Baldur's Gate 3 director Swen Vincke says that all the awards actually started to obstruct development: 'It is surprisingly draining on the soul'

Baldur's Gate 3 swept pretty much all the game award shows of 2023 and even managed to carry its success over into 2024 after claiming best game along with four other categories at the 2024 BAFTA Awards. But apparently, winning almost every accolade imaginable isn't what it's cut out to be...

Forget Astarion, Fallout: London claims to have nabbed one of the UK's most memeable political figures to voice a robot that yells "Order!"

This is not a drill. UK political memes look set to inflitrate the Fallout universe via Fallout 4 mod Fallout: London. Having already confirmed some pretty huge names voice acting-wise, the mod's Project Lead now looks to be suggesting a former MP known for yelling things is also on that list.

Back in February, we learned that the mod's cast includes Neil Newbon - the voice of Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion - and A Plague Tale: Requiem’s Anna Demetriou, with their names slotting in alongside the likes of the already announced Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker. Yes, that's the sixth and seventh doctors from Doctor Who.

Now, over on the mod's Discord server, project lead Dean 'Prilladog' Carter looks to have revealed perhaps the weirdest addition to a mod's cast in the history of, well, modding via a "Little Amusing Update".

"Пробить стеклянный потолок": Larian Studios хотела сделать игру по лицензии Fallout или Ultima

В индустрии видеоигр существовало три лицензии, которые могли бы послужить основной для новой игры от Larian. Об этом рассказал глава бельгийской студии Свен Винке в интервью журналу Edge.

Larian explains how that particular Baldur's Gate 3 scene involving quite a raunchy bear came to be

Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian has shared the origins of that viral bear sex scene that helped put the already popular RPG on everyone's radar.

I'll admit, while I had been aware of Baldur's Gate 3 for a good while, for the most part I wasn't all that interested in it. Then, all of a sudden, I see people talking about this game where you can have sex with one of the game's characters while they're transformed into a bear. That particular moment really helped propel Baldur's Gate 3 to its monumental success (though I imagine it still would have done well without it), and really showed how wild and weird things can get. Now, while at Brighton's Develop conference earlier this week speaking to Eurogamer, former Larian writer Baudelaire Welch has shared just how that scene came to be, and how it wasn't originally going to be that big of a thing.

When Welch joined Larian in 2020, partway through development, a lot of work had already been done, including for companion romances, but certain characters like Halsin weren't romanceable just yet. "I don't think there were specific plans for him to be a love interest," Welch explained. At the time, the community surrounding the game evidently wanted "daddy Halsin," which Welch knew because they were included in that community. Larian took note of that, and decided to explore what that looked like.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke says there were only two other RPG series he was interested in working on if he couldn't get Baldur's Gate: Fallout and Ultima

It's hard to overstate how big Baldur's Gate 3 is. It's a massive sales hit, it claimed all the awards, and it turned Larian, already a well-respected studio thanks to its outstanding Divinity: Original Sin games, into RPG royalty. I think it's fair to say that nobody could have predicted this, but in the latest issue of Edge (via GamesRadar), Larian CEO Swen Vincke said he had big ambitions for the studio, and that there were only three games he felt could make it happen...
