New World housing - storage, furniture, and how to buy a house

New World housing is a multifaceted system that lets you leave your mark on Aeturnum's settlements, but there's more to housing than just building your dream pad. Housing provides fast travel benefits and a place for your pets to call home, and it also gives you extra storage once you reach the right crafting levels.

You'll need to work on raising Territory Standing before the first housing level unlocks, and it might be worth switching New World factions if you're perpetually short on cash. Factions determine how much you pay in taxes, and bigger factions usually have lower tax rates in their territories.

Unlike in real life, there's no potential to play the real estate market and invest in properties in this new MMO, or not yet at least. If you don't want your house anymore, your only choice is to abandon it. Think carefully about where you want to live before spending your hard-earned cash. Our housing guide covers how to buy a house, what benefits each tier offers, and how to get extra storage.

The best New World rivercress and petal cap locations

If you're looking for rivercress in New World, then luckily this magical plant is fairly easy to locate - the clue is in the name. That's right, rivercress can be found near rivers and waterfalls; they are a pale, luminescent blue plant, with a floating, bubble-like body.

If you're currently on the Weakness of the Ego quest, you need to collect rivercress stems - rivercress can be farmed for stems, leaves, flowers, and water motes. To harvest rivercress you need to be harvesting skill level 30 or higher and have a sickle equipped.

For the same quest, you also need to find petal cap locations in New World - these can be found by harvesting (at any level) fronded petalcaps, which look like a cluster of unripe bananas with a glowing sprig sticking out the middle. Petal caps can also be used to craft potions, corruption tinctures, and dyes. Here's where to find both rivercress and petal caps in New World for the Weakness of the Ego quest.

New World petrified wood - how to increase logging luck

Looking for petrified wood in New World? Petrified wood is an extremely rare resource, but can be used to fashion the best New World weapons. Similar to fae iron in New World, finding petrified wood is largely down to luck, but there are a few things you can do to increase your chances.

Petrified wood is described as "wood so old it takes on the properties of stone" and is a tier two wood type. It's worth noting that a lot of New World players are struggling to find this rare material, but you can increase your logging skill and logging luck to give yourself a better chance. You can level up in logging like any gathering skill, by using the skill as much as possible, but putting points into the constitution attribute also helps speed up the process by increasing wood chopping speed and the logging yield.

Here's how to find this elusive resource, as well as how to increase your logging luck by using items and charms in the crafting process, including food recipes to temporarily boost your chances while logging.

Amazon responds to New World breaking Nvidia RTX 3090s and other GPUs

Amazon responds to New World breaking Nvidia RTX 3090s and other GPUs

06/10/21 Amazon have provided a statement which we have provided at the end of this article.

It seems like everyone is either currently playing New World or are stuck in long server queues to play Amazon Games' new MMO, with it now being the fifth-biggest Steam game of all time by concurrent player count. However, troubling new reports are emerging on the game's subreddit of it bricking players' GPUs despite the developer previously insisting that it is "safe to play" following similar reports that surfaced during the game's beta.

Previously, these issues seemed predominantly limited to Nvidia's best graphics card, the RTX 3090, with a large portion of the blame directed towards soldering issues on EVGA branded cards. However, there are now multiple accounts of the game killing not only RTX 3090s, but also RTX 3080 Tis, RTX 3080s, RTX 3060 Tis, and even RTX 3000 laptop GPUs. Both EVGA and Gigabyte components have, again, been highlighted as particularly vulnerable to being fried.

Amazon Games previously took steps to try and mitigate the issue during the beta through an fps limiter in the game's menu. These new reports, however, suggest the problem is far from resolved, and we've reached out to Amazon Games for further comment.

New World patch chops down the AFK timer

Amazon Games has given New World its first update, making it a wee bit trickier to go AFK to save your spot in one of the MMO's bustling game worlds. Alongside tweaked warning and disconnect timings, you'll find additional measures to combat "simulated mouse movement".

The developer has posted the complete set of patch notes to its website, delving further into the topic. Amazon has added additional AFK prevention to ensure that players can't fool the system by using simulated mouse movement. You'll also find that the AFK warning message pops up after 15 minutes now instead of 20 and that the AFK disconnect has been shortened to 20 minutes from 25.

In case you haven't heard, Amazon's new kid on the block is proving to be quite popular. At the time of writing, New World has peaked at 913,634 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB. Naturally, though, that has caused server congestion, leading some players to use various methods to stay in the game so they don't have to rejoin the queue after they leave. That's not quite how Amazon Games wants New World to be played, though, so the developer swiftly addressed the issue.
