New World server transfers have been temporarily disabled

A recently discovered bug in Amazon Games' new MMORPG New World has led to the developers disabling world transfers for the time being. The studio says the "recently discovered issue" has been "exacerbated" by the transfer feature, which will be re-enabled once a fix is deployed.

New World community manager Luxendra posted a brief message in the New World forums that alerted New World players to the fact that world transfers had been temporarily disabled due to the bug. "This only affects players that have an existing server transfer token," Luxendra wrote. "We will provide an update once we have re-enabled the feature."

Luxendra doesn't provide any specifics about the issue at fault, only that the world transfer feature somehow makes it worse. New World conducted a big server merge December 20-21, combining players on many of its less-played worlds. You can see the updated list of servers, with both the new live server and the servers that merged into them, in our handy dandy New World server merge guide.

New World Update 1.2.1

New World Update 1.2.1 downtime will begin at 11pm PT (7am UTC) on December 21.

Greetings Adventurers!

This week’s update is focused on resolving some of the issues that have arisen from our December Update. Our development team is continually working on improving the New World experience and they thank you all for your patience and reports that you continue to make on the official forums.
  • Restricted Coin Lockboxes earned from the Tree of Light to players level 14 and above to coincide with when Event Quests are enabled for players. This change was implemented to discourage bad actors from repeatedly creating new characters in an attempt to exploit the availability of coin.
  • Reduced the amount of characters that can be created per day per account.
  • Fixed an issue causing Azoth balances to not update after fast traveling or crafting. Azoth balances should now adjust to show the amount spent when traveling or crafting.
  • Fixed an issue that caused potions to drop at multiple gear scores resulting in inventory stacking issues.
  • To enable a level playing field for players, we reset the faction cooldown time for all players. Once players choose or change a faction the duration of the cooldown will be set to 60 days.
  • Fixed an issue that occasionally caused the “Weavers Needed” Town Project mission for the Winter Convergence to not be completed if attempting to craft in Everfall.

Thanks for your support! We'll see you in Aeternum.

New World update resets faction cooldown time for all players

Earlier this week, New World developer Amazon Games announced that it would be deploying a "one-time reset of the faction change cooldown for everyone" to help alleviate some faction imbalance and address hiccups with players "in a bad state with their faction reset timer" as part of a wider rollout of server merges. Now, the studio has set update 1.2.1 live, which brings this reset among a handful of other adjustments and fixes.

"To enable a level playing field for players, we reset the faction cooldown time for all players," the devs explain in the patch notes for today's update, which also clarify the duration of the cooldown timer when players have chosen or changed their faction going forward, which will "be set to 60 days". In their initial post earlier this week, the devs said that they're "hopeful the reset will allow sets with lower populations post-merge to use game modes such as war and PVP while we work toward a better solution for how to get them to a more populated world".

Elsewhere, the handful of changes introduced in today's update look to address issues that have cropped up following the MMORPG's hefty December update.

New World is getting a Wheel of Time event for Christmas

Despite being only out for a few months, New World is getting its first crossover event with Amazon's other major fantasy property - no, not Lord of the Rings, it's The Wheel of Time Amazon Prime series, which will let players get access to a number of outfits and items themed around the show.

New World is in the middle of its Winter Convergence Festival event right now, which runs through to January 11 and features seasonal quests, presents to recover and deliver, new resources to gather, and a new enemy called the Winter Warrior who is waging a war to create a "forever winter" - who will probably stick around even after the festival is up.

As part of the event, Amazon has confirmed a crossover between New World and The Wheel of Time fantasy universes - which will take the form of Twitch Drops that'll be available on December 23 to coincide with the series' final episode, and will run until the end of the festival on January 11.
