New World: Aeternum News

My New World character is going through an identity crisis

A war horn bellows across the land. My Marauder compatriots have been called to assemble at the gates of Ebonscale Reach to launch an offensive against the tyrannical Covenant. Fifty soldiers from each side will decide the fate of the region - but reports from my fellow Marauders are dire. Only a handful of our troops have signed up to fight, and the battle is fast approaching.

Ebonscale Reach is a level 51-60 zone in New World, Amazon Games' hit new MMO (which you can buy here). I am level 26, but I have a duty to my people. The war board waits in the city across the water; my friends and I are bravely wading across the bayou into deadly territory in order to sign up for the battle.

After hauling ourselves onto shore and making camp on the sand, a reanimated skeleton notices us from afar and takes aim. We're so low level that every enemy in the region wants a piece of us. Languorous crocodiles, lumbering along the waterside half a mile away catch our scent on the breeze and crack hungry grins before launching themselves towards us.

The best New World tank build - sword and shield setup

If you're looking for the best tank build in New World, then here's how to build the ideal loadout using a sword and shield. The sword is currently the only weapon in New World that can be used with a shield - although the sword is fairly weak compared to other hefty New World weapons, it can be used to build a highly defensive tanky loadout for both PvE and PvP.

It's important that you equip your sword with a carnelian gem - this provides a taunting perk for your weapon, used alongside the Shield Bash and Defiant Stance in the mastery defender tree. The build is made up of both defender and swordmaster abilities, and although the sword provides strength attributes, it's best to scale up in both dexterity and constitution to withstand damage.

These tank builds are used to defend and mitigate damage so other party members can deal damage, so they're best paired with DPS builds and a life staff healing build. Take note of the abilities that slow enemies, as the tank particularly excels in crowd control, and AoE damage can be used to maximise your efficiency. So here are the best New World tank builds using a sword and shield for both PvE and PvP.

How to get the best New World gear

Wondering how to get the best New World gear? There are a few ways to get your hands on new pieces of armour and New World weapons - you can pick them up as drops from enemies or in chests, purchase them from the marketplace or your New World faction shop, or craft them by hand.

You may be content just to upgrade your equipment as you go if you're close to the gear's equip level - the easiest way to get good gear is from the faction shop. However, if you're looking to get the most out of your character for New World PvP or high level content, you'll probably want to seek out even better gear.

If you're after the highest gear scores and the best perks and attributes for your build, you can either craft gear to your exact specifications, or hope that high level weapons drop from enemies. At level 60, the New World gear progression changes a little, and a 'watermark' system is introduced for high level gear. Here's everything you need to know about gear in New World.

New World character transfers are on hold while devs look into gold duping bug

Hot on the heels of an invincibility bug addressed in New World's latest patch, there's a new issue causing problems on the new MMORPG's servers. Since the rollout of the patch, which finally introduced New World's server transfer functionality, players have discovered a rather generous bug that allows certain characters to duplicate vast sums of gold - but Amazon says players who abuse the exploit may face bans.

A "small number" of players encountered an error called Character_Persist_Failure shortly after transferring a character to a new server once patch 1.0.3 had arrived. Players who experienced this found that if they then sent gold to another character who hadn't gotten that error, and then logged out, the gold transfer would only be saved for the character on the receiving end of the transaction - the player who'd sent the gold would log back in with the entire amount in their inventory.

Amazon Games says it's "corrected" the issue with characters being improperly saved, and has warned players that anyone found to have exploited the bug may face a ban, and the money or items obtained using it will be removed from the game. But the issue persisted for long enough that it may be difficult to determine where to draw the line.

New World patch fixes invincibility exploit

October 20, 2021 Amazon Games has issued a fix in New World's latest patch

Amazon Games has issued a fix for an easily-replicable exploit that has been giving New World players infinite invincibility, which proved particularly bothersome in PvP encounters. The developer confirmed the news in a set of update notes for patch 1.0.3, alongside a host of over fixes.

We won't provide the details here, but suffice to say that the exploit was easy to replicate, and essentially allowed you to remain invincible indefinitely. Players couldn't move while abusing the glitch, but it did allow them to stand forever on capture points, preventing Wars from ever progressing.

In a forum thread reporting the exploit, a New World community manager confirmed the team was aware and investigating. Elsewhere in the thread, the rep said "our top priority with any bugs or exploits that come up is to solve the problem as quickly as possible. If there are folks abusing a bug/exploit we will make sure they are handled by moderation".
