As part of the explosion in interesting and advanced Baldur's Gate 3 modding projects that have popped up since Larian unleashed the official toolkit, one modder's busy swapping out the game's turn-based fights for real-time ones. After originally being shared in pretty basic form, their work now features both a working pause button and the ability to get your party involved in these frenetic skirmishes.

Not long after Larian released its official modding toolkit for Baldur's Gate 3, it took next to no time for modders to find out how to unlock extra functions that've helped get the ball rolling on the likes of custom maps and possibly full custom campaigns further down the line. Using a modified version of those official tools, one modder's now put together what looks to be one of the game's first fully-custom quests.

I'm now on my third playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, and slowly but surely my dream of actually making it to the titular city feels like it's achievable. While my first playthrough stalled because I missed a slew of key story beats by not wandering off the beaten track, my second attempt at the game was cut short by my intense frustration over that one, huge fight in Grymforge - I got yeeted into that lava one time too many. I've always found the RPG's combat a little infuriating, but this new Baldur's Gate 3 mod completely overhauls it and, honestly, I can't wait.
