Quality of Life Update
Firstly, thanks to all of you for playing! The response so far has been overwhelming, and we'd like to thank everybody in the community for participating - be it sharing the game, streaming, being active in the discord or forums, or even taking the time to write a guide to help other players!
This first update addresses some of the biggest QoL issues and frustrations found in the game, including:
Since launch, there have been over 75 changes and fixes! If you want to view the full release notes, including some card adjustments, you can view them here:
Where do we go from here?
This update was designed to alleviate some of the most common issues and frustrations users encountered whilst playing the game. From here on out, we'll be focusing our attention on adding new content, including new cards, enemies, events and gameplay features. Throughout this period we'll also be constantly adjusting and tuning the game to help balance. We'll be sharing a roadmap soon for an overview of the timeline for these features, so stay tuned!
Beta Branch
Adding new content involves several steps, and a lot of testing. Because of this, we'll be using steam's Beta branches to roll out new features on a regular basis until we hit milestones. If you want to see all the new content as soon as it becomes available, and don't mind some bugs / teething issues, this next section's for you!
Starting in a little over a week, two Beta branches will become available:
This cycle will run for a few weeks until we hit a milestone, at which point the new content will go live on the default branch for everybody, as a stable release.
The beta branches will only be fully supported in English, so that localisation passes can be done with each milestone release. If the beta sounds up your street - you can already opt into it! That way you'll be up to date as soon as a build goes live.
To opt into the beta, right-click Banners of Ruin in your Steam library, select Properties, then the BETAs tab, and choose the beta branch from the dropdown.
Feedback / Bugs
With each update, we encourage you to discuss new features alongside your fellow players, either here on the steam forums, or in our discord: https://discord.gg/HXdVQHb. The discord has dedicated channels for submitting feedback and bugs, as well as a very helpful and active community. If you're a Supporter, there's also a private channel you can check out to find out how to access the private Supporter beta.
Once again, thank you!
We're incredibly excited to take Banners of Ruin forward and expand it into our full vision for the game. We've got plenty in store to add over the coming weeks, and we hope you'll enjoy playing it!
This first update addresses some of the biggest QoL issues and frustrations found in the game, including:
- Card cancelling! Cards which target characters can now be cancelled with Right Click when in the targeting state. Cards which don't require targets (e.g. Guard) have a confirmation state, where they can be cancelled until you click them, but if you prefer the speed of single clicks, you can turn this off in Settings, under Gameplay/Card Confirmation.
- Speed options! Many of you reported that once you were comfortable with how the game worked, you found certain interactions took a while to resolve (looking at you, Clippers!). We heard you, and there are now 5 speed modes from Very Slow to Very Fast. These change the speed of combat, but playing on Fast or Very Fast will also make some campaign-screen animations faster too.
- Your deck and party are now always accessible during scenarios and level ups, meaning you can review your setup at any time.
- Character screen controls (cycling characters / Exit) are now usable with the mouse only!
- Passives now indicate if they are exclusive to a race. These were always here, but now it's obvious! (These will be expanded throughout Early Access).
- Steam Achievements should now unlock for everybody.

Starting in a little over a week, two Beta branches will become available:
- The first will be a private beta branch for all of our Supporters. Whenever we finish an initial pass on content, a bleeding-edge build will be uploaded to this branch for people to get a sneak preview of what's coming next, and help us test it out.
- Around a week after this, that content will go live on a public beta branch, where everybody can opt into it.
