Update 0.9.24

Update 0.9.24 is out. It's a relatively small patch that addresses the most immediate concerns of the community, so that you can enjoy the game without any issues while we work on larger stuff.

QUALITY OF LIFE:
  • Displaying HP as numbers have been added to game's options.
  • Health bar colors were adjusted to make the Max HP mechanic clearer.
  • Food tutorials have been rewritten to sound less threatening to new players.
  • Additional strategy advice scenes have been added for a few common situations.

GAMEPLAY:
  • Recruited heroes now start with one rune slot already unlocked.
  • Chance for runes appearing as rewards in skull-type quests have been increased by 66%.
  • Enemy sets have been adjusted for more variety in the early game.

BALANCE:
  • Zivko's Blast damage has been reduced from 100%-700% to 100-600%
  • However, his Charge Up's turn quicken effect has been increased from 50% to 60%. This aims to make Zivko a bit less one sided and encourage Boost use.
  • Zhu's Focus Fire now also has a turn quicken effect of 100%, so that she can take advantage of it sooner.
  • Focus Fire also received a new visual effect, because nothing buffs a skill more than making it look awesome.
  • Ephrem's Sanctuary now lasts 3 turns instead of 2. This should promote a more aggressive playstyle with less turns spent on keeping him protected.
  • Wolves Howl now reduces buff duration by 2 instead of 1.

BUGS:
  • Fixed several bugs around heroes departing and re-joining the party.
  • Plus some more bug fixes too small and numerous to list.

We hope you like the changes. If you have any more issues, would like to check our current development roadmap or suggest the direction of future updates, feel feel to drop by our community forums.

We're live!

Bonfire is finally out!

It's hard to put how excited we are about this into words. The game went through so many iterations since its initial alpha launch, evolving from a cool turn-based combat prototype into a full-on tactical RPG, while also becoming strangely personal along the way. We're really proud of how it turned out, and we hope you're going to love it too!

Owners of any of the previous versions get their Steam key for free, of course, so check your inboxes! If you didn't get one, just email me at [email protected].

Have fun, everyone! And if you've got any feedback or questions, feel free to hit our community forums. You can also read more about our approach to Early Access here.

Bonfire launches on March 26!

I mean, what more there is to say? After nearly EIGHT years of development, we finally have a release date. Yup, you can now take out your imaginary calendar and mark March 26th as gloomy tactics time!

In the meantime, make sure to add the game to your wishlist to get notified of the launch and help us a bit with visibility. You can also read about our approach to Early Access (tl;dr: it's going to feel like a full game) or even check the already available lengthy free demo!

Cheers,
Tom

Free demo of Bonfire available!

Bonfire demo is out now and you can check it out for free!

This is the first public build of Bonfire in years and it makes us both nervous and excited to finally be able to show you what we've been working on all that time!

We're interested in your feedback, so the demo is pretty sizeable and contains a significant chunk of the early parts of the game (around 10% of all the present content) without limiting any features. Save files are also going to be compatible with the release version, so you'll be able to pick up where you left off once it launches.

Hope you guys like it! And please feel free to drop by our community forums if you've got any thoughts to share!

Free demo of Bonfire launches on Jan 28th!

As I wrote in an earlier post, we believe that even an Early Access version of a game should work as a standalone and polished product.

You'll get a chance to check us on this soon, as we're launching a free demo of Bonfire on Jan 28th here on Steam.

It's going to contain a pretty sizeable portion of the early parts of the game without any cuts. Save files are also going to be compatible with the full version, so it'sa nice entry point if you'd like to try the game now and then seamlessly continue your progress after it's out.

We're quite nervous, as this is the first public release of Bonfire in years, and SO much work went into making it happen! Hope you guys are going to like it! Cheers!
