Golden Treasure: The Great Green News

After many months of work, our wonderful team of translators has completed their monumental task. Golden Treasure: The Great Green, a game about life from a dragon's perspective, is now available in simplified Chinese.

Those who are new to the game will be prompted to choose a language at the beginning, while current players can switch between English, Spanish, and simplified Chinese at any time in the Settings menu.

We would like to recognize the heroic efforts of Ari, Rednut, Scalescarver, Leo, and everyone else who contributed to this effort to bring Golden Treasure to more people than ever before. Because of the poetic nature of the game, we did not even consider using a machine translation. Preserving the poetic and artistic spirit of the work would be too great a task for any AI, and a very daunting one even for a talented team of real people, but our translators and editors were up to the challenge.

A few bugs have also been fixed in the main game, leaving it cleaner than ever.

Dreaming Door Studios is pleased to announce that the Chinese-language demo for Golden Treasure: The Great Green, a game about life as a dragon in the wild, has been released! The demo can be downloaded for free here on Steam, and once installed may be played in Spanish, English, or Chinese. The demo contains hours of gameplay and is a perfect introduction to life as a mighty Draak-Kin.

The full Chinese-language version is scheduled for release later this summer. An exclusive branch containing more of the game in Chinese will be made available to influencers; feel free to contact Dreaming Door for inquiries regarding it.

Additionally, Golden Treasure: The Great Green is now 50% off in the Steam summer sale! It's our biggest sale of the year, so feel free to take advantage of it and spend less shiny things.

In other news, development on Hierophant, the first sequel to Golden Treasure: The Great Green, continues apace! The Dreaming Door Patreon recently hosted an epic fan-created alien species contest, and four fan designs were chosen to be represented in the game! We thank our wonderful Patrons for their support of all kinds, especially creative. We could not exist without you! Any kindly Kin looking to help us continue production on the sequel (and in seeing lots of cool new artwork) are encouraged to investigate.

Huge thanks go out to our tireless Spanish translator and everyone who helped test the Spanish version of the game. Language can be switched at any time via the Settings menu. But we're not stopping there! Many people from around the world have voiced their desire to share Golden Treasure with their friends in other languages. Our Chinese localization is making excellent progress, and we hope to have it ready by summer.

Over 10,000 people have now enjoyed Golden Treasure: The Great Green, our first story about coming of age as a dragon on ancient Earth. Though it released to little fanfare, its impact has been deep, and we have been honored to hear from people all over the world about how the game has changed their perceptions of the great and beautiful Onesong in which we all Dance.

Since we released the free Time of Creation expansion in 2021, the studio has been resoundingly quiet, largely due to economic realities; touching hearts does not always equal making money. But Dreaming Door Studios was not made to tell just one tale, and The Great Green was never intended to be a lone ship at sea, but instead a harbor. It was a starting point from which even more new and wonderful stories can be told, art can be crafted and shared, and the story of the Draak-Kin People, spanning Time and Space without boundary, can be continued. To that end…



The next chapter in the Golden Treasure saga will be like the last, but also very different. A young dragon awakens on a fascinating world far from Earth and Sun. Forced at birth into the powerful role of Hierophant, ruler and guide of an entire sentient species, they will very quickly learn that power is both a fang and a chain. With massive resources and thousands of lives at their disposal, the infant Draak-Kin begins to explore a world even more vast and varied than Old Earth, but this time, not at all alone. A grand symphony of discovery, intrigue, diplomacy, conflict and transformation begins. The dragons of Earth will take on new forms, and face a threat far more dangerous than the one that drove them to the stars.

Like the Great Green, Hierophant will combine thoughtful writing, creative ideas, beautiful handmade art and outside-the-box philosophy to create something we believe will be original and wonderful. The world of Newhome is unlike any fantasy or science fiction world yet, with unique ecosystems, radically unusual species (no humans or even human-like beings exist on Newhome), new physical laws, and more. However…

We shall not build it alone! After having witnessed the beautiful creative abilities of many Golden Treasure players through the art and stories they have created, we’d like to make this journey together! In 2019, we announced that we were working on the “Infinite Green” project, a way of allowing Golden Treasure players to customize their Great Green experience, add to it, or even write whole new stories using the game engine. Though it took three and a half years and a tremendous amount of work, we are at least ready to release the Story Creator to the general public. Alter text and data within the game, add new events to any one of the three main maps, use and manage user-created mods, or even write your own saga with the easy-to-use tools that make crafting choice-based interactive fiction a (relative) breeze. There is much more to share. Quite a few things have been patched. A new profile system has been introduced, so you can have more than one playthrough file and others can play on your system without messing up your data. We are hard at work on Spanish and Chinese versions of GT1 (let us know if you’re a native speaker of a particular language and would like to help translate!) so that more people can enjoy the feeling of the high cold wind on their feathers at first flight. Much has already been done in preparation for Dreaming Door’s reemergence from slumber. We hope that you will join us in the continuing Dream.

Spring is here, and with it, the sacred Time of Creation. It’s an exciting endeavor for all goodbeasts, and the Draak-Kin are no exception!

After many, many months of writing, painting, tweaking and bug-smashing, the Time of Creation content is now ready to be released. This special addition to Golden Treasure: The Great Green adds seven unique events dealing with the creation of the next generation of the Draak.

We had originally planned to release this as paid downloadable content, but the price we finally settled on was zero dollars. That’s right… the Time of Creation will be a free update! Version 1.5 of the game will also feature a host of bug fixes. Many thanks go out to the Golden Treasure community for its invaluable help in testing and fixing the new version of the game.

With this, we consider the story of the Spiritkeeper complete. We will continue to keep an eye out for bugs, but there are no more major content additions planned.

[h3]How exactly does the new content work, and how can I access it?[/h3]

Approximately halfway through Part 3, the player will receive a special message event telling them that the Time of Creation, as the denizens of the Great Green call it, has begun. At that point, new sigils will begin to appear on the map concerning this. Prospective partners and events will appear based on certain conditions, though there are a few which must be sought out.

[h3]How many eligible Draak-Kin are featured in the expansion?[/h3]

Five Draak, some familiar and some new, are featured in the Time of Creation as potential partners. While it is possible to romance more than one, your reputation will suffer if you are too enterprising, so choose wisely. The future of the Draak-Kin depends on it!

[h3]What is the new content rated? Is it safe for work, kids, etc.?[/h3]

Though the new events do deal with finding a partner in the act of Creation, this is a process as spiritual as it is physical. Dreaming Door is a place of poetry, not pornography, and neither words nor images will go beyond a PG-13 rating.

[h3]What’s the status of the mod tools?[/h3]

Work on the Story Creator has been on hiatus for quite some time now, but we’re not giving up on it just yet! Watch this space over the next few months for further updates on bringing your own stories and art to the Great Green.
