'83 - Developer Tapes #5 - Community Feedback & Updates

[p]Since Steam Next Fest, the team has been hard at work digging into your feedback, reviewing performance data, and translating it into meaningful improvements. Your input has been incredibly valuable, and we want to thank everyone who took the time to play the demo, leave reviews, speak to us directly, and help shape the game’s direction. [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]Priorities Since the Demo [/p][p]Our focus since the demo has been clear: fix the fundamentals. That means tightening up core systems, improving stability, and making the game feel more polished across the board. [/p][p]Here are the key areas we’re addressing: [/p][p][/p][p]Gunplay 
We’re actively tuning weapon handling including recoil, feedback, and aiming dynamics. A key update since the demo is the addition of camera shake, bringing a more grounded feel to firefights. Recoil will continue to evolve as we get closer to Early Access. [/p][p][/p][p]Movement & Animation 
We've already implemented significant improvements to prone behaviour, with ongoing work focused on smoother transitions, better terrain alignment, and more natural movement throughout. More animation updates are ongoing across the board to enhance overall fluidity. [/p][p][/p][p]UI Overhaul 
The UI was one of the biggest points of feedback, and we agree it needed work. A full replacement of the old UI was already underway during the demo, and we’re on track to have a much-improved version ready for Early Access.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Visual Fidelity & Stability 
We’ve already made big strides in lighting and texture work that not only improve the look of the game, but also help reduce crashes related to VRAM usage that some players ran into during the demo. [/p][p]Beyond just working on the underlying systems, we've already started implementing visible upgrades to content seen in the demo. [/p][p][/p][p]Content Updates [/p][p]We’ve already started upgrading some of the assets you saw in the demo. Updated models, textures, and animations are now in for the following weapons: [/p]

[p]This is just the beginning of a full visual pass across all weapons, gear, and vehicles, ensuring accuracy while also increasing visual fidelity. [/p][p]We’ve also adjusted the lighting on our Fjord map shifting to a daytime setup to improve visibility and enhance tactical opportunities. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Early Destructibility System [/p][p]One of the more exciting new features we’ve introduced is a basic destructibility system which is already making a noticeable difference to how battles unfold. [/p]
  • [p]Vehicles can now tear through fences, haybales, and sandbags. [/p]
  • [p]Players can break through windows whether charging in or diving out. [/p]
  • [p]Bullets and grenades can shatter glass, and have a real, visible impact on the world around you. [/p]
  • [p]Artillery barrages can destroy fences and windows, adding weight to bombardments. [/p]
[p]We'll continue to refine the destructibility system, focusing on polishing interactions, improving feedback, and ensuring it adds meaningful impact to gameplay. [/p][p][/p][p]Ongoing Fixes & Backend Improvements [/p][p]We’ve made progress on many bugs reported during Next Fest, from UI and animation sync issues to server connection problems. Server handling has also been improved to reduce connection errors and joining issues. [/p][p][/p][p]What’s Next? [/p][p]Development continues at a rapid pace. 83 - Early Access Release Pushed into 2026

[p][/p][p]First off, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to jump into the ’83 Next Fest demo, shared feedback, completed surveys, posted on the forums, and chatted with us directly on Discord. Your continued support and honest down-to-earth feedback have been invaluable for us when deciding our next steps for ‘83. [/p][p]Following overwhelming feedback on the Steam Next Fest demo, we’ve made the decision to shift our Early Access release of ’83 out of 2025 and into early 2026. We believe in ‘83 and are committed to doing what’s best for both the project and our community. [/p][p]We’re using this additional development time to focus on key areas the community told us matter most: [/p]

[p]Welcome back to our series of Developer Tapes leading up to our early access launch. But that’s just one of the warzones coming to Early Access. [/p][p]Today, we’re taking a deeper look at the full lineup of maps available at early access launch, each built for dynamic gameplay, and each grounded in the grim reality of an alternate-history Cold War gone hot. [/p][p]In ‘83, the front lines stretch across a divided Europe, as NATO and Warsaw Pact forces clash in a brutal conventional war that teeters on the edge of nuclear catastrophe. These battlefields are crafted from deeply researched Cold War flashpoints, each with its own identity, threats, and tactical challenges. [/p][p]Here’s your first recon briefing on the launch maps: [/p][p][/p][h3]Fulda Gap - West Germany [/h3][p][/p][p]If there was ever a point where World War III was expected to begin, this was it. [/p][p]In our 1983, the Fulda Gap is no longer a hypothetical flashpoint, it’s the crucible of modern armoured warfare. Soviet forces have launched a massive offensive into West Germany through this key corridor, backed by tanks, artillery, and mechanized infantry. NATO units are scrambling to halt the advance. [/p][p]Rolling hills, fortified towns, dense forests, and exposed plains create a volatile combat zone. Expect layered defenses, ambushes, and shifting front lines. Whether you’re holding chokepoints with AT squads or coordinating armored counter-offensives, Fulda is where scale and strategy collide. [/p][p][/p][h3]Fjord - Norway [/h3][p][/p][p]To the north, the Cold War turns colder. [/p][p]Norway’s coastline becomes the next critical front as the Soviets aim to dominate the North Atlantic. Their goal: disrupt NATO naval movements, control key sea lanes, and isolate Western Europe. In this timeline, the invasion has already begun. [/p][p]The Norwegian map is all about verticality and terrain mastery. Set against a backdrop of icy cliffs, fjords, and military harbours, this map demands flexibility. From mountain bunkers to coastal strongholds, it's a brutal back-and-forth battle for naval superiority and strategic control. [/p][p][/p][h3]Woodpecker - Ukrainian SSR [/h3][p][/p][p]Deep within the forests near Chernobyl lies the towering Duga radar system that NATO codenamed "Woodpecker". In '83, this is a key command-and-control hub for the Soviet early warning system. [/p][p]This is a map of sabotage and stealth. NATO forces must launch a daring raid behind enemy lines, targeting one of the most heavily defended sites in the Soviet arsenal. Open woodland gives way to claustrophobic radar interiors, forcing players to shift between long-range tactics and close-quarters engagements. Coordination and timing are everything. [/p][p][/p][h3]Three Maps. Three Fronts. [/p][h2]NextFest Demo FAQ[/h2][p][/p][p]What is ’83? [/p][p]’83 is a Cold War–gone–hot, combined-arms, first-person tactical shooter that pits two teams of players against each other in massive battles across sprawling maps, fighting over objectives designed to reward the team with better strategy, coordination, and teamwork to seize the day. [/p][p]Designed with accessible realism for the most enjoyable experience that gets you to the action fast without losing that realistic feel and depiction of the true lethality of war. [/p][p][/p][p]What can I expect in the Next Fest Demo? [/p][p]The Next Fest demo will feature one of the three maps that will be available at our Early Access launch, the Norwegian Fjord. A rugged, mountainous environment that offers vertical gameplay, dense terrain, and brutal chokepoints. It’s the smallest of the three maps planned for Early Access, making it ideal for fast-paced, objective-driven combat. [/p][p]The mode on offer is Assault, a two-round, objective-based battle inspired by the fan-favorite ‘Territories’ mode from Rising Storm. One team attacks, attempting to capture a series of objectives in sequence, while the defenders must hold their ground until the timer runs out, a lockdown is triggered, or the attackers run out of reinforcement tickets. Teams will then switch sides for a second round. [/p][p]Please be aware that the build you will play is a work-in-progress and you can expect to see some unfinished assets & UI elements, missing textures and encounter some bugs. And while this demo represents just a slice of what '83 will offer at Early Access launch, it’s built to give players a feel for the core mechanics, tight squad-based coordination, role-based gameplay, and the relentless push-pull of Cold War combat. [/p][p][/p][p]Why are the servers limited to 30v30, while the Steam page advertises 40v40? [/p][p]It's important for us to ensure a smooth playing experience for all our players during the Next Fest demo. To ensure this, we have temporarily lowered the player count to a max of 60 as there still is ongoing optimisation work to support 80 players . [/p][p]This is a temporary measure for testing purposes only, the Early Access release is still planned to support 80 player, 40v40 servers.  [/p][p][/p][p]What Factions and Classes will be available? [/p][p]In the Next Fest demo, you’ll be able to play as either the United States Army or the Soviet Ground Forces, the two core factions available in 83’s Early Access launch. [/p][p]Each faction offers a distinct tactical flavour, with historically grounded weapons and gear that reflect their Cold War doctrine. The demo includes a selection of core infantry roles such as Rifleman, Machine Gunner, Marksman, Grenadier, and Anti-Tank, as well as Squad Leader and Commander roles for those looking to coordinate the action or take strategic control of the battlefield. [/p][p][/p][p]How long does a match last? [/p][p]‘83 has been designed to be mindful of your time, with matches lasting around 30-40 minutes. [/p][p][/p][p]How will the demo differ from the early access release? [/p][p]The early access release will feature: [/p]
