Baldurs Gate 3 devs tease future non-D&D games, say morale is “super high”: “we're doing our own thing again"

Flippin’ heck, what a journey it’s been for Baldur's Gate 3, eh? It seems just yesterday I was getting very jealous at Matthew Castle (RPS in peace) for getting to preview the sequel to my beloved Shadows Of Amn. Fast forward several turns, Larian’s RPG banger is officially one year old since release, and there’s now a much higher chance that strangers at pubs will understand why my failed romance with Jaheira as a youth was such a deeply heartbreaking experience. Baldur’s Gate 3 itself looks to be done and dusted following the upcoming patch, but Larian now seem to be gearing up for their next charm offensive with a new “community focused” YouTube channel, as well as further teasing their two games currently in development.

Главный сценарист Larian: Трудно придумать новую игру, самые смелые идеи мы реализовали в Baldur's Gate 3

После релиза Baldur's Gate 3 студия Larian столкнулась с определенными проблемами. Об этом рассказал ведущий сценарист команды Адам Смит.

As Larian gears up for its next big release, it's faced with one slight problem: it keeps coming up with ideas it already did in Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios is hard at work on its next title, but the hit RPG is getting in the way of fresh ideas.

If you can believe it, it's already been a year since Baldur's Gate 3 came out of early access. I know, I know, the passage of time is a daily existential crisis, but let's put that to the side for the minute. Larian is still doing some work on the beloved RPG, with sign-ups for its upcoming seventh patch closed beta having gone live last month. That patch is due out in September, but of course, the studio is also working on a couple of new "very ambitious RPGs" with a Larian lead summit taking place early last month too. Except, as it turns out, coming up with new ideas is hard, especially when you put so many good ones in your previous game.

To commemorate the game's first anniversary, PC Gamer interviewed writing director Adam Smith about the game, and how coming up with ideas for the studios' next game is proving to be difficult. "One of the biggest problems we have now is that whenever we're talking about things, we say we did that in BG3," Smith said. "And it turns out, we did a lot of things in BG3 when we think back to it." This isn't actually a new problem for Larian, as apparently it also faced a similar issue with Baldur's Gate 3 and looking back to the Divinity: Original Sin games.

Baldur's Gate 3 was so big that Larian has developed a 'Simpsons did it' problem: 'Whenever we're talking about things, we say we did that in BG3'

Larian is following up Baldur's Gate 3 with not one but two new RPGs. And, unsurprisingly, they'll likely be big 'uns. That's just Larian's style, but it does come with some problems, especially when they're following a game as massive and elaborate as Baldur's Gate 3...
