working on Terraria itself, this is maybe the most excited we have been for any project we have been involved with thus far. We have high hopes and big plans here, should these do well enough and meet with the approval of the Terraria Community.

The rollout plan is still under discussion, and we will have more details on that very soon. However, we can share that the current plan is to make Issues 1-4 available as standalone items (both with and without some other really cool collectibles that we are developing as a part of the package) starting in Q3 of this year and continuing through the end of 2022. We will then have the entire Book One available as a completed piece along with some special additions in early 2023. We would then begin work on Book Two and so on.

Now, of course, we will always maintain that the Terraria story is as open ended as the players themselves - so view this as just one possible take of the limitless stories that could be told about the who, what, and why behind what happens in the world of Terraria. That said, we think it is a pretty good one - and one that we are hoping and looking to expand upon in future books in the series. How far we will be able to go here, of course, depends on your support! The more successful these are or become, the further we can take the story... and who knows, maybe we could one day explore having these adapted as a streaming series or more.

We hope you are all as excited as we are about Terraria finally getting the legit Graphic Novel treatment and are intrigued to see the story thus far... and where it might take us all.

Cheers!

Terraria State of the Game - June 2022

Greetings Terrarians!

We don't know about you, but the heat this summer has been brutal so far to us! Sounds like a good excuse to grab some gaming time and catch up on the latest and greatest Terraria news, right? Development work on the Labor of Love update is in full swing across both the Re-Logic and DR Studios teams - and we are really excited for some of the juicy spoilers that we have in store for you this month (on top of those we have already shared this month in case you missed them on our socials). That said, grab a cold beverage, cool off, and settle in for this month's State of the Game!

PC - RE-LOGIC
TERRARIA - LABOR OF LOVE UPDATE
Labor of Love really feels like it is living up to its name more and more as each week of development goes by. The team has conducted a couple of playthroughs along the way, and we have found these to be some of the more fun and unique sessions that we have had for years. We have shared a lot of what is going into this update thus far, but rest assured that we have held some rather substantial changes and additions close to the vest as is tradition. We have a bit more to share this month... but some things you will have to discover yourself when Labor of Love launches.

No, we still do not have a date to give you - but we do see the light at the end of the tunnel...

Spoilers though? We've got one for you!

Wow, when you guys said you were going to be transparent with us about the new update, you weren't kidding!
STEAM WORKSHOP NEWS
Click the banner above to check out the Terraria Workshop!

Another month and another 1000 additions to the Workshop - with over 57,000 packs and worlds so far, you are missing out if you haven't taken the time to check out the Workshop yet.

We hope to get around to doing some "summer cleaning" of the Workshop once Labor of Love settles down a bit. If you get what we mean. (some of this has already begun)
WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
Right now, the core focus of the time is the final push to get Labor of Love done to what we have as the vision for the update. Still have that one eye on the future though.

TMODLOADER NEWS - TML TEAM

Hello everyone!

On June 2, 2022, we launched tModLoader for Terraria 1.4+ to Terrarians everywhere. This was the result of countless hours of hard work by the TML Team and many other contributors over the span of nearly two years, and the team is beyond thrilled to have TML 1.4 in your hands. We specifically want to recognize the following folks whom have made invaluable contributions to the TML project since Journey's End released in 2020:

direwolf420, Chik3r, ExterminatorX99, ThomasThePencil, Itorius, Steviegt6, Rartrin, Agrair, Ishigh1, DarkLight66, DarioDaF, kittenchilly, Dual-Iron, MrSlimeDude, sgkoishi, OliHeamon, RighteousRyan1, Igmc, NotLe0n, Pixelnando, daim03, fakelag, andrewlord607, pollen00, einarmo, Setnour6, MutantWafflez, Ozzatron, Antirhinnum, CriddleZap, jackbondpreston, Pbone3, ModernMAK, Crapsky233, absoluteAquarian, rjmarzec, ubnt-intrepid, ScalarVector1, Pacnysam, Falcon-05, staticfox, JPANv2, Nyrest, Naginif, D1plex, georgewoodall82, Tyfyter, zzp198, SpencerDawg, RunningDroid, Trivaxy, SadOnion, miarodri, sdegueldre, JamzOhJamz, Ved-s, BarteQ778177, Lumelore, RuneZhevitz, Dinoxel, jjohnsnaill, xKirtle, MikhailMCraft, terrynmuse, hannest03, Fatiz, Valjean42, TomaszOleszko, Rijam, IbanPlay, Fragstiller, S-Pladison
TMODLOADER STEAM WORKSHOP
The launch of TML 1.4 also allowed the team to bring the tModLoader Steam Workshop online. We have already seen nearly 1,400 mods make their way onto the Workshop in the first month alone, with some of the more well-known mods being added to the Workshop in recent days. Coupled with the in-game mod browser, the TML Steam Workshop is a great way to explore what modded Terraria has to offer - check it out today by clicking the banner above!
TMODLOADER 1.3 STILL AVAILABLE
Of course, the developers behind each individual Terraria mod will need to update their mods to the 1.4 era, so hang with them while that process takes place. We also realize that some older mods that are no longer in development may never make the leap to the 1.4 era. Given that, we have kept the 1.3.5 version of TML playable
How do I switch to back to 1.3 tModLoader?
1. Right click on tModLoader in Steam and select 'Properties...', then 'BETAS';
2. Select '1.3-legacy' in the drop-down menu on top;
3. Close the window. You don't need to type any passwords!
WHAT'S NEXT FOR TML?
One of the biggest priorities this last month has been to rapidly respond to release issues, and fix several of the bugs that users are seeing.

We hope the upcoming July stable release will fix a large portion, but we know there is still more to do and are actively working to resolve several. We appreciate everyone's patience as we pursue a better modloader!

Our other big priority this month was fleshing out tModPorter.

This custom software, bundled with tModLoader, provides the capability to quickly bring a 1.3 mod to majority ported to 1.4.

Further still, it will also be the primary tool we provide so modders can do the minor porting for code on each monthly release moving forward.

We hope that all modders take advantage of this tool to make their lives easier, and if you have improvements, don't hesitate to reach out in our discord.

As always, you can keep track the current progress and such more in real time at tModLoader/tModLoader (But note that the completion percentage doesn't mean anything, because issues and PRs don't have weights.)

Developers who are willing to contribute may do so by doing PRs to the tModLoader/tModLoader branch. (See tModLoader/tModLoader)

PlayStation, XBOX, Nintendo Switch, Mobile - DR STUDIOS

The team at DR Studios has been feverishly working to try and keep pace with the development of Labor of Love that is taking place on the PC side of things. Yes, in case you missed last month's State of the Game, we have already begun active development of Labor of Love for Console and Mobile. In addition, earlier in June we shared a "first look" spoiler on Mobile (which you will find below!) - the first time that brand new Terraria content/features have been shown on anything other than PC. Well, we don't want our Console Terrarians feeling left out - so here's another first look at a brand new feature coming to Terraria when Labor of Love is available...

No longer contained to blocks alone, the Banners finally broke free - able to be in full display on platforms and stairs alike!

So yeah, like we were saying, after years of playing catch-up, it is such a fun time to be able to work on Mobile (and Console) in parallel to the ongoing work on PC. What's that? You missed the Mobile spoiler earlier this month? Well, allow us to share it once again below...

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Thanks as always for the honor and trust you give us each month to work on Terraria - it is not a responsibility that we take lightly, and we look forward to bringing more amazing things to you all as we move forward.

New Terraria item helps you stop evil biomes from spreading

Terraria is getting a new sight potion, and it reveals the sandbox game's dreaded evil biomes. The new item should help players prevent corrupted landscapes from infecting the world map, a hardmode feature that transforms the map into a pixelated hell.

Re-logic's head of marketing, Ted "Loki" Murphy, shows off the new Terraria sight potion in a short clip, with the item seemingly revealing the presence of evil biomes such as the corruption and the crimson underground. Doing so enables the player to purge the tainted areas using a Clentaminator, a steampunk style gun that can be used in the game's hard mode to create and destroy ecosystems.

In response to the Terraria potion reveal, fans are heralding the item as a game-changer. The handy beverage should help hardmode players eliminate every patch of sinister soil on the world map, ultimately curbing evil from showing up at your base door. One player suggests it could even improve the experience for colourblind adventurers, as it makes hallowed and normal stone more distinguishable in low light conditions.

Fan's Lego Terraria build tackles bosses, mining escapades

Lego tributes are a popular way for fans to show love to their favourite games, and one crafting game enthusiast has done exactly that with a Lego Terraria build that they've been gradually fleshing out. Reddit user aaadvancednerd started off with a tiny little house concept based on the indie game and has gradually added more to their design in incremental chunks, building out a large scene over multiple instalments.

The first build aaadvancednerd posted to the RPG game's subreddit was a simple house with four walls, a chair, table, and crafting bench. It features the game's guide hiding inside while another figure tackles several slime enemies atop the structure's roof. The post proved popular, inspiring them to follow up with a scene of an armoured character holding off several zombies and flying demon eyes.

Fans responded that they'd particularly like to see the large Eye of Cthulhu boss recreated - and aaadvancednerd responded with an impressive design of two figures facing off against the giant, toothy monster. Their attention to detail is notable, closely replicating common build tricks and combat arena layouts used by players, and the builds make clever use of all manner of bricks and individual Lego studs to approximate the game's textures.

Ex Minecraft modder hired to work on Terraria mod tools

A prominent former Minecraft modder has landed a dream job: helping modders make more mods. The twist is, it's for a different sandbox game. It's no worry, however: modder Chicken Bones is now working officially as part of the Terraria development team, and he's got plenty of history with Terraria modding to draw from, too.

Chicken Bones created popular Minecraft mods like Ender Storage and Translocators, as well as Not Enough Items - which is on our very own list of the best Minecraft mods. He's also been building Terraria mods since 2015, when he switched over from Minecraft modding.

In the latest Terraria State of the Game post, Re-Logic's head of business strategy Ted 'Loki' Murphy offers Chicken Bones a warm welcome, and explains a bit of what he'll be doing on the Terraria team. "He has already been working hard alongside our core team, with a current focus aimed primarily on the development of tModLoader and tModPorter," Murphy writes. These tools allow players to use and port mods into Terraria, somewhat similar to the Script Extender mods for Skyrim and Fallout 4.
