Update 1.0893 is live!

Hi everyone - a few days ago we tried to update Trombone Champ, but the update created some pretty big conflicts with Trombloader, a fundamental mod that lots of users rely on!

We worked on the update a bit more, and there should be no game-breaking issues. However, some mods may still need to be updated, such as InputFix. Please check with the modding community if anything seems off!

We've also added a new branch in Steam that allows you to play the previous version of the game. If you absolutely need the last version, just right click Trombone Champ, click Properties, click Betas, and choose "previous_version" in the dropdown. So, if some mods you absolutely need are currently busted, they should hopefully work with that branch!

This update brings a few small but nice changes:

  • The popping/clicking sounds that would sometimes happen when releasing a note should now be gone. Previously, the game would stop trombone sounds. Now, it fades them out very quickly.
  • Negative scores should no longer be possible. For a variety of reasons, it was possible to get negative scores in earlier versions of the game. This is kind of funny and we were tempted to leave it in, but weird glitches would sometimes lead to enormous negative scores, which would make the user lose toots at the end of a track. Now, you should never be able to get below a zero for both an individual note and as the total score.
  • The plus and minus keys allow you to increase / decrease the volume of the backing track during gameplay. If a specific song is too loud or quiet, you can easily adjust it on the fly. At the moment, this setting is not saved per-track... maybe in a later update!
  • A few more tiny tweaks and fixes!

We may take a break with incremental updates through the holidays, and instead focus on bigger updates that we've been working on for a while! Thank you for your patience and happy tooting.

Rolled back update 1.0891!

Hello - we'd previously pushed a small update, but it turns out this created a pretty major conflict with some of the core mods, so we've temporarily rolled it back. If you installed 1.0891 and can't hear trombone sounds, try restarting Steam - there should be a new "update" available, which basically restores the previous version.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

1.089 is live, with Holiday Tracks!

v1.089 is live! This update doesn't do much in terms of bugfixes or new features - it mainly adds two holiday tracks, including a new track from the legendary Max Tundra! Also, the tromboners wear cute holiday costumes when you play these tracks.

  • Jingle Bells (Jazz Mix): A fun jazzy take on Jingle Bells!
  • Max Tundra's Silent Night: An epic electronic take on Silent Night! This also features the first tempo change in the game!

This update also updates how score averages are calculated, which should make short notes even more forgiving. This should not significantly affect any of the core tracks in the game, but you may notice that certain notes may yield higher scores.

We have more updates in progress - really good ones! - and hope to launch them asap! This update is mostly about launching the holiday stuff.

Hope you enjoy it!

v1.088 is live!

v1.088 of Trombone Champ is live! Here's what's up in this version:

  1. New tracks: "Taps" and "La Marseillaise!"
  2. More performance optimizations.
  3. Very short notes should now tally their points correctly and have a unique display.
  4. Added a display of total toots to the score screen.
  5. Added shortcuts to card collection + baboon screens from the score screen.
  6. If your settings file becomes corrupted for any reason, the game should now create a new file rather than softlocking on launch.

Mod alert!!! Nothing in this update should completely break the game, but some mods may need to be updated:

  • The way scores are calculated has been changed very slightly to accommodate short notes. A lot of custom tracks created by users contained very short notes which would always give the user a score of 0. That should now be fixed, but any mods that display score data or work with scoring may need slight adjustments.
  • The screen that displays your score has been updated, so any mods that add stuff to that screen may need updating.

More updates on the way, as always! Thank you for your continued patience!

v1.087 is live!

Build 1.087 is now live! This one does the following:

  • New track: "Sakura Sakura"
  • Significant performance optimizations during gameplay. If the game would sometimes stutter for you, or your framerate wasn't great, this should potentially help quite a bit.
  • You can now specify a target framerate in the Graphics Settings panel.
  • You can now mute the music that plays in the main menus via a tiny button in the corner of the screen.
  • You can now use the control key to toot.
  • More stuff behind the scenes.

More updates are on their way... there are a few very large updates we're working on behind the scenes. Thank you for your continued patience and happy tooting!
