Early Access Patch 008: The Rocked Us Like A Hurricane Patch – 6th June 2020

Apologies for the patch being a day late. Our city was hit by a cyclone for the first in 130 odd years (2020 is the gift that keeps on giving) and it impacted the team in a variety of ways. The highlight of this patch is the culmination of all the camera controls and control schemes work we have been doing. The default key bindings have changed to the more standard WASD for camera, for example. The aiming scheme has been changed from Bowstring to Click by default as well. These changes were highly requested, and we believe will be more familiar to newcomers as well. The tutorials reflect any changes made.

Controls and Key Bindings
Default controls have been changed. WASD pans the camera, Artillery Cannon has been moved to F, throttle controls have been moved to L Shift and L Control.
Key Bindings are much neater and broken up into sections.
Reseting to default inputs now work as intended.

Tutorials
Tutorials reflect the changes to the default controls.
We have disabled the ability to produce a second AMP in the tutorial sections for now. The second AMP was not triggering a lot of tutorial conditions, so it’s been temporarily disabled. Thanks Zpajro!

UI
Various missing tooltips have been added in. We intend to change the aesthetics and organization of information of the tooltips further in the near future.

Camera Controls
Camera tilt is now added in, allowing players to finally zoom, rotate and tilt the camera. Players should have much better control over the camera than two weeks ago.
Tilt sensitivity is another option added to the settings.
You can now go to Satellite View while aiming.

Bugs
Client crash when starting a multiplayer game, now fixed – Thanks ZubZeroHMG and Aliencobra
Occasionally the join game button in multiplayer lobby would freeze and be unclickable, now fixed.
Music now stops after the game ends.
Switching between facility and an AMP no longer bricks shooting.
AI trains are shooting at the center of the map when they had no targets to aim at, this has now been fixed.

Our Update Schedule

Hello!

As we move past the two week mark of our launch, we've had a moment to breathe and we're taking a look at our processes. We've been moving rather quickly up until now, and our last couple of patches didn't get the level of testing and quality control we'd like. A couple of crashes that should've been caught weren't due to our desire to push out highly requested features as quickly as possible.

Thus, we're moving to a weekly schedule from this week onward. Currently, we plan on uploading new content and bug fixes every Friday. This will give us a couple of days to properly test and ensure obvious mistakes do not make it into the live build. While we cannot guarantee bug-free patches (obviously), this will drastically cut down the number of bugs that do make it in. It also allows us to have one chunky patch instead of 2 or 3 smaller ones through the week, and will hopefully mean you know when to expect something new instead of having to fire up the game or check out Discord or the Steam Forums to check out the Change Logs.

This week's patch is relatively smaller in terms of content of bug fixes as we've switched to this method halfway through the week, but next week onward you can expect far more. You can check out our Trello board here (https://trello.com/b/gEpOPQd6/miners-mettle-roadmap) for more info on what we're working on currently.

Thank you!

Edit: For when things do sneak through and we need to deploy a hotfix for it, we won't wait a week; we'll push the fix live as soon as we build and test it.

Camera Controls
Rotation is now free form, instead of rotating by 90 degrees at a time, players have far more control. We’ve also added rotation controls to the mouse – middle mouse button controls rotation. You can set your middle mouse button to either hold, or toggle, in the settings, as well as control the sensitivity.

Tutorials
We’ve added in more sections to the tutorial to further teach the game basics. Research, Unit Basics, and camera controls are now in.

Gameplay
We’ve now set the sound rings from hostile units firing to be flush to the ground in World View (this was already the case in Satellite View). This will help players to pinpoint their location more accurately.
The first shot in a game often placed the aiming reticle to the extreme right of the train instead of towards the center as other shots typically do. This has been fixed.

Our Detailed Roadmap

Hello Pilots!

Now that our first week of Early Access is behind us, we've been getting asked about what's coming next for Miner's Mettle. What our plans are.

We've been working on our detailed roadmap on Trello, which we've just made public. You can find it here: https://trello.com/b/gEpOPQd6/miners-mettle-roadmap

This roadmap could have even more detail to it, but we've left it a bit ambiguous to allow us some flexibility when it comes to the actual features and the timeline. It's also not necessarily fully complete, there are some features planned that are not on there, or are currently aggregated until they move to the Coming Soon section (abilities and facilities in particular).

Thank you!
