New World patch chops down the AFK timer

Amazon Games has given New World its first update, making it a wee bit trickier to go AFK to save your spot in one of the MMO's bustling game worlds. Alongside tweaked warning and disconnect timings, you'll find additional measures to combat "simulated mouse movement".

The developer has posted the complete set of patch notes to its website, delving further into the topic. Amazon has added additional AFK prevention to ensure that players can't fool the system by using simulated mouse movement. You'll also find that the AFK warning message pops up after 15 minutes now instead of 20 and that the AFK disconnect has been shortened to 20 minutes from 25.

In case you haven't heard, Amazon's new kid on the block is proving to be quite popular. At the time of writing, New World has peaked at 913,634 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. Naturally, though, that has caused server congestion, leading some players to use various methods to stay in the game so they don't have to rejoin the queue after they leave. That's not quite how Amazon Games wants New World to be played, though, so the developer swiftly addressed the issue.

New World fast travel locations - how to fast travel

If you're fed up with traipsing around the New World map on foot, especially as the new MMO game has eschewed mounts entirely, then you need all the New World fast travel locations to get around efficiently.

You can fast travel from any settlement in the region, but you need to pay up in Azoth in order to make the journey. The amount of Azoth that you'll have to fork over depends on the distance of your travel as well as your encumbrance level. The price can be reduced somewhat, with discounts for the faction that controls the region. If you're just beginning your journey in Aeternum, here's how to choose a faction in New World, as well as tips for getting started with our New World beginner's guide.

Fast travel is relatively simple; just travel to a settlement and open the map to select a settlement you want to travel to and click 'fast travel'. Another nifty, free way to fast travel is by checking into an inn - you can easily return to the inn by selecting it on the map and choosing 'recall to inn'. However, there is a cooldown on this ability, so don't get caught out. Now you know how to fast travel in New World, here are all the New World fast travel locations.

New World fiber: the best hemp location and how to get linen

Want to know how to get hemp in New World to get fiber and linen? Hemp is a valuable one to gather, and not just for increasing your gathering levels. Hemp can be woven into linen to level up your weaving skill, and the linen can then be used to make clothes and armour. This is a skill you'll use early on, so if you're new to the MMO game, why not check out our New World beginner's guide for some tips to get you started.

Gathering skills are an important part of the game, and you should start leveling them early -you can find out more about this in our New World leveling guide. While you could theoretically go harvest herbs and farm plants to increase your harvesting skill easily, hemp gives you a great amount of early harvesting level experience. You need to increase your harvesting skill significantly to be able to harvest some of the more unusual flora, so it's well worth investing in this skill as soon as possible.

While you could aimlessly wander around the world trying to find the best place to go and gather these tall violet plants, there is one farming location that yields a significant amount of this precious crop. This guide will show you the best New World hemp location.

New World's bots are hogging the best fishing spots

Where there's an MMO, there are usually bots. They're typically used to make busy work like mining or foraging a lot easier, though many find it pretty frustrating as it makes it harder for them to grind certain spots for items legitimately. New World is indeed an MMORPG, so, as the way of the world decrees, the bots have shown up, almost like a rite of passage.

Players have been taking to the game's subreddit over the past few days to query the odd behaviour of the adventurers they've been coming across in Aeternum (thanks, Icy Veins). Some posts show fishing spots packed with adventurers cycling through their set animations, whereas others reveal some mining for rocks that haven't even spawned yet. Yup, it certainly looks like there are oodles of bots in New World right now.

At the time of writing, most of the bots are busy doing your typical busy work like fishing and mining rocks. You'll notice a few giveaways like the simple names of the characters like "iron1", "iron2", and "iron3", or the fact you can nudge them about without much reaction as their programming evidently doesn't really account for it.

Jeff Bezos on New World: "After many failures and setbacks in gaming we have a success"

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has praised the success of its recently released MMO New World, which is getting a lot of praise despite players having some major launch issues with the game. However, Bezos has harsh words for previous Amazon games such as Crucible - labelling them "failures and setbacks".

Amazon Game Studios' first MMO New World released earlier this week and has been an immediate success, breaking player count records all over the place but suffering as a result - players are still facing long queueing times, but fortunately Amazon promises to sort those out soon by adding extra servers. It's the complete opposite to Amazon's previous game Crucible, which was shut down for having too few players not long after launch.

Entrepreneur and Amazon chief Jeff Bezos took to Twitter to praise the team at Amazon Game Studios and New World's release, saying "after many failures and setbacks in gaming we have a success" and "so proud of the team for the persistence."
