Tips From Aeternum: Just Say Hi

Greetings, Adventurers!

Typing in chat, grouping up, and other first interactions can intimidate some players. Figuring out what to say is often the hardest part, but there’s a simple solution — just say hi. New World content creator ItsHilaryMason and her boyfriend Steven’s relationship started with just the word hi. Their “love forged in Aeternum” provides tips for how good intentions always help when talking to anyone for the first time. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we spoke with them about their first impressions, romantic quests, and playing together.
THE GABAGOOL GOBBLERS ENTER CALNOGOR
“My Company Gabagool Gobblers started on a server called Cantref Gwaelod,” Steven said. “We had kind of taken over the whole server, so when server tokens came out, we wanted to find a server where Syndicate didn’t own much. We did our research and picked a server where only one territory was purple, Calnogor. That one territory was governed by Hilary, who promptly reached out after we’d transferred. I saw her as a strong-willed natural born leader.”

"They were a big Syndicate Company and one of the first transfers onto the server, so I’d taken it upon myself as a Governor of another Syndicate Company to go say hello," Hilary said. "As soon as we met, Steven was all about helping out others on the server - which he immediately did. Though we didn’t know each other super well at that point, I could tell he was the type of person that you’d want to have as a friend. I also thought he was ridiculously funny."
AFTER ALL, WE’VE NEVER LOST A WAR
“My main role was a tank, but when I first came onto the server I had been jokingly trying out healer,” Steven said. “Hilary then slotted me as a healer on the ramparts in my first War with her Company. I was bottom of the leaderboard, for sure. But I chucked out beacons and shot the cannons! I made sure she knew I was a tank for the next one.”

“Steven is a very effective shot caller for Wars, always leading with a smile and a joke,“ Hilary said. I remember planning a War for my Company with his help pretty early on. It actually secured the territory for us. I’ll never forget the classic line he’d use before each War started, ‘After all, we’ve never lost a War.‘ While that wasn’t always true, there was a real comfort in knowing he was leading the charge.”
FINDING FRIENDSHIP
“While we were playing the game, we spent a lot of time working together and dealing with various issues in our respective Companies,“ Hilary said. ”This led to us often spending a lot of time discussing our thoughts and concerns which paved the way for us to forge a really strong friendship that branched out from just talking about New World into our real everyday lives. He became my best friend - and I don't know a better place from which to build a healthy and happy relationship from!“

“Working together to help keep the server healthy and balanced meant that we spent a lot of time together which was when I started to see her as much more than just another person I was playing with,” Steven said.
LOVE FORGED IN AETERNUM
“I think the most romantic thing Steven has ever done in New World was running Dynasty Mutators with me over and over and over again while I grinded to get the Glowing Crystal Life Staff,” Hilary said. “It took forever to get it, but he was there with a supportive attitude the whole time. Steven didn’t tell me he’d gotten multiple by the time I got my first until after mine dropped - true love!”

"I would do it again in a heartbeat if you needed me to," Steven said. "But please don't make me do that again (laughs)."

“Initially, we were governors of our own Companies and we always had that separation,“ Hilary said. ”When we play now, we work together through everything, including leading Companies together. It is really nice to know that we have each other to bounce ideas off of and make decisions with, even when we don't entirely agree.“

"We definitely make a better company together than we ever did apart," Steven said.
TIPS FOR TALKING TO OTHER PLAYERS
“I met Steven because I just said hi,” Hilary said. “People are usually really receptive when you come from a place of kindness. I always make it a point to say hi in every piece of content I do with other Adventurers. You never know who you are going to meet or what they might mean to you a year down the line!”

“People are playing New World to have fun, so don’t be afraid to speak up in chat,” Steven said. “My original Company was formed by just sending messages and invites to anyone I saw without a Company. The worst someone can do is ignore you and move on, but at best it might lead to something great.”

Follow ItsHilaryMason on Twitter and Twitch for more fun New World experiences. Thanks for your support! We’ll see you in the Aeternum chat.

Leaderboards

Greetings, Adventurers!

Carve your name into the history of Aeternum when Leaderboards launch on February 7. This new feature will recognize players, Companies, and Factions across more than 50 categories. Whether you prefer PvP, PvE, or just want to show off your Fishing skills, there’s something for every type of competitive player. Finish at the top of select weekly or quarterly Leaderboard categories for exclusive skins and titles. Which title will you claim?
Rewards
Outperform other players for more than 20 exclusive skins and titles. Game Designer Rachel Barnum shared some insight into the reward selection.
Example Titles and Skins
Title and skin rewards vary based on each category and placement. Check out the in-game Leaderboards for their exact requirements. The following examples use the Mutated Expedition Score category as a reference:

Top 5 Finisher: (Expedition Name) Victor
Title: Dynasty Victor

Top 25 Finisher: (Expedition Name) Medalist
Title: Dynasty Medalist

Top 5 Finisher: Conqueror of (Expedition Name)
Skin: Conqueror of the Dynasty Shipyard

Top 25 Finisher: Hero of (Expedition Name)
Skin: Hero of the Dynasty Shipyard

The picture below shows a Corrupted Breaches skin on the left, an Outpost Rush skin on the right, and a gold chest for any top tier finishers in the center.
Categories
“The primary goal of Leaderboards is to celebrate players’ accomplishments beyond single game modes or points in time,” Rachel said. “We went through all of the activities that New World has to offer and chose the ones that would best suit Leaderboards, such as Outpost Rush and War. We did have to balance against categories that may encourage bad or unhealthy behavior. For example, we originally had Gathering boards but these would have turned into excessive ‘grind boards.’ There were many ideas like Gathering that are generally better suited to personal stats for fun, rather than competing with others for the top spot.“

The Leaderboards screen is accessible through the Navigation bar in the menu under Modes. Look for the Leaderboards Tab to see which of the following categories offer rewards. Categories rotate either weekly, monthly, or quarterly and are for individual players and Worlds unless otherwise noted. Global categories will be implemented in a future update.

PTR: Leaderboards

Greetings, Adventurers!

Aeternum is an ever-evolving world, and as such, we continue our efforts in providing an assortment of ongoing new features, content, and changes. Similar to the activities leading up to our latest major update, we are approaching the release of Leaderboards and would like to invite you all to participate in the next cycle of our Public Test Realm (PTR)!
PTR
The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a limited-availability server-set that grants an early look at upcoming features. These preview builds are snapshots of upcoming major releases and are not final versions — you may encounter bugs, crashes, missing text, or other issues. Between our internal testing efforts and your reports, we hope to catch and resolve all serious issues before they reach the live servers. Hundreds of changes have already been made — with more to come — and the full release notes will be shared on release day. However, not every bug or feedback piece will be actioned on before release — some changes need time to be investigated further, and may arrive in a subsequent patch or two.

To help with the feedback process, all newly created PTR characters will have the opportunity to instantly level to select level-ranges outfitted with appropriate gear and items.

The PTR will officially open tomorrow, January 19 at 1 PM PDT. If you encounter a bug, exploit, or have suggestions to improve a feature or piece of content, we’d love to hear your feedback on our PTR sub-forum (you can also utilize our in-game feedback tool). We will do our best to address as much of your feedback as possible before the content update makes its way to our live servers. Your participation will help us to deliver awesome content and updates in the future!
LEADERBOARDS
Leaderboards will recognize players, Companies, and Factions across the following categories:
 • Mutated Expeditions
 • Faction War
 • Vs. Environment
 • Vs. Players
 • Trade Skills

Every category contains subcategories. For example, Faction War includes Territory Control Score. Finish at the top of any weekly, monthly, or quarterly Leaderboard rotation for exclusive skins and titles. Rewards cannot be earned in the PTR.

The Leaderboards screen is accessible through the Navigation bar in the menu under Modes. Look for the Leaderboards Tab to see how you compare to the competition.
PTR CLIENT ACCESS
This special preview client will be made available for download through the stand-alone Steam application, “New World Public Test Realm” (which should already be in your Steam library if you own the main game). When the test period is complete and the main New World game is updated with the previewed content, the PTR world will shut down and may be wiped clean. You will continue to see the New World PTR application in your Steam library, but there will not be an active server until the next time we announce a public test
PTR BACKSTORY LOADOUTS
Upon character creation on the PTR, players will be given multiple caches of special armor and weapons. Each cache has a designation based upon a general build and a main attribute: CON, DEX, INT, FOC, and STR.

To help manage the sudden onset of new items, do not open all provided caches at once, or you’ll risk becoming encumbered! Instead, equip all provided bags and then follow-up with opening each cache deliberately. Any undesired caches can be dropped or deposited into your personal settlement storage.
PTR FAQ

HOW DO I ACCESS THE NEW PTR?
Everyone with a copy of New World will be automatically granted access to the secondary PTR app. The PTR is not compatible with the live game, so you will need to download a separate client (and have the hard drive space required to support it). From there, we will have special worlds available within supported regions. Not all regions will initially be supported. Access is on a first come, first served basis. There may be queues.
CAN I PLAY WITH OR TRANSFER MY LIVE CHARACTERS TO THE PTR?
Unfortunately, no. These are separate ecosystems, so at this time it is not possible. However, to make testing easier, we will occasionally provide our play-testers with special accommodations such as instant levels, special gear, etc.
CAN I PROVIDE DESIGN FEEDBACK REGARDING WHAT’S INCLUDED ON THE PTR?
Preview game builds on the PTR are finished with their core development and are in their final phase of testing and bug fixing. Our main focus at this phase is improving quality, although we will appreciate any feedback you have to share.
I HAVE A PROBLEM; HOW CAN I CONTACT CUSTOMER SUPPORT?
Our policies and Code of Conduct cover the PTR, and in-game moderation will continue to be supported. Unfortunately, due to the temporary and potentially unstable nature of the PTR, general Customer Service assistance through both Live Chat and through the Support Website will not be available.
I DON’T WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PTR, CAN I REMOVE THE APP FROM MY LIBRARY?
Don’t worry, no offense taken. Players can manage visibility of the New World Public Test Realm Steam Library entry. Opening up the game options (right-click > Manage) offers the “Hide Game” function.

Thanks for your support and participation! We'll see you in Aeternum.

 • Fixed an issue that caused the Mutated version of the Starstone Barrows Expedition to not drop Sapphire Gypsum upon completion for eligible players.
REWARDS/LOOT
• Juniper Berries are back this winter. Any time an enemy drops loot, there is an additional 50% chance that they will also drop a bag of Juniper Berries, Coin, and for level 60 players, Diamond Gypsum. These drops are limited to 3 Juniper bags daily.

 • Fixed an issue where Shields would have 5 perks when rolling a 600 Gear Score.

 • Re-enabled loot for several Brimstone Sands mobs that previously spawned too quickly.
UX/UI

IN-GAME STORE
• Fixed a visual issue with the Winter Wanderer's Flowing Cloak apparel.
 • Fixed an issue where dyes on Shields were being incorrectly applied to in-game store Shield skins. Players that had dyes applied to Shields will still have the dye applied to the base item but not the skin.
NOTABLE FIXES
• Fixed a crash that sometimes happened in Outpost Rush when interacting with turrets.
SOCIAL

NOTABLE FIXES
